Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Eclipses 200 scrimmage yards in win

Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 25 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns while bringing in five of six targets for 56 yards in the Detroit Lions' 45-21 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.Gibbs, and the Lions' offense as a whole, had a somewhat quiet start to the game, but the star running back soon began breaking through against the Cardinals defense and ultimately turned in another dominant performance. Gibbs recorded his first touchdown from one yard out early in the second quarter and went on to add a three-yard scoring rush with just over five minutes remaining to seal the high-scoring victory. Gibbs' finished with his second-highest rushing yardage total of the season, and the multi-touchdown tally on the ground was already his third of the campaign. The 2023 first-round pick is up to 504 rushing yards, 243 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns heading into a Week 7 divisional home matchup against the Packers on Sunday, Oct. 25 following a Week 6 bye.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Surprisingly stymied by Panthers

Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 15 times for 46 yards and a touchdown and brought in four of seven targets for 31 yards in the Detroit Lions' 32-26 loss to the Panthers on Sunday night.Gibbs' season-low rushing yardage total was particularly surprising considering no team had allowed more rushing yards to running backs than Carolina coming into Week 4. Gibbs also wasn't able to make up for the lack of rushing production with his work as a pass catcher, but he at least added his fifth rushing touchdown of the season on a one-yard run late in the first half. Gibbs and the Lions will look to bounce back in a Week 5 road matchup against the Cardinals next Sunday.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Makes three more trips to end zone Sunday

Jahmyr Gibbs carried the ball 20 times for 99 yards and two touchdowns while catching seven of eight targets for 65 yards and a third TD in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Jets. That's now six trips to the end zone in three games to begin the season for Gibbs, who ran it in from 17 yards and one yard before hauling in a game-winning 11-yard toss from Jared Goff inside the final two minutes of the fourth quarter. Gibbs has added 463 scrimmage yards to his ledger as well, more than earning his spot at the top of preseason draft boards. He'll look to keep rolling in a Week 4 road clash against the Panthers.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Eclipses 100 total yards in loss

Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 16 times for 52 yards and brought in six of eight targets for 61 yards and a touchdown in the Detroit Lions' 41-31 loss to the Bills on Thursday.Gibbs managed a 16-yard run among his 16 carries, yet he generally found running room at a premium over the course of the high-scoring loss. Game script also limited the star running back's opportunities on the ground somewhat, but Gibbs did make up for it to an extent with his work as a receiver. The fourth-year pro tied for second in receptions and also was the runner-up in receiving yards for the Lions on the night, and he added his first receiving touchdown of the season when he brought in an 11-yard laser from Jared Goff with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. Gibbs should have a chance at reverting to a larger workload on the ground in a Week 3 home matchup against the Jets on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Huge effort in Week 1 OT win

Jahmyr Gibbs carried the ball 29 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns and caught all five of his targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 31-30 overtime win over the Saints. He did lose a fumble, but there wasn't much to criticize about Gibbs' performance otherwise. The star running back opened the scoring with a one-yard plunge in the first quarter, then added another one-yard TD on the Detroit Lions' first possession of the second half. Gibbs set a career high with 320 touches in 2025 (243 carries and 77 catches), but he could be headed for even bigger volume this season with David Montgomery no longer in Detroit to siphon away reps. Gibbs will look to keep rolling in Week 2 on the road against the Bills.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Reels off 59-yard run in final camp practice

Jahmyr Gibbs had a strong day in the Detroit Lions' final practice of training camp Thursday, most notably running for 59- and 16-yard touchdowns during the session, Tim Twentyman of the team's official site reports. After being contained on the first two of the first-team offense's eight drives on the day, Gibbs delivered his biggest gain of the day on the Lions' third possession. On the second play of that drive, Gibbs followed a block from right guard Tate Ratledge, then found daylight while bouncing out to the outside and raced past cornerback Avonte Maddox for a 59-yard house call. He then finished practice with his second touchdown of the day, taking a fourth-and-1 pitch to the outside and following a Penei Sewell block to beat multiple defenders to the pylon. The two scoring jaunts were demonstrative of Gibbs' trademark explosiveness in open space, but now that David Montgomery is in Houston, the Lions are likely to turn to Gibbs to add more work to his plate in the form of increased usage in goal-line situations and as a runner on early downs. Detroit signed Isiah Pacheco this offseason with the goal of having him take on some of those functions that Montgomery had handled, but Pacheco won't be available until Week 5 at the earliest while he recovers from a back injury as well as an MCL sprain.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Sits out preseason opener

Jahmyr Gibbs was held out of Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals. The star running back was among a number of key skill players rested by the Detroit Lions on Thursday, a group that also included QB Jared Goff, WRs Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, as well as TE Sam LaPorta. Since he signed a lucrative three-year contract extension with the team last week, Gibbs -- who had previously reportedly been dealing with a minor back issue -- has been practicing, and is thus slated to reprise his role as the clear-cut top option in Detroit's backfield, and in turn maintain his standing as an elite fantasy option ahead of the 2026 regular season.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Lands three-year extension

The Detroit Lions and Jahmyr Gibbs (back) agreed to terms on a three-year extension Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The $67.5 million deal can be worth up to $75.75 million and includes $51.5 million guaranteed, barely surpassing Bijan Robinson's extension (three years, $66.75 million and $51 million guaranteed) with the Falcons from earlier this week to make the former the highest-paid running back in the NFL. Gibbs has racked up 3,768 yards from scrimmage and 38 touchdowns in 34 regular-season games over the last two campaigns, so the investment made in him by Detroit is warranted. He'll continue to operate as the engine of the Lions offense for the foreseeable future.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Closing in on three-year deal?

Jahmyr Gibbs (back) and the Detroit Lions have made substantial progress on a three-year contract extension that would make him the highest-paid running back in the league, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports Thursday.According to Schultz, a deal could get done as soon as Thursday. Gibbs has been limited to conditioning work in practice amid ongoing contract negotiations with the Lions, but the star running back could begin practicing as soon as a deal is reached, assuming his minor back issue is behind him. In order to become the NFL's highest-paid running back, Gibbs would need to exceed the three-year, $66.75 million contract Bijan Robinson signed with the Falcons on Tuesday, which included $51 million guaranteed.

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Working off to side Thursday

Jahmyr Gibbs (back) took part in the Detroit Lions' walkthrough and stretch Thursday before taking part in conditioning work on a side field during practice, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. After Gibbs arrived at the Lions' facility in full uniform, he appeared poised to take part in his first practice of training camp, but he's apparently not ready to get involved in drills just yet. Gibbs is managing what appears to be a minor back issue, though his desire for a long-term contract extension may also be a factor in keeping him from practicing. With the Falcons' Bijan Robinson and Colts' Jonathan Taylor securing new contracts this week, Gibbs could be next in line to put pen to paper on a new deal.
