Edwards ended with 45 points (16-29 FG, 9-17 3Pt, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block across 33 minutes in Wednesday's 131-106 victory over Miami. Edwards was dominant Wednesday, setting a new franchise Opening Night scoring record to lead the Timberwolves to a victory to begin the 2026-27 campaign. The 2020 No. 1 overall pick averaged a career-best 28.8 points along with 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals over 35.0 minutes per contest in 2025-26. However, he appeared in only 61 games, marking the first season of his career with fewer than 72 appearances. Edwards has MVP potential, and while he'll face heavy competition for the award, he could at least be a finalist at the end of the year, assuming he stays healthy.

Edwards (rest) is expected to play in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Heat. The Timberwolves rested most of their projected regular-season rotation Wednesday, though Edwards should be back in action Wednesday. The star shooting guard appeared in four games this preseason, averaging 19.8 points, 2.3 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 steals across 22.6 minutes per contest.

Edwards (rest) won't play in Friday's preseason finale against the Bulls, Chuck Swirsky of the Bulls Radio Network reports. Edwards, Rudy Gobert, LaMelo Ball and Ayo Dosunmu all appear to be resting Friday. Edwards should be good to go for the regular-season opener against the Heat on Wednesday.

Edwards ended with 20 points (5-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 9-9 FT), three assists and two steals over 28 minutes in Wednesday's 128-106 preseason loss to the Pistons. Edwards had trouble finding the net Wednesday. However, he has been known to have occasional shooting slumps throughout his career, so his performance against Detroit shouldn't be a cause for concern. The 2020 No. 1 overall pick had his best year in 2025-26, averaging 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals across 35.0 minutes, though he appeared in fewer than 72 regular-season games (61) for the first time since entering the NBA.

Edwards closed with 26 points (8-16 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 5-7 FT), three rebounds, three assists and one steal across 25 minutes in Monday's 122-104 preseason win over the Knicks. Edwards returned from a one-game absence for rest purposes and looked fantastic, knocking down a game-high five triples en route to finishing as the game's leading scorer. The star guard has scored in double figures in all three of his preseason appearances, though Monday marked his heaviest workload yet, surpassing the 20-minute mark while also reaching 20-plus points for the first time.
