  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Won't return in 2025

Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Seager (abdomen) will miss the rest of the season, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Seager recently resumed light baseball activities after undergoing an appendectomy in late August, but the team won't bother rushing him back now that they sit five games back of a wild-card spot with only six left to play. Despite missing time this year with hamstring injuries in addition to his recent procedure, the 31-year-old slashed .271/.373/.487 while collecting 21 home runs, 50 RBI, 61 runs and three stolen bases across 102 games.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Takes easy swings

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said that Seager (abdomen) took light swings Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Seager, who underwent an appendectomy in late August, rejoined his teammates for their current series in Houston and is doing some limited activity. Bochy added the shortstop has done some light rotation work and emphasized the word "light." The Rangers hope Seager can get back on the field and help the team's chase for the playoffs. Texas, which has lost four straight and sits 4.5 games back of a wild-card spot with just nine to play, may be out of contention by the time Seager is ready to contribute.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Does light jogging on field Monday

Seager (abdomen) did some light jogging on the field Monday, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Seager underwent an appendectomy Aug. 28 and he remains sore, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday. A return before the end of the season for Seager remains possible, but it doesn't appear imminent. Josh Smith has served as Texas' primary shortstop since Seager went on the 10-day injured list.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Could take swings soon

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Seager (abdomen) was able to rotate his body, MLB.com reports. Seager's ability to rotate his body enables the Rangers to speed up his recovery. He hopes to begin swinging a bat soon and could return during the team's final homestand beginning Sept. 19.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Placed on 10-day IL

The Rangers placed Seager (abdomen) on the 10-day injured list Friday. Seager is expected to miss a few weeks after undergoing an appendectomy Thursday, but the veteran shortstop could return for the final games of the regular season. Dylan Moore was called up from Triple-A Round Rock to provide infield depth for the Rangers, and Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran are slated to see additional work at shortstop for as long as Seager is sidelined. If Seager doesn't return this season, he'll finish 2025 with a .271/.373/.487 slash line with three steals, 61 runs, 21 homers and 50 RBI over 445 plate appearances.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: No complications from surgery

Seager (abdomen) underwent a successful appendectomy Thursday and experienced no complications, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning Newsreports. Seager will miss at least a few weeks but could return for the final stretch of the regular season. The fact that surgery went as planned will help clear his path to return, though the Rangers would likely still need to be within reach of a playoff spot to justify a late-season activation. Josh Smith is expected to be the primary option at shortstop in the meantime.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Undergoing appendectomy

Seager has been diagnosed with appendicitis and will undergo an appendectomy Thursday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young did not rule Seager out for the remainder of the season, but it's possible the shortstop does not return. Josh Smith will be the primary option at shortstop for the Rangers for as long as Seager is shelved, with Ezequiel Duran, Cody Freeman and Dylan Moore being mixed in some versus lefties. If Seager's season is indeed over, he will finish with a .271/.373/.487 batting line and 20 home runs over 102 games.
