  • Jake Moody K | WAS

    49ers' Jake Moody: Strains quad

Moody strained his right quadriceps and won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Chargers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

The rookie is day-to-day, but an injury to his kicking leg could be a problem even if it isn't too serious. Moody had a rough summer after being selected in the third round in April, missing two field-goal attempts and a PAT in his two preseason games. Zane Gonzalez will handle all the kicks Friday night.

  • Panthers' Eddy Pineiro: Won't face competition

Pineiro (groin) kicked during practice Wednesday, but his longest field-goal attempt was from 43 yards out, David Newton of ESPN reports.

Pineiro isn't known for having a big leg, but his range being limited to 43 yards Wednesday suggests he's taking it easy as he works his way back from a groin injury. In encouraging news, Pineiro said he felt good Wednesday, and Panthers head coach Frank Reich affirmed that the team doesn't intend to bring in competition at kicker. It's unclear if Pineiro will be available for Friday's preseason finale against the Lions, but barring a setback, he'll be kicking in the Sept. 10 regular-season opener against the Falcons.

  • Mike Badgley K | IND

Titans' Michael Badgley: Slated to kick for Tennessee

The Titans signed Badgley on Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.

After being let go by the Commanders, Badgley -- who spent time with both the Lions and Bears last year -- has quickly resurfaced and now appears poised to start the 2023 season as the Titans' kicker. Meanwhile, Caleb Shudak and Trey Wolff, who had been competing for the assignment, have been waived by Tennessee.

  • Jason Myers K | SEA

    Seahawks' Jason Myers: Drills 57-yarder

Myers hit two of three field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries in Saturday's 22-14 preseason win over the Cowboys.

Myers was perfect in the first preseason game with three extra points and a 35-yard field goal. He subsequently hit a 36-yarder and a 57-yarder on Saturday before missing a 43-yarder wide left in the closing minutes. The 32-year-old is coming off a fantastic season where he hit 34 of 37 field-goal tries (92 percent) and 41 of 42 extra-point attempts (98 percent), and he was rewarded with a new four-year contract in January.

  • Buccaneers' Chase McLaughlin: Lone kicker on roster

Tampa Bay waived Rodrigo Blankenship on Monday, leaving McLaughlin as the team's only kicker, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.

McLaughlin and Blankenship had been competing to succeed Ryan Succop, who the Bucs let go in March. Assuming no other kickers are brought in by the team, McLaughlin is slated to handle the Week 1 assignment, with his fantasy upside this coming season tied to how the team's offense fares while being helmed by either Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask.

  • Panthers' Eddy Pineiro: Still recovering from injury

Pineiro (groin) should be ready Week 1, according to head coach Frank Reich, and he could still kick some this week, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

Pineiro has been dealing with the injury since at least Aug. 8 and hasn't appeared in either of the team's two preseason contests. In his absence, the team signed Matthew Wright, who has been handling kicking duties since. However, as long as he is healthy for the season opener against the Falcons, Pineiro should remain the starting placekicker for the Panthers.

  • Packers' Anders Carlson: Perfect in second exhibition game

Carlson made a 52-yard field goal and both extra points he attempted in Saturday's 21-17 preseason loss to the Patriots.

Carlson missed a couple extra points in Green Bay's exhibition opener, but he bounced back in fine fashion, making every kick he attempted Saturday -- including a field goal from beyond 50 yards. The Packers have stood by Carlson despite some accuracy issues during training camp, and barring a rough night in the preseason finale, the rookie is set to open the regular season as the team's kicker.

  • Tanner Brown K | ATL

Rams' Tanner Brown: Nails lone field goal

Brown connected on a 25-yard field-goal attempt and made both of his extra-point attempts during Saturday's 34-17 preseason loss to the Raiders.

While a chip shot field goal and two PATs aren't exactly world-moving in terms of Brown's hold on the starting kicker position, he also didn't hurt his cause, and the Rams didn't opt to bring in any outside kickers to compete after the rookie missed a 46-yard attempt last week. With just three weeks until the Rams' opening game against the Seahawks, it seems increasingly likely that the Rams will roll with Brown as their starter in lieu of bringing anyone in to vie for the role.

  • Joey Slye K | TEN

Commanders' Joey Slye: Likely starter for Washington

Slye is the only kicker on the Commanders' roster after the team released Michael Badgley on Sunday.

Slye appeared in all 17 games for Washington last season after he originally joined the team in November of 2021. The Commanders' starting kicker job appeared to be up for grabs this preseason after the Commanders signed Badgley in May, though it looks like Slye did enough to retain this role instead. The 27-year-old converted 37 of his 42 field-goal attempts and went 33-for-38 on PATs over 23 regular-season contests with Washington, and he's entering the final season of a two-year contract.

  • B.T. Potter K | PIT

Steelers' B.T. Potter: Doesn't play Saturday

Potter didn't play during Saturday's 27-15 preseason win over the Bills.

Potter served as the Steelers' placekicker during last weekend's preseason opener and was perfect on five kicks, but veteran Chris Boswell had his opportunity to shine Saturday and was also perfect on five kicks. Potter signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent earlier this offseason, and the battle to serve as the team's starting placekicker in 2023 could come down to the wire.
