  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Diagnosed with flexor strain

Suarez has been diagnosed with a mild flexor strain in his right forearm, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Suarez suffered the injury during his final appearance of the regular season Sept. 14. He's expected to begin a throwing program in the coming weeks. Suarez was limited to just 11.2 innings for the Orioles this season, with most of the missed time occurring due to a right shoulder strain.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Getting another MRI on elbow

Suarez will undergo another MRI on his injured right elbow after the inflammation subsides, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Suarez had imaging last week after landing on the 15-day injured list, but the results were inconclusive due to inflammation. He's scheduled to meet with Dr. Keith Meister on Oct. 7, and more should be known about his condition after that exam.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Shelved with sore elbow

The Orioles placed Suarez on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow discomfort. Suarez pitched well in an abbreviated start during Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays, striking out five over three innings of one-run ball. However, he came out of it with a sore pitching elbow, which will sideline him for the remainder of the season. Suarez had previously missed most of the season with a right shoulder strain. He will undergo an MRI on his elbow Monday night to determine the severity of the injury, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Fans five in short outing

Suarez did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to Toronto. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out five in three innings. Suarez threw three innings during a scheduled bullpen game and delivered a solid performance. His five strikeouts matched his season total through 8.2 innings entering Sunday's game. He tossed two scoreless frames before giving up an RBI double to George Springer in the third inning. Suarez owns a 2.31 ERA and a 13:2 K:BB through 11.2 innings. He'll likely continue working in a bulk bullpen role down the stretch.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Returns from 60-day IL

The Orioles activated Suarez (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Monday. Suarez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since suffering a shoulder strain in his first appearance of the season back on March 28. He made five rehab appearances, registering a 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 5:6 K:BB across 12.2 innings of work. Now healthy again, Suarez is expected to work as a long-relief option for Baltimore.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Ready for rehab assignment

Suarez (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday or Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The Orioles have yet to decide which affiliate Suarez will join for his rehab assignment, but the 35-year-old righty is ready to test himself in a game setting after he recently completed multiple live sessions without issue. Suarez has been on the shelf since March 30 due to a right subscapularis strain. so he may be in store for a lengthy rehab assignment, especially if the Orioles choose to have him get stretched out as a starter.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Close to facing hitters

Suarez (shoulder) is expected to face hitters in live batting practice before the end of July, MLB.com reports. Suarez was cleared to throw off a mound earlier this month and tossed his most recent bullpen session Saturday. The right-hander is recovering from a subscapularis strain. Suarez made 24 starts for the Orioles in 2024, but he made his lone appearance this season out of the bullpen before he landed on the shelf. He's likely in line for a relief role once he returns from the 60-day injured list, but not needing to be stretched out for a starting job should shorten his rehab program.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Throwing off mound soon

Suarez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session later this week, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. It will be his first time throwing from the bump since going down with a right shoulder strain in late March. Suarez is hoping to contribute to the Orioles at some point after the All-Star break, but he still has numerous boxes to check.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Still playing catch

Suarez (shoulder) played catch Friday and remains without a timetable for return, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Suarez's recovery has seemingly plateaued, as the 35-year-old hasn't progressed past playing catch since it was reported he was throwing at 105 feet off flat ground. He's been on the shelf since March 28.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Extends throwing distance

Suarez (shoulder) extended his throwing distance off flat ground to 105 feet Friday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Suarez started up his throwing program earlier in May and is now extending his distance, and he could progress to bullpen sessions in the near future. The right-hander landed on the shelf with a shoulder strain after his season debut March 28, and he'll likely require multiple rehab appearances in the minors once cleared for game action.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Considered sixth starter

Manager Brandon Hyde said Saturday that Suarez is currently positioned as Baltimore's No. 6 starting pitcher, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. The right-hander is a strong bet to make the Opening Day roster since he's out of minor-league options, but he could be headed to the bullpen rather than the starting rotation. The Orioles have Zach Eflin, Grayson Rodriguez, Charlie Morton, Dean Kremer and Tomoyuki Sugano poised to begin the campaign as their five-man unit, with Cade Povich coming in at the No. 7 spot. Suarez started in 24 of his 32 regular-season appearances last season and is on track to work as a swingman again in 2025.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Starting spring opener

