  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Falls to Minnesota

Mahle (6-4) took the loss Thursday against the Twins, allowing one run on five hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out four. While Byron Buxton's leadoff homer in the first inning proved to be the lone blemish against Mahle, the Rangers failed to provide any support offensively in an eventual 4-0 defeat. Regardless, it was an encouraging showing from Mahle in what will likely be his final outing of the season. In two starts following a three-month absence due to a shoulder strain, the right-hander allowed just one run on nine hits while striking out 11 over 9.2 innings. Across 16 starts (86.2 innings) this year, Mahle posted an impressive 2.18 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 66:29 K:BB.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Fans six in return

Mahle pitched 4.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and took a no-decision in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Marlins. He allowed four hits and one walk. The Texas right-hander returned from a shoulder injury that had kept him out since mid-June. Mahle showed up with his swing-and-miss stuff, as he generated an impressive 12 whiffs out of his 68 total pitches to notch six or more Ks for the third time this season. Overall, the free-agent-to-be has produced a 2.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 62:28 K:BB in 81.2 innings across 15 appearances. Mahle currently projects to make his next start against one of his former clubs, the Twins, at home next week.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Activated ahead of start

The Rangers reinstated Mahle (shoulder) from the injured list ahead of his start against Miami on Friday. A shoulder strain has kept Mahle off a big-league mound since mid-June, though he's made three rehab appearances in the minors this month, coughing up five earned runs with a 10:2 K:BB across 7.1 innings. He threw just 52 pitches during his most recent appearance, so the Rangers may aim to limit his workload Friday against a Marlins offense that's posted a .712 OPS since Sept. 1. Carl Edwards was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Drawing start Friday

Mahle (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Marlins in Arlington, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Mahle will be making his first appearance in the majors since early June, as the right-hander has been shelved for more than three months due to a right shoulder strain. He made three rehab starts, going four shutout innings with six strikeouts in his most recent outing with Triple-A Round Rock last Friday. Mahle threw only 52 pitches in that start, so he will have a limited workload Friday.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Excels in Friday's rehab start

Mahle (shoulder) struck out six and allowed one hit and no walks over four shutout innings in his rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. The Rangers had contemplated bringing Mahle back from the 60-day injured list for this weekend's series with the Mets, but he instead remained on assignment with Round Rock to continue getting stretched out as he works his way back from the right shoulder strain that has kept him on the shelf since June 15. The veteran right-hander looked about as sharp as the Rangers could have hoped during his third rehab start Friday, showing improved stuff and command from his prior two outings while firing 31 of his 52 pitches for strikes and generating seven whiffs. He'll likely return from the IL for the Rangers' home series versus the Marlins next weekend, but because he's not yet ready to handle a typical starter's workload, Mahle could temporarily work as a bulk reliever, or perhaps get deployed in a piggyback arrangement with current No. 5 starter Jacob Latz.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Could be activated this weekend

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that Mahle (shoulder) could return from the 60-day injured list this weekend to make a start against the Mets, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Out since mid-June with a right shoulder strain, Mahle was roughed up in his first rehab outing but was better his last time out, striking out three over 2.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. He is not fully stretched out after throwing just 47 pitches Sunday, but the Rangers may consider using him in tandem with Jacob Latz, who recently moved from the bullpen to the rotation. Mahle managed a 2.34 ERA over 14 starts covering 77 innings before getting hurt, but a pedestrian 56:27 K:BB suggested that he benefited from some batted-ball luck.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Sharper in second rehab start

Mahle (shoulder) struck out three batters and allowed two hits and one walk over 2.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Round Rock. After recording just three outs and getting rocked for five earned runs in his first rehab outing with Round Rock on Tuesday, Mahle returned to the hill five days later and fared much better. He pumped in 33 of his 47 pitches for strikes in the efficient performance, though his average fastball velocity of 90.2 miles per hour was about two ticks behind his season-long average prior to landing on the shelf June 15 due to right shoulder fatigue. Though Mahle isn't yet built up enough to handle a traditional starting role, the Rangers could have him return from the 60-day injured list later this week to work as a multi-inning reliever or to be used in tandem with Jacob Latz, who recently transitioned to the rotation after spending most of the season pitching in the bullpen.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Done after three outs

Mahle (shoulder) allowed five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one over one-plus innings for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. Mahle reached his pitch count before getting anyone out in the second inning after throwing 36 pitches (23 strikes) in an outing that was planned to go two full innings. He retired the first two batters faced before allowing three consecutive hits and two runs in the first inning. The right-hander came back out for the second inning and gave up a three-run home run. The Rangers had hoped Mahle could rejoin the pitching staff after one rehab outing, per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, who noted Mahle's velocity across all pitches was down about one mph for the night compared to his season averages. The team's decision-makers may want to reconsider the pitcher's next step.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Throwing off mound again

Mahle (shoulder) recently resumed throwing off a mound and could advance to throwing live batting practice in the near future, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Grant noted that Mahle hasn't been cleared to throw breaking pitches during his bullpen sessions, so he'll need to make use of his full arsenal before he eventually advances to facing live hitters and then heads out on a rehab assignment. Mahle had turned in a 2.56 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 77 innings over his 14 starts prior to landing on the injured list June 15 due to right shoulder fatigue. He still has a realistic chance at returning before the end of the season, but he may not have sufficient time to get fully stretched out for a starting role and could wind up pitching out of the bullpen.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Set to resume throwing

