  • Giants' Erik Miller: Moved to 60-day IL

The Giants transferred Miller (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Thursday. Miller experienced a setback with his left elbow injury last week on a rehab assignment. He would be eligible for activation from the IL in early September, but the lefty will not resume throwing for another couple weeks, so his season might very well be over.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Shut down from throwing

Miller (elbow) won't throw for two weeks before being re-evaluated, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Miller underwent an MRI this week, which showed additional left elbow inflammation. The southpaw has been sidelined since early July after suffering a left elbow sprain, and he was nearing a return to the major-league roster after making four rehab appearances with Triple-A Sacramento, but he will now remain sidelined for the foreseeable future. At this point, Miller is unlikely to be activated from the 15-day injured list until mid-September at the earliest.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Makes first rehab appearance

Miller (elbow) retired one of the five batters he faced and was charged with two runs (one earned) on three hits in his rehab appearance Friday with Triple-A Sacramento. Making his first appearance at any level since July 2, Miller exhibited some rust but wasn't hit particularly hard; all three of the hits he allowed were singles. According to Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News, the left-hander is expected to make two more rehab appearances before slotting back into the San Francisco bullpen.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Throwing live batting practice

Miller (elbow) will throw a live batting practice session Monday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. It would appear to be the first time Miller has faced hitters since he was shelved a month ago with a sprained left elbow. He's expected to require at least a couple rehab appearances before rejoining the Giants' bullpen, setting Miller up to return around mid-August if all goes well.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Ramping up in bullpen sessions

Miller (elbow) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on Tuesday, per MLB.com. Miller ramped up his intensity after throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session Saturday. The left-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list July 5 due to a sprained left elbow. He's on track to return in the second or third week of August and is expected to require at least two tune-up games before rejoining the big-league club, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Completes bullpen session

Miller (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Miller said he felt good after the workout, which featured all fastballs thrown at about 80 percent, and the expectation is that he'll be ready to incorporate all of his pitches at a higher level of intensity in his next bullpen session Tuesday. The southpaw will need a rehab assignment as he works his way back from an elbow sprain, with the Giants anticipating his return from the 15-day injured list to come in the second or third week of August.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Looking at five-week absence

Miller (elbow) is optimistic about returning from the 15-day injured list in five weeks, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to a left elbow sprain, and while the initial five-week timeline may be a bit ambitious, Miller isn't worried about bouncing back from the injury, per Rubin. The southpaw was in the midst of putting together a strong 2025 campaign, posting a 1.50 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 22 strikeouts across 30.0 innings prior to landing on the shelf.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Scoreless outing Friday

Miller tossed two-thirds of an inning in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Red Sox, allowing no runs while striking out one. After Sean Hjelle gave up a home run and a single in the sixth inning, Miller entered with one out and retired the next two batters to end the frame. The left-hander threw five of his 10 pitches for strikes. Miller has yet to allow a run in June and now owns a 1.07 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18:18 K:BB with nine holds across 25.1 innings in 31 games this season.

Miller entered the game in the eighth inning and recorded his seventh hold of the season, throwing 12 of his 18 pitches for strikes. The left-hander gave up a single and a double before being pulled in favor of closer Camilo Doval. Miller hasn't been charged with a run since May 11. Miller entered the game in the sixth inning with a 4-3 lead and was tagged with his second blown save of the season after a lackluster performance. The left-hander surrendered three singles and threw just six of his 12 pitches for strikes before being pulled. Miller allowed a single while racking up a season-high mark in strikeouts and throwing 11 of his 18 pitches for strikes. • Giants' Erik Miller: Makes spring debut

Miller (illness) worked around a hit batter and a base hit while recording three strikeouts over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Royals in Cactus League play. The lefty reliever made his spring debut Saturday, after he had previously been delayed due to finger numbness and then an illness. With Miller returning to action Saturday with an impressive appearance, the missed time shouldn't affect his chances of securing a spot in San Francisco's Opening Day bullpen. Over his 73 appearances with San Francisco in 2024, Miller covered 67.1 innings and registered a 3.88 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 87:38 K:BB while collecting four wins and 14 holds.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Dealing with illness

Miller (finger) didn't throw his scheduled live bullpen session Saturday due to an illness, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Miller has been battling numbness in a finger on his left (throwing) hand recently, though that isn't what held him back Saturday. The 27-year-old southpaw will take a day or two to recover before continuing to work toward making his spring debut.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Stuck with loss Monday

Miller (3-3) allowed a run on a hit and a walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning Monday, taking the loss versus the Dodgers. Miller left runners on the corners in the eighth inning before getting the hook and Randy Rodriguez then gave up an RBI single to Teoscar Hernandez to put the decisive run on Miller's line. That ended the 26-year-old southpaw's scoreless streak at 10 innings. For the year, Miller has a 3.43 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB while adding 11 holds and three blown saves through 44.2 innings. With the Giants' rotation getting close to full health, it's likely Miller spends most of his time in a setup role after serving as an opener nine times earlier in the campaign.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Opening pitcher in bullpen day

Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Miller will serve as an opener for the eighth time this season, and he's fared well in the role thus far, giving up just one earned run in 7.2 innings across his first seven starts. • Giants' Erik Miller: Draws opener duties again Monday

Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Monday's game against the Cubs, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. • Giants' Erik Miller: Opening Wednesday's game

Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Miller is operating as an opener for the sixth time this season. On the previous five occasions, Miller has never been asked to record more than five outs, so he's unlikely to remain in the game for more than two innings. Spencer Howard is expected to work in bulk relief behind Miller.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Opening Sunday's contest

Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Angels, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Miller will draw the opener assignment for the fifth time this season after the Giants had previously listed Kyle Harrison as the starter for Sunday's contest before placing him on the 15-day injured list with an ankle sprain just a few hours before the 4:05 p.m. ET opening pitch. Miller hasn't been tasked with recording more than five outs in any of his previous turns as an opener, so he shouldn't be expected to handle more than two innings before he turns the game over to the bullpen. Spencer Bivens was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday and could be an option to cover multiple innings behind Miller.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Picks up first big-league win

Miller (1-2) allowed a hit and struck out two over one scoreless inning to earn the win over the Rangers on Saturday. Starter Spencer Howard came up one out shy of qualifying for the win. That left the decision to Miller, who got the last out of the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to contribute his part of 4.1 scoreless innings by the Giants' bullpen. Miller is on a 6.1-inning scoreless streak and has pitched to a 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 38:15 K:BB with 10 holds and two blown saves through 30 innings this season. He's also opened four games and continues to operate in whatever role is needed of him from game to game.

He's now worked as an opener on three occasions this season but has appeared 27 times. The 26-year-old owns a 4.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 33:15 K:BB in 25.2 innings.
