  • Mariners' Luke Jackson: Joins Mariners

Jackson signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Thursday. Jackson elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Tigers in early August. He'll likely start his time with Seattle at Triple-A Tacoma, but he could contribute to the big-league club in the final weeks of the regular season.

  • Luke Jackson: Becomes free agent

Jackson elected free agency Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The veteran reliever cleared waivers after being removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster and will seek a job elsewhere rather than accepting an outright assignment to the minors. Jackson has posted a 4.54 ERA and 28:24 K:BB over 39.2 innings this season between the Rangers and Tigers.

  • Tigers' Luke Jackson: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Tigers designated Jackson for assignment Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Jackson inked a contract with Detroit on July 26 and surrendered four runs in 4.2 innings before Friday's DFA. The 33-year-old previously pitched for Texas this season and briefly served as the Rangers' closer, posting a 4.11 ERA over 35 total innings. Assuming he clears waivers, Jackson will likely stay within the Tigers organization.

  • Tigers' Luke Jackson: Better in second game with Detroit

Jackson tossed two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Jackson made his Detroit debut Sunday and promptly allowed four runs while walking three batters and only retiring two. His second appearance with his new team was much more promising, however, and the righty lowered his season ERA to 4.78. Jackson still projects as a low-leverage arm with the Tigers, and he's unlikely to make a significant fantasy impact.

  • Tigers' Luke Jackson: Lands in Detroit

Jackson signed a one-year, major-league contract with the Tigers on Saturday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jackson was cut loose by the Rangers on Friday after posting a 4.11 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 35 innings with the club. It didn't take very long for the 33-year-old righty to find his next gig, however, and he'll likely begin his tenure with Detroit as a middle reliever for the major-league team.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: DFA'd by Texas

The Rangers designated Jackson for assignment Wednesday. Jackson still leads the Rangers with nine saves this season, but he has posted an uninspiring 4.11 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 24:19 K:BB over 35 innings. The right-hander is under contract at a manageable $1.5 million salary, so he could attract some interest via trade or waivers. Even if he quickly finds a home in a new organization, Jackson is unlikely to earn usage in high-leverage spots out of the bullpen, at least not right away.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Perfect for ninth save

Jackson picked up the save Sunday against the White Sox, allowing no hits or walks with one strikeout over a scoreless ninth inning. Jackson received his first save chance since May 21 as closer Robert Garcia got the day off after throwing in back-to-back games. Jackson cashed in for his ninth save of the campaign, marking his first perfect appearance in five outings. The 33-year-old owns a 3.91 ERA and an 18:11 K:BB over 23 innings in 2025.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Yields walk-off homer in blown save

Jackson (0-4) blew the save in Wednesday's 4-3 defeat to the Yankees, allowing one run on two hits in the ninth inning. Jackson gave up a walk-off home run to Jasson Dominguez, taking his second blown save of the season. The veteran right-hander has worked as Texas' primary closer to open the campaign, but his 5.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 13:8 K:BB over 14.2 innings likely loosens his grip on the gig and leaves the door open the door for the likes of Shawn Armstrong, Robert Garcia and Jacob Webb to see additional save chances in the future. Jackson missed some time with a swollen hand recently, and he's yielded six runs across his last 5.2 innings.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Retakes mound Sunday

Jackson (hand) issued a walk and struck out a batter in a scoreless inning during Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Astros. Jackson battled a swollen hand throughout the week after being hit by a comebacker May 12 against the Rockies, but he returned to the mound Sunday in a non-save situation. The right-hander didn't appear to have any lingering issues as he threw 10 of 15 pitches for strikes, and his average fastball velocity of 93.6 mph was only marginally lower than his season average. Shawn Armstrong picked up a pair of saves in his absence, but Jackson should reclaim primary closing duties now that he's healthy.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Hand still swollen

Jackson's hand is still swollen Tuesday but he's optimistic he'll be able to avoid the injured list, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jackson reportedly has a decent amount of strength and is squeezing a stress ball after getting hit on the hand by a comebacker Monday. Jacob Webb got the save after Jackson exited, but Chris Martin or Robert Garcia could also be options to get saves while Jackson is unavailable.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Hit by comebacker

Jackson was removed from Monday's game against the Rockies after being struck by a line drive, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jackson entered the matchup in a save situation, but he was unable to record an out after a line drive off the bat of Ryan McMahon forced Jackson from the game. He appeared to get hit on his right arm and walked off the field following a brief conversation with the team trainer. The club should have another update on the closer's status after further evaluation. Jacob Webb was called upon in Jackson's place and managed to register the save.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Stuck with loss

