Top Orlando Arcia News

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Fills in at third base

Arcia went 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Arcia drew the start at third base with Kyle Karros (back) sidelined, and he's now been in the lineup twice across four games since being activated from the injured list. He drew his two RBI with a sacrifice fly and an infield single and also tallied an insurance run in the sixth inning. Assuming Karros is able to avoid the injured list, Arcia will likely shift to a bench role moving forward.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Comes off IL

The Rockies activated Arcia (elbow) off the injured list Saturday.

Arcia missed the minimum 10 games while on the IL due to right elbow inflammation. Though he's now healthy enough to return to action, he may be reduced to a part-time role given that Kyle Karros has hit well while manning the hot corner after being promoted in the wake of Arcia's IL stint. Aaron Schunk was sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday to clear room for Arcia's return to the 26-man roster.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Placed on injured list

The Rockies placed Arcia on the 10-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation.

Arcia hasn't played since leaving Tuesday's game early with an elbow injury, and he'll officially miss at least another week now that he's on the IL. Kyle Karros and Aaron Schunk were both called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to replenish the Rockies' infield depth, though it's unclear which player will receive the lion's share of the playing time at third base.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Out Wednesday with elbow injury

Arcia won't start in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays due to a right elbow injury, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.

Arcia went 1-for-2 with a base hit before he was lifted for a pinch runner in the bottom of the fifth inning of Tuesday's 10-4 loss due to the elbow issue. According to Henry, interim manager Warren Schaeffer said that Arcia is set to undergo an MRI on Wednesday, and the Rockies will wait and see how the veteran infielder feels following Thursday's off day before determining whether he'll require a stint on the injured list. Kyle Farmer will cover third base in Arcia's stead Wednesday.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Leaves with trainer

Arcia was removed from Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays with an apparent injury, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Arcia left the game immediately after slapping a single to right field in the fifth inning, though it's unclear what exactly is bothering him. The Rockies' training staff will evaluate him further and should offer some clarity soon; meanwhile, Kyle Farmer will take over at third base for Colorado.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Sitting out Monday

Arcia is absent from the lineup for Monday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Arcia has received the lion's share of playing time at third base since the Rockies traded Ryan McMahon to the Yankees on July 25, but he'll get a breather Monday. Kyle Farmer will fill in at the hot corner and bat ninth for Colorado.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Hits third homer of 2025

Arcia went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 8-5 win over Pittsburgh.

After bringing home a run on a groundout in the sixth frame, Arcia gave the Rockies an 8-4 lead in the eighth with a solo shot off Genesis Cabrera to left-center field. It was just the third home run of the season for Arcia, with his last taking place June 29 against the Brewers. He has recorded a hit in each of his last five starts, going 5-for-18 (.278) over that span.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Drawing third straight start

Arcia will start at third base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Arcia will cover the hot corner for the third game in a row and looks like he'll get the first chance to serve as the Rockies' primary option at the position after Colorado shipped Ryan McMahon to the Yankees earlier this weekend. Since signing with Colorado in late May, Arcia hasn't done much to prove that he's deserving of regular playing time. Through 35 games, the veteran infielder is slashing just .160/.200/.250 with two home runs, no stolen bases, five RBI and six runs.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Retreating to bench Sunday

Arcia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Arcia had picked up starts in the middle infield in three of the Rockies' previous four games, but he'll head to the bench Sunday even while second baseman Thairo Estrada (thumb) remains out of the lineup. Estrada will likely be ready to go for the start of the Rockies' second-half slate, and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (oblique) could also be activated from the injured list coming out of the All-Star break. Arcia is batting .188 with two home runs and five RBI in 27 games since signing with Colorado in late May.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Back on bench Monday

Arcia is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Arcia had started in four of the Rockies' past five games at three different positions, but he'll hit the bench Monday and may have to settle for more of a part-time role moving forward. With the Rockies recalling Michael Toglia from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday and likely to reinstall him as their everyday first baseman, Arcia's main pathways to playing time could come at shortstop and designated hitter moving forward.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Sitting down Saturday

Arcia isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Arcia went 1-for-5 in Friday's 12-4 loss to extend his hitting streak to four games. After starting at shortstop Friday, Arcia will give way to Ryan Ritter on Saturday. Ritter projects to serve as the Rockies' primary option at the position while Ezequiel Tovar (oblique) is on the shelf, but Arcia could continue to see steady at-bats while also making starts at first base, third base and designated hitter.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: On bench Friday

Arcia is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.

Arcia had made four consecutive starts -- two at shortstop, one at third base and one at second base. However, he'll get a breather Friday as Ryan Ritter makes his MLB debut and plays shortstop.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Slugs homer in loss

Arcia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Mets.

Arcia made his second start with the Rockies since signing with the team Monday. He delivered his home run to start the third inning. Arcia hasn't yet moved into a full-time role with Colorado, but if he's able to build on Sunday's performance, he could gain some traction in the everyday lineup quickly.

  • Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Headed to Colorado

Arcia agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Rockies on Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Arcia didn't have to wait long to find work after being released by Atlanta on Sunday. Once his deal with Colorado is finalized, he'll look to join his new club on the current road trip in Chicago, per Alvarez-Montes. Though Arcia has played primarily at shortstop during his career, the Rockies have Ezequiel Tovar locked in at that position on a long-term contract, so Arcia will likely end up seeing most of his opportunities at second base. Rookie Adael Amador has been serving as the Rockies' primary option at the keystone, but he's produced a lowly .473 OPS over 98 plate appearances and could end up being supplanted by Arcia.

  • Orlando Arcia: Cut loose by Atlanta

Atlanta released Arcia on Sunday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

No team was willing to take on the money remaining on Arcia's $2 million contract for 2025 after Atlanta designated him for assignment a few days earlier, but now that he's been released, the 30-year-old shouldn't have too much trouble catching on elsewhere on a minor-league or lower-cost MLB deal. Since Dansby Swanson left for the Cubs following the 2022 campaign, Arcia had spent the past two seasons as Atlanta's primary shortstop and entered 2025 atop the depth chart, but he was quickly supplanted by newcomer Nick Allen. With Allen having taken hold of a regular role since mid-April, Arcia hadn't made any starts in a month before Atlanta elected to drop him from the 40-man roster.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: DFA'd by Atlanta

Atlanta designated Arcia for assignment Friday.

The 30-year-old was Atlanta's Opening Day shortstop but quickly lost out on playing time to Nick Allen and has just 32 plate appearances this year. Arcia was an All-Star in 2023 but took a major step back last season with a .218/.271/.354 slash line in 157 regular-season games.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: Losing work to Nick Allen

Arcia is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays.

Arcia has started just three times in the last 11 games and appears to have ceded the top job at shortstop to Nick Allen, who has produced a .321/.367/.393 slash line so far this season. Meanwhile, Arcia has struggled mightily at the plate, posting a .490 OPS while striking out at a career-worst 28 percent clip over 25 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: Sitting again Sunday

Arcia is not in Atlanta's starting lineup against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports.

For the third time in four games, Arcia will begin the contest in the dugout while Nick Allen gets the start at shortstop and bats eighth. Arcia has gone 4-for-17 with one run scored and one RBI over his last five outings.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: Not starting Saturday

Arcia is not in Atlanta's starting lineup against Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Arcia went 0-for-4 in Friday's series opener, and he'll begin Saturday's contest in the dugout while Nick Allen gets the start at shortstop. Arcia has started the season slashing .208/.240/.250 with one RBI across 25 plate appearances.
