  • Phillies' Sergio Alcantara: Catches on with Philadelphia

The Phillies signed Alcantara to a minor-league contract Friday. Alcantara finalized his deal shortly before Triple-A Lehigh Valley's opener and went on to appear in two games during the affiliate's season-opening series, going 1-for-5 with a double, three walks and a stolen base. The 29-year-old has previously seen big-league action in parts of four seasons but will likely need the Philadelphia infield to be ravaged by injuries before receiving a call-up.

  • Sergio Alcantara: Cut by Washington

The Nationals released Alcantara on Tuesday. Alcantara was unable to win a utility job with the Nationals coming out of spring training, and rather than sticking around in the organization at Triple-A Rochester, he'll hit the open market in pursuit of an opportunity elsewhere. The 29-year-old switch-hitter saw action in one game at the big-league level with the Giants in 2025, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

  • Nationals' Sergio Alcantara: Removed from big-league camp

The Nationals reassigned Alcantara to minor-league camp Sunday. Alcantara logged four plate appearances with the Giants last season in his first MLB action since 2022, but he was outrighted off the 40-man roster in July and ended up finishing the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Reno in the Arizona organization. He caught on with the Nationals on a minor-league deal in January but fell short in his bid for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old is likely to report to Triple-A Rochester to begin the upcoming season.

  • Nationals' Sergio Alcantara: Lands with Nationals on NRI deal

The Nationals signed Alcantara to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Alcantara got into one game with the Giants in 2025, marking his first action at the major-league level since 2022. He sports a career .207/.278/.340 batting line covering parts of four big-league seasons. Alcantara should begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Rochester, where he'll give the Nationals some utility infielder depth.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Outrighted to Reno

Alcantara cleared waivers Tuesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Reno, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Alcantara never appeared in a game after signing with the Diamondbacks on Friday, but he'll stick with the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 29-year-old owns a .571 OPS in Triple-A this season and will likely remain a minor-league depth piece for the rest of the year.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: DFA'd by Arizona

The Diamondbacks designated Alcantara for assignment Sunday. The utility infielder inked a major-league contract with Arizona on Friday to provide some depth with Ketel Marte (personal) on the restricted list, but Marte rejoined the active roster Sunday. Alcantara didn't see action during his brief time on the Diamondbacks' active roster, though he did play in one game with the Giants earlier this season.

  • Giants' Sergio Alcantara: Clears waivers

The Giants outrighted Alcantara to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday after he cleared waivers. Alcantara will tentatively remain in the organization after being designated for assignment over the weekend, though he'll have the ability to elect free agency if he prefers to pursue opportunities elsewhere. The Giants called Alcantara up from Triple-A last Thursday but he was up with the big club for just two days before losing his roster spot.

  • Giants' Sergio Alcantara: Designated for assignment

The Giants designated Alcantara for assignment Saturday. Alcantara went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday in his first MLB game since 2022, but his time with the Giants will be short-lived now that Matt Chapman (hand) is back from the IL. Alcantara owns a .571 OPS through 256 plate appearances in Triple-A and will most likely pass through waivers unclaimed.

  • Giants' Sergio Alcantara: Has contract selected

Alcantara had his contract selected by the Giants on Thursday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Alcantara inked a minor-league deal with the Giants during the offseason and has struggled to a .206/.319/.252 line across 256 plate appearances with Triple-A Sacramento. Despite the underwhelming line, he'll get his first chance in the majors since the 2022 season.

  • Giants' Sergio Alcantara: Signs MiLB deal with Giants

Alcantara signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Alcantara spent time last season with the Pirates' and Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliates, slashing .271/.388/.416 across 492 total plate appearances. • Pirates' Sergio Alcantara: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Pirates reassigned Alcantara to minor-league camp Sunday. Over 98 games for the Triple-A affiliates of the Cubs and Diamondbacks in 2023, Alcantara posted a .776 OPS. The 27-year-old has posted a .687 OPS through 192 games in the majors across three seasons.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Catches on with Arizona

Alcantara signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Aug. 1 and has gone 2-for-18 with a home run, three walks, four runs and four RBI in five games for Triple-A Reno. After parting ways with the Cubs in late July, Alcantara has begun his fourth stint in the Diamondbacks organization. He signed with Arizona as an international free agent in 2012, but he was later traded to the Tigers in 2017 before catching back on with Arizona via two separate waiver claims during the 2022 season. The 27-year-old infielder has spent parts of three seasons in the majors but has played exclusively at the Triple-A level in 2023, slashing .258/.353/.408 with seven home runs in 69 games between the Cubs' and Diamondbacks' top affiliates.

  • Cubs' Sergio Alcantara: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Alcantara was reassigned Thursday to the minor-league side of Cubs camp, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Alcantara was sporting a cool .818 OPS through 22 plate appearances this spring in the Cactus League, but he's left without an Opening Day roster spot since the Cubs' offseason additions all made it through camp unscathed.

  • Cubs' Sergio Alcantara: Drives in three, steals base

Alcantara went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Rangers. He also stole his first base of the spring. Alcantara had a nice game as he competes for a bench role with the Cubs. The 26-year-old joined Chicago on a minor-league deal in December, so he's likely ticketed for Triple-A Iowa with the likes of Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner and Nick Madrigal ahead of him as middle-infield options. Alcantara is organizational depth with limited fantasy appeal at the moment.

  • Cubs' Sergio Alcantara: Gets minors deal from Cubs

Alcantara signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs on Tuesday. Splitting time between the D-backs and Padres in 2022, Alcantara slashed .220/.261/.356 over 224 plate appearances. He posted an .898 OPS during his last minor-league stint in 2021. Similar production and/or an injury in the Cubs' major-league infield could earn the 26-year-old another opportunity in the bigs this season

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Designated for assignment

Alcantara was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Alcantara played in 93 games between Arizona and San Diego last season and struggled at the plate with a .617 OPS. He was removed from the 40-man roster in order to free up space for prospects ahead of the Rule 5 draft.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Settling into regular role

Alcantara will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Brewers. With Ketel Marte landing on the injured list Friday, Alcantara looks poised to finish the season in a near-everyday role in the Arizona infield. Alcantara will pick up his third consecutive start Monday after going 2-for-8 with two doubles and four RBI over the weekend during Arizona's series with San Francisco.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Returns to bench role

Alcantara is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Alcantara finds himself as the odd man out of the starting nine with Ketel Marte (hamstring) returning from a six-game absence to serve as Arizona's designated hitter. While picking up starts at third base in each of the past three contests, Alcantara went 2-for-10 with two doubles, a walk, three runs and an RBI.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Not in Saturday's lineup

Alcantara isn't starting Saturday's game against the Nationals. Alcantara started Friday against Washington but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. He'll take a seat since Ketel Marte is starting at second base while Jake McCarthy serves as the designated hitter Saturday.

  • Diamondbacks' Sergio Alcantara: Heads to bench

Alcantara isn't starting Saturday against the Padres. Alcantara has alternated starts over the last week and has gone 6-for-16 with a homer, a double, three RBI and four strikeouts. He'll head to the bench while Buddy Kennedy starts at the keystone and bats seventh.
