Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Ruled out Monday

Edey (ankle) completed a full on-court workout Monday but won't play in the Grizzlies' preseason game against the Hawks, Michael Wallace of the Grizzlies' official site reports.

As expected, Edey will be held out of the Grizzlies' preseason opener, and it's not yet clear whether he'll play at all during the preseason. However, the big man is trending toward suiting up for Opening Night after undergoing surgeries on his left elbow and ankle in March.

  • Paul Reed C | DET

Pistons' Paul Reed: Starting preseason opener

Reed will start Monday's preseason game against the Suns, Eric Vincent of ClutchPoints.com reports.

With Jalen Duren (rest) out, Reed will enter the starting lineup in Detroit's preseason opener. The 27-year-old is expected to operate as the Pistons' primary backup behind Duren in 2026-27.

  • Quinten Post C | MEM

Grizzlies' Quinten Post: Draws start in preseason opener

Post will start Monday's preseason game against the Hawks, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Zach Edey (ankle) isn't expected to play Monday, opening the door for Post to step into the starting five. The big man figures to compete with Isaiah Stewart for playing time behind Edey ahead of the regular season.

  • Zach Edey C | MEM

Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Not starting Monday

Edey is not in the starting lineup for Monday's preseason game against the Hawks, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Edey is not expected to play in Monday's exhibition, and it's unclear if he'll suit up at all for the preseason, but he is expected to be ready for opening night. Edey was active at training camp, participating in all practices and 5-on-5 work, and he's reportedly moving around better than ever.

  • 76ers' Ariel Hukporti: Starting Monday

Hukporti will start in Monday's preseason game against the Knicks.

Hukporti is getting the start with Joel Embiid (rest) sitting this one out, but he'll return to a reserve role once the regular season gets underway. Hukporti is not expected to be a consistent part of the 76ers' rotation.

  • Hawks' Kingston Flemings: Gets starting nod in preseason opener

Flemings will start Monday's preseason game against the Grizzlies, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.

With CJ McCollum (nose) unavailable, Flemings will draw the start in his preseason debut. The rookie will be joined in the first unit by Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu.

  • 76ers' Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: Starting Monday

Caldwell-Pope will start in Monday's preseason opener against the Knicks.

Joining Caldwell-Pope in the first unit for Monday's exhibition will be VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, Dean Wade and Ariel Hukporti. Caldwell-Pope will likely receive some spot starts throughout the year when some of the other vets need a night off, but when the team is at full strength, he'll be operating in a reserve role.

  • Dean Wade PF | PHI

76ers' Dean Wade: Starting preseason opener

Wade will start Monday's preseason game against the Knicks.

LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are all sitting out the preseason opener for rest purposes, opening the door for Wade to enter the first unit. He'll be joined in the starting five by Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ariel Hukporti.

  • Max Strus SG | LAC

Clippers' Max Strus: Will be re-evaluated in four weeks

Strus has been diagnosed with a partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot and he will be re-evaluated in four weeks, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com reports.

Plantar fascia injuries can be tricky to recover from, with the only remedy typically being prolonged rest, so don't be surprised if Strus' absence extends well beyond this initial four-week window. With Strus now set to miss at least the first few weeks of the season, and Bradley Beal (knee) uncertain for opening night, Keaton Wagler could be thrust into the first unit sooner than expected.

  • Jazian Gortman PG | WAS

    Jazian Gortman: Waived Monday

The Wizards waived Gortman on Monday.

Gortman inked a training camp deal with the Wizards on Oct. 2, but he wasn't expected to make the regular-season roster. Gortman will likely now head on over to Washington's G League affiliate.
