O'Hearn was activated from the injured list Sunday after missing almost exactly two weeks with an oblique injury. He homered in his first plate appearance, tallying his eighth long ball of the season. O'Hearn batted cleanup in his return and should continue to occupy a key spot in the Pirates' lineup.

Pirates' Ryan O'Hearn: Activated from injured list
The Pirates reinstated O'Hearn (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
O'Hearn has been on the shelf the past couple weeks due to a quad strain but is ready to rejoin Pittsburgh's active roster without the need of a minor-league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old had a strong start to the campaign prior to the injury with seven homers, 29 RBI, 27 runs and an .827 OPS through 44 contests. Konnor Griffin (forearm) was moved to the IL in a corresponding move.

O'Hearn (quad) is expected to return from the injured list Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
O'Hearn has been sidelined since May 17 with a strained right quad and wasn't cleared to resume baseball activity until Monday, but a quick recovery will allow him to return to the active roster before the end of the month. O'Hearn (quadriceps) worked out in the outfield ahead of Monday's game against the Cubs, MLB.com reports.
O'Hearn did agility and cone drills in the outfield, marking his first activity since being placed on the injured list May 17. He remains on track for a mid-June return.

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that O'Hearn's right quadriceps strain is considered "moderate" and will likely keep him on the injured list for around four weeks, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

The Pirates placed O'Hearn on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a right quadriceps strain.
O'Hearn exited Saturday's contest due to right quadriceps discomfort and will now be sidelined until at least the middle of next week after being diagnosed with a strain. The severity of the injury has yet to be disclosed, so it's unclear how long the 32-year-old will actually be sidelined. O'Hearn went 0-for-1 at the plate Saturday before his quad forced him out of the game in the fourth inning. More will be known regarding the severity of his injury after the Pirates' medical staff completes its evaluation, but any missed time for the 32-year-old would likely result in extra starts in the outfield for Billy Cook or Nick Yorke.
