Brewers' Ariel Pena: Accepts assignment to Triple-A
Pena accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Pena had the option of refusing to be sent to the minors and go to free agency instead, but he opted to stay with the Brewers organization. He'll develop more in the minor leagues for the time being, although his major league experience does make him a candidate to get called back up if anything bad happens to the bullpen at the major league level.

Pena had a shaky spring in which he allowed nine earned runs over 10 innings, but showed enough promise to earn one of the final bullpen spots in Milwaukee. Look for the right to serve primarily in middle relief.

Pena started five of the six games he appeared in for the Brewers last season, but he is out of options and is on the outside looking in at the starting rotation this spring, so the club will let him pitch as a reliever in an effort to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. Given Pena's starting experience, he figures to work as a long reliever if he makes the cut.
