Bears' Caleb Williams: Plays one series Saturday
Caleb Williams completed two of five passes for 28 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Chicago Bears' 27-9 preseason loss to the Bengals on Saturday. The third-year signal-caller made his preseason debut and got his night started with back-to-back completions to Rome Odunze and Roschon Johnson, although the Bears accepted an illegal contact penalty that wiped out the latter play. Williams subsequently hit Colston Loveland for 10 yards during a possession that culminated in a Cairo Santos field goal following three straight incompletions. The uneven cameo appearance may well represent the extent of Williams' preseason action ahead of a Week 1 road matchup against the Panthers on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Not in line to play Saturday

Bears' Caleb Williams: Set to operate without Burden
Caleb Williams will be without Luther Burden (groin) for the entirety of the preseason, but the Chicago Bears believe that the second-year wide receiver will be available for Week 1 at Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 13, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.Williams is entering his second season under head coach Ben Johnson and his third NFL campaign overall, and his No. 2 option at wide receiver Luther Burden just suffered a groin injury Saturday that will sideline him for the entirety of the preseason. The quarterback completed 53 passes to Burden for 718 yards and two touchdowns over 15 regular-season contests and two postseason games this past season. Williams has substantial rapport with WR1 Rome Odunze, but he will now have to lean on offseason addition Kalif Raymond, third-round pick Zavion Thomas (knee) and second-year pro Jahdae Walker at practice in Burden's absence.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Poised to make leap in 2026
Caleb Williams appears poised to make a leap in his second season with coach Ben Johnson in 2026, Alyssa Barbieri of Chicago Bears Wire reports.Williams was a standout during the offseason program after he took multiple steps forward under Johnson's tutelage last season. While his completion percentage dipped from 62.5 percent as a rookie to 58.1 percent in 2025, Williams' touchdowns (27), touchdown rate (4.8 percent), adjusted yards per attempt (7.3) and yards per completion (11.9) all saw significant boosts. He was also sacked just 24 times after absorbing a league-high 68 sacks as a 2024 rookie. Williams certainly has MVP aspirations headed into his third pro season at just 24 years old.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Comeback attempt falls short in OT
Caleb Williams completed 23 of 42 pass attempts for 257 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions while taking five carries for 40 yards in Sunday's 20-17 overtime loss in the divisional round to the Rams.Williams found himself in familiar territory in Sunday's divisional-round matchup when he was staring at a deficit in the fourth quarter that required him to pull off a heroic comeback. The sophomore signal-caller accomplished what appeared impossible when he scrambled backward 10-plus yards before chucking a prayer to the end zone on fourth down that TE Cole Kmet came down with to send the contest to overtime. The magic ran out for Williams and the Chicago Bears in the extra period when Rams safety Kamren Curl laid out for an athletic interception that ultimately ended Chicago's playoff run. The 23-year-old Williams made strides from the pocket in his first year under head coach Ben Johnson, amassing 3,942 passing yards with 27 touchdowns to seven interceptions across 17 starts in the regular season. The USC product struggled with turnovers in two postseason contests (four TDs to five INTs), something he will look to clean up in future postseason appearances, but Williams' overall performance has the future looking bright in Chicago.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Spearheads historic comeback
Caleb Williams completed 24 of 48 passes for 361 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding four rushes for 20 yards in the Chicago Bears' 31-27 wild-card win over the Packers on Saturday. He also threw a two-point conversion pass and committed a fumble recovered by Chicago.Williams started and finished strong, with the latter helping him and the Bears overcome some forgettable moments in between. The second-year signal-caller led a marathon 16-play drive that absorbed just under eight minutes of the first quarter and culminated in a field goal that opened the scoring, but Williams went on to throw an interception on his second possession that eventually led to a Packers touchdown. Chicago's other two first-half possessions ended on downs, and his second pick late in the third quarter short-circuited a surefire scoring opportunity since it came at the Packers' two-yard line. However, Williams would come to life late, leading a trio of touchdown drives and capping off the latter two with scoring tosses of eight and 25 yards to Olamide Zaccheaus and DJ Moore, respectively. Williams also connected with Colston Loveland for a two-point conversion after the first TD, and by night's end, he'd set the franchise's new single-game playoff passing yardage record. Williams and his teammates will now gear up for a divisional-round matchup next weekend against a to-be-determined opponent.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Comes on late in Week 18 loss
Caleb Williams completed 20 of 33 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while rushing once for one yard in the Chicago Bears' 19-16 loss to the Lions on Sunday. He also threw a two-point conversion pass.Williams couldn't lead the Bears to any points in the first three quarters, but he helped Chicago's offense come alive in the fourth to make things interesting. Williams particularly had his connection with rookie tight end Colston Loveland clicking, as the latter was on the receiving end of 10 of Williams' completions, 91 receiving yards and one of his two touchdowns, from one yard out. Williams also connected with Jahdae Walker from 25 yards out early in the fourth quarter, finishing with a pair of TD tosses for the fifth straight game to close out the campaign. Williams undeniably took a step forward in his first season under the tutelage of head coach Ben Johnson while throwing for 3,942 yards and posting a 27:7 TD:INT, but he'll need to achieve more quarter-to-quarter consistency for the Bears to succeed in the postseason beginning with next weekend's home wild-card matchup against the Packers.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Throws for 330 yards on SNF
Caleb Williams completed 25 of 42 pass attempts for 330 yards and two touchdowns while adding 18 rushing yards on five attempts in Sunday's 42-38 loss to San Francisco.Williams was engaged in a classic shootout with 49ers QB Brock Purdy (303 yards, five total TDs) with both signal-callers cracking the 300-yard mark while tossing multiple touchdowns. For Williams, it was the first time through 16 starts in 2025 in which he eclipsed 300 passing yards in a single game. The improving sophomore had an opportunity to throw a third score and win the game in the closing moments of Sunday Night Football, only to watch his pass come up a yard short of a fully extended Luther Burden (leg) in the end zone as time expired. Williams has now thrown multiple touchdown passes in four consecutive starts with an improved yardage total in each game. His recent hot streak coupled with a soft matchup against the Lions makes Williams a strong fantasy play in Week 18.

Bears' Caleb Williams: Leads improbable comeback
Caleb Williams completed 19 of 34 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 22-16 overtime win over the Packers. He added three rushes for 30 yards. This game followed a similar script to the first contest between the Packers and Chicago Bears, though Williams completed the improbable comeback this time around. He attempted only nine passes in a disjointed first half, but he led touchdown drives on consecutive possessions to end the game, which Williams concluded with passing scores of six and 46 yards. He was able to hit on big plays throughout the contest, as his five completions of at least 20 yards matched his season high and led to his highest yardage total as a passer since Week 9. Williams has also recorded multiple touchdowns through the air in four of his last five games after doing so only three times in his first 10 contests.