Mahle (shoulder) will resume throwing in one week, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Mahle has already been ruled out past the trade deadline, and his absence could extend into mid-August, depending how quickly he ramps up. He's been sidelined since mid-June, so he'll almost certainly need multiple rehab starts after progressing through bullpen and live batting practice sessions.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Shifts to 60-day IL

Mahle (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. The veteran right-hander has already been ruled out through the July 31 trade deadline due to a rotator cuff strain, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his return timeline much. Mahle will be eligible to be reinstated in mid-August, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to return at that point, especially since he's still in the midst of a rest period.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Out past trade deadline

Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that Mahle has been diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain and will not return until after the July 31 trade deadline, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. The Rangers are hopeful that the shoulder injury won't be a long-term concern, but Mahle has been prescribed some extended rest before he begins ramping back up once he's cleared to start a throwing progression. Mahle has already been sidelined for the past two weeks and is set to miss several more weeks of action before returning from the 15-day injured list.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Likely destined for injured list

Mahle won't make his scheduled start Sunday against the White Sox and will likely be placed on the injured list, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Mahle dealt with some shoulder soreness in his most recent start Tuesday, though nothing was reported until Saturday. His move to the injured list is not yet official, but Kumar Rocker will start in Mahle's place Sunday.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Shoulder sore ahead of scheduled start

Mahle is dealing with a sore right shoulder ahead of his scheduled start against the White Sox on Sunday, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Mahle felt some soreness in his shoulder during his most recent start Tuesday against Minnesota, during which the right-hander gave up four runs over 5.2 innings. It's not yet clear if Mahle will miss Sunday's start versus Chicago due to the issue, but Kumar Rocker is with the Rangers in Texas and could be called upon if Mahle is unable to take the mound.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Comes away with sixth win

Mahle (6-3) earned the win Tuesday against Minnesota after giving up four runs on 10 hits and one walk in 5.2 innings. He struck out three. Mahle was knocked around for a season-high 10 hits, and he's now surrendered four runs in consecutive starts. The 30-year-old right-hander served up just two home runs in his first 12 outings, but he's been tagged for two long balls over his past two appearances. Mahle still owns a strong 2.34 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 56:27 K:BB through 77 innings in 2025, and he'll try to keep the ball in the yard in his next scheduled start versus the lowly White Sox.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Allows one run in fifth win

Mahle (5-1) earned the win Saturday against the Astros, giving up one run on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out three. Mahle surrendered a run on two hits during the opening inning but blanked Houston for the following five frames for his sixth quality start of the campaign. The right-hander has yet to allow more than two runs in any of his 10 starts and has been one of the best starters in baseball early in 2025 with a 1.47 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 40:18 K:BB over 55 innings.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Breezes to fourth win

Mahle (4-1) earned the win Monday versus Colorado, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 6.1 innings with five strikeouts. The Texas right-hander was never in trouble during this 88-pitch outing against the feeble Rockies. The Colorado lineup managed only one extra-base hit off Mahle, a Hunter Goodman double in the seventh inning, as the Rangers starter tired. Mahle's brilliant run continues, as he now owns a 1.47 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB across 49 innings. He currently lines up to make his next start against the Astros at home this weekend.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Gives up two runs in no-decision

Mahle allowed two runs on four hits and one walk over five innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Wednesday. He did not record a strikeout. Mahle allowed just one hit over the first three innings, but he was tagged for two runs in the fourth frame after yielding solo homers to Alex Bregman and Wilyer Abreu. Mahle generated only four whiffs on 88 pitches (57 strikes) and failed to log a punchout for the first time this season. Still, the 30-year-old right-hander hasn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his eight starts this season, and his 1.48 ERA and 0.98 WHIP rank fourth and 14th, respectively, among qualified starters in the American League. Mahle is lined up to face the Rockies at home next week.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Takes loss despite quality start

Mahle (3-1) came away with the loss against the Athletics on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings. Mahle gave up an RBI single to Miguel Andujar in the first inning, but the former stranded baserunners on the corners to limit the damage to one run. Mahle retired 12 straight batters over the next five scoreless frames, but he was still tagged with the loss as the Rangers' bats fell silent against Jeffrey Springs and the A's bullpen. Mahle has four quality starts over his last five outings, and his 1.19 ERA over 37.2 innings is tied with Max Fried for second best in the majors behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1.06) among qualified starters. Mahle is lined up to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park next week.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Another stellar outing Sunday

Mahle threw seven scoreless innings in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Dodgers, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four. Mahle continued his sensational start to the year with his third scoreless outing of at least five innings. He ended his dominant performance with a strikeout of Miguel Rojas to strand a runner at second. Mahle's been one of the early surprises in baseball after being limited to just eight starts over the last two seasons due to injury. He leads with majors with a 0.68 ERA through five starts and will take the mound again on the road versus the Giants next weekend.
