The Blue Jays added Bassitt (back) to the active roster for the ALCS against the Mariners, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. The veteran right-hander finished the regular season on the injured list due to back inflammation and wasn't included on Toronto's ALDS roster, but he's now ready to go. Bassitt pitched well as a back-end starter during the regular season with a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 166:52 K:BB across 170.1 innings. but he may have a more flexible role for the postseason. Fellow starting pitcher Max Scherzer was also added to the active roster to face Seattle.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Not on ALDS roster

Bassitt (back) isn't included on the Blue Jays' ALDS roster. Bassitt was expected to be available for the ALDS after ending the regular season on the injured list due to back inflammation, but the Jays will instead give the veteran righty additional time to heal. He will be eligible to rejoin Toronto's pitching staff for the ALCS if the team prevails over the Yankees in the ALDS.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Will be available for ALDS

Bassitt (back) is expected to be available to pitch during the ALDS, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Bassitt landed on the 15-day injured list late in the regular season with lower-back inflammation, but he's made good progress with the injury since then. While it appears likely Bassitt will be included on the Blue Jays' ALDS roster, it's unclear whether the club will use him in the rotation or bullpen.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: On IL with back inflammation

The Blue Jays placed Bassitt on the 15-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Friday, with lower-back inflammation. Bassitt's injury will prevent him from making another start in the regular season, so he'll finish 2025 with a 3.96 ERA and 1.33 WHIP to go with a 166:52 K:BB through 170.1 innings. However, he'll be eligible to return from the IL for the start of the ALDS if he can come back following a minimum-length stay. Until then, the Blue Jays will recall Mason Fluharty from Triple-A Buffalo to provide additional depth out of the bullpen.

Bassitt (11-9) took the loss Thursday against Tampa Bay, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three. All three runs charged to Bassitt came in the second inning, when the Rays strung together five straight two-out singles. The 36-year-old Bassitt has gone 10 starts without a win (his last victory came on July 23), though he had pitched to a 2.30 ERA in five outings prior to Thursday. Overall, the right-hander sports a 3.96 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 166:52 K:BB through 170.1 innings this season. Bassitt's currently in line to face the Red Sox at home his next time out.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Takes tough-luck loss Saturday

Bassitt (11-8) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three batters over five innings. A second-inning error helped the Yankees score the only two runs they managed against Bassitt. Though the righty hurler didn't allow any extra-base hits, that pair of unearned runs was enough to saddle him with the loss. Bassitt is now winless across his past eight starts, though he's allowed more than three runs only once during that span. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start, which is lined up to come against Baltimore next week.

Bassitt took a no-decision Monday against the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out six. Monday represented Bassitt's first quality start since his Aug. 3 start against the Royals. The veteran right-hander has walked multiple batters in six consecutive outings, though he has fanned at least six in three straight appearances. Bassitt will take a 4.10 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 154:46 K:BB across 156 innings into his next outing, which is slated for this weekend on the road against a Yankees team with an .803 OPS since the beginning of August.

Bassitt was in line for his first win since July 23 before Toronto's bullpen fumbled the lead. He's struggled with his command and control lately; Bassitt has walked multiple batters in five straight outings, registering a 27:14 K:BB over 27 frames during that span. In six starts since his last win, he's produced a 5.22 ERA, raising his season mark to 4.14 over 150 innings. Bassitt is lined up to start in Cincinnati next week.

Bassitt (11-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out 10. Bassitt got off to a rocky start, allowing two runs with two outs in the first inning. The veteran right-hander would settle down and blank Pittsburgh over his final 4.2 frames while matching a season-high with 10 strikeouts. However, Bassitt would ultimately wind up with the loss, as the Blue Jays failed to generate much offensively in a 2-1 defeat. Bassitt has gone five starts without a win while struggling to a 5.68 ERA in that span. Overall, he sports a 4.18 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 142 strikeouts across 144.1 innings this season.

