Hernandez went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in a 5-3 win against Colorado on Monday.
Hernandez missed Los Angeles' first 53 games while recovering from elbow surgery, and Monday marked his season debut. He didn't take long to make an impact, roping a double to left field in his first plate appearance to give the Dodgers an early lead. Hernandez added an infield single in the fifth before exiting in favor of a pinch hitter in the seventh. Hernandez started at third base Monday in place of Max Muncy (wrist). Muncy could be back as soon as Wednesday, but Hernandez could still see occasional starts given his ability to play just about anywhere on the diamond aside from catcher.

Hernandez (elbow) will kick of a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Hernandez is set for his first game action since undergoing surgery on his left elbow last November. The super-utility man is currently on the 60-day IL and isn't eligible to be activated until May 24, and there seems to be a good chance that he'll be ready to join the big-league Dodgers at that time. In his initial rehab appearance Tuesday, Hernandez is playing third base and batting second for OKC.

Hernandez is working his way back from surgery on his left (non-throwing) elbow. Hernandez underwent left elbow surgery in mid-November and is currently on the 60-day IL. Manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that the utility man is progressing well and indicated that he would be "shocked" if Hernandez isn't ready to return when first eligible. On the mend from Nov. 14 extensor repair procedure on his left elbow, Hernandez took a major step forward in his recovery process by hitting a baseball Wednesday for the first time since his surgery. Hernandez will still need to advance to facing live pitching in addition to proving that the elbow injury doesn't compromise him as a fielder before the Dodgers clear him for what will be an extended minor-league rehab assignment. Once activated, Hernandez projects to fill a utility role for the Dodgers and is likely to see most of his starts against left-handed pitching.

It had been considered a formality that Hernandez would return to the Dodgers. Enrique Hernandez: Will not be ready Opening Day
Hernandez (elbow) said on Adam Ottavino's "Baseball & Coffee" podcast that he will miss the first "month or two" next season.
Hernandez revealed that the left elbow surgery he had earlier this month was a full extensor repair after the tendon tore completely off the bone. The utility man played through the injury for the second half of the regular season and playoffs, electing to delay a procedure until the offseason. Less than a week ago, Roberts expressed some uncertainty whether Hernandez would be ready to return from the IL before season's end, but the 33-year-old utility player has evidently made some significant strides in his recovery from left elbow inflammation in recent days. According to MLB.com, Roberts said that Hernandez has reached a point in his rehab that he's able to ramp up his involvement in baseball activities. Hernandez has already done some throwing, running and fielding grounders, but swinging the bat without discomfort will be the major hurdle that he'll need to clear before heading out on a rehab assignment.
