  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Begins rehab assignment

Crawford (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with a walk in his first rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. Crawford played all nine innings at shortstop in his first game action in three weeks. The veteran infielder's rehab assignment happened to kick off on the same day the Mariners announced a contract extension with top shortstop prospect Colt Emerson, who played third base for the Rainiers next to Crawford on Tuesday. Emerson is expected to remain at Tacoma for now and Crawford could be activated at any time, but the former could eventually push aside the latter when he's ready to take over at shortstop with the big club.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Goes on IL with shoulder injury

The Mariners placed Crawford (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Crawford has battled nagging right shoulder inflammation since the start of spring training and was given a cortisone injection last week. He is eligible for activation April 1 and has expressed optimism that he could return within the next couple weeks, per Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. Leo Rivas will fill in at shortstop for the Mariners while Crawford is shelved.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Uncertain for Opening Day

Crawford received a cortisone injection in his injured shoulder Wednesday, and manager Dan Wilson said it's unclear if the shortstop will be ready to play in the March 26 season opener versus the Guardians, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Following the injection, Crawford will be shut down for a few days, according to Divish. The veteran shortstop has been dealing with the shoulder issue for most of spring training and has appeared in just seven Cactus League contests. He has two hits across 18 trips to the plate and now may be in danger of missing Opening Day. If Crawford is shelved to begin the season, Leo Rivas and top prospect Colt Emerson would be the top candidates to fill in at shortstop.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Remains out of lineup Tuesday

Crawford (shoulder) is not included in the lineup for either of the Mariners' split-squad Cactus League games Tuesday. Crawford was initially expected to return Tuesday, but a nagging shoulder issue is keeping him out of action. According to general manager Justin Hollander, the concern level regarding Crawford is "not high," per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. Crawford has been dealing with the shoulder issue all spring. If he's unable to play Opening Day next week, Leo Rivas and Colt Emerson are options to man shortstop for the Mariners.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Should return Tuesday

Crawford (shoulder) is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday for one of the Mariners' split-squad games, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The veteran shortstop missed time earlier in camp due to a shoulder issue that he aggravated last week, but the setback doesn't appear to be serious. Crawford is still expected to be in the lineup at shortstop Opening Day.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Back at shortstop

Crawford (shoulder) will start at shortstop and bat fifth in Monday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks. Crawford will be included in the Cactus League lineup for the sixth time this spring, but he'll be making just his second start at shortstop and his first since Feb. 20. The 31-year-old has been battling a cranky shoulder during camp, which prompted the Mariners to use him as a designated hitter for his last four starts. Crawford should be ready to play shortstop on an everyday basis once the regular season gets underway; the Mariners appear to have simply exercised caution this spring by limiting his usage in the infield early on.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Making spring debut Tuesday

Crawford (shoulder) is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth in Tuesday's Cactus League contest versus the Angels. It will be the spring training debut for Crawford, who has been brought along slowly in Mariners camp due to a minor shoulder issue. He will be eased back into action at DH and is expected to return to shortstop soon.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Scheduled for live BP

Crawford (shoulder) will take live at-bats Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Crawford's shoulder has never been considered a threat to his Opening Day availability, as the Mariners previously said they're simply taking a cautious approach with ramping up the veteran infielder. He's expected to make his first Cactus League appearance of the spring Tuesday as a DH and begin playing in the field the following week.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Managing shoulder issue

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Wednesday that Crawford is tending to a shoulder issue and is expected to make his Cactus League debut at some point next week, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports. Wilson downplayed any concern about Crawford's availability for Opening Day, noting instead that the Mariners are merely taking a cautious approach with the shortstop in the early stages of spring training. Crawford's absence from the lineup in the Mariners' initial Cactus League games will open up more opportunities for top prospect Colt Emerson to see some reps at shortstop, though Emerson still appears likely to open the season at Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Taking seat Saturday

Crawford isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers. Crawford will get a breather Saturday after going 3-for-14 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored across his last five games. Leo Rivas will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Crawford's stead.

The shortstop has a .266/.353/.374 slash line with 58 RBI, 67 runs scored, 24 doubles and eight stolen bases through 152 contests overall.

The shortstop has four multi-hit efforts over his last seven games, going 9-for-25 (.360) in that span. For the season, he's at a .264/.353/.362 slash line with 51 RBI, 64 runs scored, eight stolen bases and 22 doubles across 145 contests.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Drives in three

Crawford went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Thursday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Angels. This was Crawford's third multi-hit effort in his last five games. The shortstop opened the scoring with a two-run double in the second inning and added an RBI single in the 11th to tie it at 5-5, keeping the game alive before the Mariners walked it off in the 12th. Prior to Thursday, Crawford had logged just one RBI and no extra-base hits over his previous 14 games and hadn't recorded a steal since Aug. 9 versus the Rays. On the season, he has a .263/.353/.355 slash line with nine home runs, eight steals, 50 RBI and 63 runs scored over 143 contests.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Crosses plate twice in two-hit game

Crawford went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Sunday's 4-2 win over Cleveland. It was the sixth multi-hit game of the month for Crawford, who also scored multiple runs for the second time in August. The 30-year-old shortstop had worked as Seattle's primary leadoff man from May through July, but he's since tumbled down the batting order and hit seventh or lower in 28 consecutive outings. Crawford is slashing an uninspiring .240/.305/.344 with two home runs, four doubles, seven RBI and two stolen bases over his last 106 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Goes deep again

Crawford went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 5-4 win over the Rangers. Crawford took Jacob deGrom yard in the fourth inning, marking the shortstop's ninth homer of the campaign. He's swatted a long ball in two of his last three games, and Crawford has now scored a run in four consecutive contests. However, he hasn't had a multi-hit game since July 20. Since then, he's gone 6-for-33 (.182) at the dish.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Comes up clutch Friday

Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 4-3 win over the Rangers. Crawford has been in a significant slump since the All-Star break, going just 7-for-59 (.119) over his last 14 games. That didn't seem to weigh him down when he delivered a walk-off homer in the ninth inning for his first long ball since July 9 versus the Yankees. The rut has cost Crawford the leadoff spot versus right-handed pitchers -- Randy Arozarena has been atop the order for the Mariners in the last two games. Crawford still has a .265/.359/.364 slash line with eight homers, 42 RBI, 47 runs scored and five stolen bases over 107 games, but he doesn't often provide enough category coverage, which makes it tough to trust him in fantasy while he's hitting near the bottom of the lineup.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Sitting Monday

Crawford is not in the Mariners' starting lineup against the Athletics on Monday. Crawford will get a rest day while Dylan Moore starts at shortstop and bats eighth. • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Knocks in four runs

Crawford went 2-for-6 with a double and four RBI during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers. Crawford has been red-hot at the plate as the first half comes to a close, knocking in four runs in a game for the third time this season. He is also the owner of a 13-game hit streak, which he extended Saturday with a third-inning single and followed up with a bases-clearing double in the ninth. The 30-year-old's hot streak has contributed to a quality slash line of .287/.388/.387 with one game to go before the All-Star break.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Pushes hit streak to seven games

Crawford went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Pirates. Crawford extended his hitting streak to seven games and has now registered at least one hit in eight of his last nine. The 30-year-old shortstop continues to offer the Mariners some stability at the leadoff spot while Victor Robles (shoulder) sits on the injured list. Crawford hasn't supplied much in the way of power -- he's slugging just .383 over his last 58 outings -- but he's batting .287 with 19 RBI, 23 runs scored, 32 walks and four stolen bases across his last 267 plate appearances.