The veteran righty got only 57 of his 100 pitches over the plate as he tied his season high in free passes and walked multiple batters for the third straight start. Bassitt's control and command have slipped since the All-Star break, and he's stumbled to a 5.68 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB in 25.1 innings over his last five outings while serving up eight homers, including a Kyle Higashioka blast in the second inning Friday. He'll look to tighten things up in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Pittsburgh.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Delivers quality start

Bassitt did not factor in the decision during Sunday's extra-inning loss to Kansas City. He allowed a run on one hit and three walks over six innings while striking out five. The lone run against Bassitt came on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly by Mike Yastrzemski. It was a welcome bounce-back after Bassitt coughed up six runs in just 2.1 innings in his last appearance. He threw 91 pitches (54 strikes) Sunday and walked multiple batters for the first time since July 3; Bassitt had walked only two batters over his previous 23 frames. The veteran righty is now sporting a 4.12 ERA with a 126:33 K:BB through 129 frames. Bassitt is lined up for a road matchup with the Dodgers next weekend.

Bassitt was tagged for six runs over the second and third innings, including back-to-back homers in the second. The rough outing puts a damper on what was previously a strong July, as the veteran entered Monday having yielded just seven earned runs in 26.1 frames this month. He'll take a 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 121:30 K:BB across 123 innings into a home matchup with the Royals this weekend.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Fans eight in victory

Bassitt (11-4) earned the win over the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over 7.1 innings. Bassitt gave up three homers in the outing, but New York didn't manage any other hits against him. It was the first time the veteran righty has given up multiple homers since May 30, though the long balls didn't prevent Bassitt from notching his 11th win of the campaign, which is tied for second most among MLB hurlers. Bassitt has recorded a quality start in each of his past three starts, and he's allowed just four earned runs over 19.2 innings during that span.

Bassitt (10-4) picked up the win in Friday's 4-0 victory over the Giants, allowing 10 hits over 6.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. The veteran righty dealt with runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings and again in the sixth and seventh, but Bassitt wriggled off the hook each time to record his eighth quality start of the year. In the process, he became the first pitcher to give up double-digit hits without being charged with a run since 2015. Bassitt has a 1.89 ERA in July while winning three straight starts, and he'll look to extend that streak in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Yankees.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Hangs on for eighth win

Bassitt (8-4) earned the win Thursday over the Yankees, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out nine. Bassitt had to contend with traffic for most of his outing, though he managed to hold the Yankees to three runs while posting his highest strikeout total since April 16 en route to an eventual 8-5 Toronto victory. It was a step in the right direction for Bassitt, who gave up nine runs (eight earned) over just two innings during his last outing against the Red Sox. Overall, the 36-year-old right-hander sports a 4.32 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP and 102:28 K:BB across 18 starts (100 innings) this season. Bassitt is currently scheduled to face the White Sox on the road his next time out.

Bassitt (7-4) took the loss against the Red Sox on Saturday, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits and four walks while striking out three across two-plus innings. Bassitt entered Saturday's game having logged three quality starts over his last four outings. That momentum came to a crashing halt, as the veteran right-hander gave up three runs in each of the three innings he pitched, recording just six outs while tossing 70 pitches (44 strikes). The eight earned runs Bassitt gave up Saturday were as many as he yielded over his previous three starts combined, which inflates his ERA to 4.29 and WHIP to 1.36 across 94.1 innings this season. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which is lined up to come against the Yankees at home next week.

Overall, Bassitt is 7-3 with a 3.61 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 90:21 K:BB across 16 starts (92.1 innings) this season. He's currently lined up to face the Red Sox on the road his next time out.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Comes away with fifth win

Bassitt (5-3) earned the win against the Athletics on Friday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings. Bassitt started out strong by retiring the side in the first inning, but he proceeded to give up at least one run in each of the next four frames, including solo home runs to Tyler Soderstrom and Shea Langeliers in the second and fourth, respectively. It was the second straight game in which Bassitt yielded five earned runs, but he got enough run support from the Blue Jays' batters to come away with his third win in May. He has a 3.80 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 66.1 innings this season, and his 69 strikeouts rank 11th in the American League. Bassitt will look for win No. 6 of the season in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Twins.
