  • Falcons' Kenjon Barner: Electrifying day on punt returns

Barner collected 46 yards on four punt return attempts and 44 yards on two kick returns during Sunday's 28-12 loss to the Vikings.

Barner made a dent nearly every time he touched the ball on punt returns Sunday, picking up gains of 11, 12, five and 18 yards in his regular-season debut for the Falcons. He'll face a challenging special teams matchup in Week 2 going up against his former team on Sunday Night Football, with the Eagles allowing the sixth-fewest yards per punt return (6.3) last year.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

    Bengals' Joe Mixon: Considered day-to-day

Coach Zac Taylor said he views Mixon (ankle) as day-to-day, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.

Mixon got good news from Monday's MRI, confirming his ankle sprain isn't too severe. The Bengals hope to have him ready for Week 2 against the 49ers, following an early exit from the season opener in Seattle. Giovani Bernard is the next man up in Cincinnati's backfield, followed by recent acquisition Samaje Perine.

  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Heavy workload, modest production

Edwards had 17 carries for 56 yards Sunday against the Dolphins.

The second-year running back actually led the team in carries, but he was far less efficient than Mark Ingram, who racked up 107 yards and two scores on just 14 rushes. Even so, the fact that Edwards saw a heavy workload, particularly compared to rookie Justice Hill's seven carries, shows that he is the clear No. 2 back in this offense. And Hill's 3.9 YPC likely won't be enough to change that heading into Week 2 against Arizona. Edwards also shouldn't be expected to lead the Ravens in runs on a week-to-week basis, though, so it's possible that Sunday will be Edwards' high-water mark in that category this season.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Could play Week 2

MRI results on Mixon's ankle came back "all good", and the running back may have a shot to play Sunday against the 49ers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

In any case, Mixon is not expected to require an extended absence. If he ends up out or limited Week 2, however, Giovani Bernard would be in line to see added work, with Samaje Perine on hand as well.

  • Patriots' Brandon Bolden: One carry Week 1

Bolden logged just one of a possible 70 snaps on offense in Sunday's 33-3 win over the Steelers.

Bolden, who recorded a seven-yard carry on that play, did make his mark, however, by logging 16 special teams snaps, which included a pair of kick returns for 35 yards. Bolden's prowess as a special-teamer will keep him on the Patriots' game-day roster most weeks, but he remains behind Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead in the team's backfield pecking order.

  • Mike Boone RB | MIA

Vikings' Mike Boone: Just two snaps Sunday

Boone played just two snaps on offense in Sunday's win over Atlanta but did not have a carry or target.

Despite being a star in the preseason for the second consecutive year, Boone will be relegated to a deep reserve role. He's behind Ameer Abdullah in the battle for the No. 3 running back at this point.

  • Ameer Abdullah RB | JAC

Vikings' Ameer Abdullah: Gets just two carries

Abdullah had two carries for eight yards in Sunday's win over Atlanta.

Abdullah played just four snaps on offense in a game where the Vikings dominated by running the ball (172 yards rushing), so he's not going to be a big part of the running game. He does appear as the No. 3 running back since Mike Boone played just two snaps and didn't get a carry. Abdullah's biggest impact will be on special teams as a returner.

  • Nick Bawden RB | HOU

Lions' Nick Bawden: One target in season opener

Bawden was targeted once but did not record a catch during Sunday's 27-27 tie with the Cardinals.

Bawden logged a quarter of the offensive snaps and over 70 percent of available special-teams snaps, but he simply isn't in a role that will allow for consistent offensive production.

  • Buccaneers' Dare Ogunbowale: Figures in as pass catcher

Ogunbowale brought in four of five targets for 33 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-17 loss to the 49ers on Sunday. He did not log a carry.

Ogunbowale was in on 27 plays from scrimmage overall and another 15 on special teams. Three of the third-year running back's four catches came in the hurry-up offense on the Buccaneers' final possession, as Ogunbowale essentially filled the exact role he was projected for behind Ronald Jones and Peyton Barber coming into the season. While he'll figure in for an occasional carry as well in coming games, his overall involvement in the offense figures to be modest as long as his aforementioned pair of teammates are healthy.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

    Jeff Wilson: Rejoining roster soon

Wilson likely will be promoted from the 49ers practice squad after Tevin Coleman suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay, Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

It isn't clear if the transaction will happen Monday or later in the week. Either way, Wilson will slot in behind Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert in the San Francisco backfield for a Week 2 game in Cincinnati. Coleman is expected to miss multiple games.