Jackson (0-3) took the loss in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to the Giants, allowing an unearned run on one hit while failing to record an out. Jackson entered in the ninth trying to preserve a 2-2 tie and send the game to extra innings. His outing lasted one pitch as Heliot Ramos reached on an infield single and then turned it into a little-league homer thanks to two throwing errors by the Rangers. It was the second loss for Jackson in his last three appearances, but he's still converted eight of nine save chances and has a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP this year.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Notches fourth save

Jackson struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his fourth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Rays. The 33-year-old righty has only delivered double-digit saves once before in his career, when he racked up 18 for Atlanta in 2019, but Jackson is well on his way to topping that total in 2025. He's converted four straight save chances to begin the campaign while posting a 5:2 K:BB in 4.1 innings, although a shaky performance in a non-save situation on Opening Day still has him saddled with a 6.23 ERA. The Rangers have other ninth-inning options if he falters, but for now Jackson appears to be following the trail blazed by Kirby Yates in last year's bullpen.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Secures third save

Jackson earned the save Wednesday in Cincinnati after allowing a hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning. The right-hander has now notched a clean save in three straight appearances since he surrendered three runs over one-third of an inning Opening Day. It'll take a bit for Jackson's ERA and WHIP to level out, but he appears to have settled in as the favorite for saves in Texas. Veteran Chris Martin, who worked the eighth inning Wednesday, is also in the mix and has converted the Rangers' only other save opportunity this year.

  • Rangers' Luke Jackson: Handed loss on Opening Day

Jackson (0-1) took the loss Thursday against the Red Sox after surrendering three runs on two hits and a walk over one-third of an inning. He struck out one. The right-hander entered for the top of the ninth inning with the game tied 2-2 and struck out Triston Casas to open the frame. Jackson then allowed a single and a walk before serving up a three-run homer to Wilyer Abreu. Jackson emerged as the apparent favorite for saves late in spring training, and though Thursday wasn't a save situation, his 2025 campaign is off to an inauspicious start. Chris Martin and Robert Garcia are also in the closer mix, and rookie Marc Church could also be involved in high-leverage spots.

  • Luke Jackson: Becomes free agent

Atlanta declined Jackson's $7 million club option for 2025 on Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Jackson will be paid a $2 million buyout and is now a free agent. The 33-year-old collected a 5.09 ERA and 59:26 K:BB across 53 relief innings between San Francisco and Atlanta in 2024.

  • Braves' Luke Jackson: Traded to Atlanta

Atlanta acquired Jackson and outfielder Jorge Soler from San Francisco on Monday in exchange for infielder Sabin Ceballos and left-hander Tyler Matzek (elbow), Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Jackson will head back to Atlanta after spending time in the organization from 2017 through 2021, including winning a World Series title in his final season with the club. The right-hander possesses an inflated 5.40 ERA and 1.43 WHIP while striking out 33 batters over 35 innings in 36 appearances with the Giants this season. Jackson will provide Atlanta with another experienced right-handed arm out of the bullpen.

  • Giants' Luke Jackson: Takes extra-inning loss

Jackson (4-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit in an inning of relief Thursday, taking an extra-inning loss versus the Cubs. Just one day after picking up a win in a relief appearance, Jackson was on the hook for the loss. He gave up a two-run home run to Ian Happ in the 10th inning, and the Giants were unable to respond. Aside from Wednesday's sharp outing, Jackson has been rough lately, allowing seven runs (six earned) over his last 3.2 inning. He has a 6.23 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB through 26 innings overall.

  • Giants' Luke Jackson: Picks up second win

Jackson (2-1) allowed a run on two hits and struck out two over one inning, earning the win Thursday over the Pirates. Jackson allowed a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the seventh inning, but the Giants pulled ahead with a five-run eighth. Jackson has been scored on in four of his last five outings, allowing multiple baserunners each time he's given up at least a run. The homer was the first he's allowed all year. Jackson is at an uninspiring 5.84 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB with two holds and three blown saves over 12.1 innings this season.

  • Giants' Luke Jackson: Collects extra-inning win

Jackson (1-1) allowed a walk and struck out two without giving up a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the extra-inning win Sunday over the Reds. Jackson was tagged for three runs in his season debut and promptly went on the injured list with a back issue. He's been sharp since his return with 8.1 scoreless innings and a 7:3 K:BB in that span. Jackson has a couple of blown saves on his ledger and remains in a low-leverage role, though he pitched the 10th inning Sunday after Camilo Doval was called upon for a four-out appearance spanning the eighth and ninth frames.