Suarez is scheduled to start Saturday's Grapefruit League opener against the Pirates. Suarez made 24 starts among his 32 appearances last season, pitching to a respectable 3.70 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 133.2 total innings for Baltimore. He struggled to a 6.20 ERA in September and was left off the wild-card roster, but the 35-year-old righty will have a chance to return to the rotation mix in his second season back in the majors following an extended stint overseas between Japan and Korea. While lacking in terms of strikeouts, Suarez will be a streaming candidate against lesser opponents if he's making regular starts for the Orioles, which doesn't seem far fetched given the question marks on the starting staff.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Not part of wild-card roster

Suarez is not on the Orioles' American League Wild Card Series roster. Suarez is a candidate to potentially get a start in the ALDS, should the Orioles advance, but the club will need just a max of three starters during the wild-card series. Matt Bowman was also left off the Orioles' roster, with Colin Selby and Cade Povich capturing the final two spots in the bullpen.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Quality start sets up ninth win

Suarez (9-7) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over six innings against the Twins. He struck out four. Suarez closed out the 2024 regular season with a quality start, allowing a couple of solo homers but limiting the Twins to just three additional baserunners. It was a nice bounce-back effort for Suarez, who had allowed eight earned runs over his previous two starts spanning 8.2 innings. After having allowed just eight home runs through his first 27 appearances (109 innings) this year, Suarez has been tagged for nine long balls over his last five starts and 24.2 innings. The propensity for giving up the long ball will be a concern as the Orioles set their postseason pitching staff.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Tagged for four runs in loss

Suarez (8-7) took the loss Sunday against Detroit, allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out six. Suarez served up three solo home runs -- two to Kerry Carpenter and a third to Spencer Torkelson. Even after tossing six innings of one-run ball against Boston back on Sep. 10, Suarez has been highly volatile in September. The 34-year-old veteran owns an ugly 7.23 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and a 19:7 K:BB in 18.2 innings this month, ballooning his ERA from 3.14 to 3.74. The right-hander will be difficult to trust in his final start of the season, scheduled for next weekend against the Twins.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Short outing vs. Giants

Suarez (8-6) took the loss Tuesday against San Francisco, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three. Suarez got off to a rough start, allowing a first-inning homer to Mike Yastrzemski on his second pitch of the game before the Giants tacked on two more runs in the second. The 34-year-old Suarez came into the day with a 2.43 ERA over his previous seven outings. His ERA now sits at 3.60 with a 1.32 WHIP and 98:41 K:BB across 122.2 innings this season. Suarez will look to get back on track in his next start, currently lined up for this weekend at home against the Tigers.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Allows two homers in no-decision

Suarez did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 win against the Astros, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts across 5.2 innings. Suarez was pulled an out shy of a quality start after surrendering his second solo homer of the game in the sixth inning. A leadoff blast by Jose Altuve in the first broke the 34-year-old's streak of 17.2 scoreless frames since joining the rotation Aug. 6, and Suarez has now exceeded 90 pitches in three consecutive outings. On the year, he owns a 3.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB across 102 innings and lines up for a road matchup at Coors Field next week.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Earns win with six scoreless

Suarez (6-4) pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday against Boston, allowing seven hits and zero walks while striking out six. Suarez was excellent Sunday, scattering seven hits (all singles) to notch his fourth quality start of the season. Suarez has been excellent since taking over Grayson Rodriguez's (lat) spot in the rotation Aug. 6, firing 17.2 scoreless innings in three starts. The 34-year-old now sports a 3.18 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 78:33 K:BB in 96.1 innings (17 starts) this season. He is tentatively scheduled to face the Astros next weekend.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: No longer starting Saturday

Suarez is no longer scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun reports. The responsibility will instead fall to Cade Povich, who will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Suarez has been terrific since re-entering the rotation in place of the injured Grayson Rodriguez (lat), tossing 11.2 scoreless innings with an 11:3 K:BB. It's not clear whether Suarez will simply be pushed back or is being moved to long relief, which is his likely role in the postseason for the Orioles.

  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Hurls five scoreless in no-decision

Suarez did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six over five scoreless innings. Suarez started in place of Grayson Rodriguez (lat) and was locked in a pitcher's duel with Chris Bassitt before departing at 73 pitches. The 34-year-old posted a 7.64 ERA in four July starts and allowed three earned runs out of the bullpen Thursday, but he still owns a solid 3.66 ERA across 83.2 innings this season. Should Rodriguez miss any time, Suarez likely earned another chance to fill his rotation spot with this performance.
