Guerrero missed most of September with right shoulder inflammation before returning to the active roster Sept. 20. He's now dealing with more shoulder trouble, and it's uncertain if he might be able to return in October should the Red Sox advance deep in the playoffs. Guerrero has been a reliable arm for Boston this season, posting a 3.10 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 18 holds across 40.2 innings (40 appearances).

Guerrero was trending toward a minimum-length absence after landing on the injured list Sept. 1 with shoulder inflammation, but a back injury will delay his return. The team doesn't seem to be very concerned about the 35-year-old's new injury, however, so he'll likely still be able to rejoin Boston's bullpen before the end of the season.

Guerrero was charged with three runs while recording only one out in Monday's win over the Mariners, and a day later he's now on the IL. Interim manager Chad Tracy said he's "very hopeful" Guerrero will be back when his 15 days are up, per Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. The Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball signed Guerrero to a one-year, $600,000 contract Tuesday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Guerrero spent most of the 2024 season at Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels organization, collecting a 5.73 ERA and 32:11 K:BB over 33 frames. The tall right-hander will turn 34 in January and last pitched in the majors in 2019.
