Simmons underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair a torn right Achilles tendon, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports. Simmons had a quality preseason, averaging 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists over 17.4 minutes per contest (two games). The 30-year-old was on track to suit up for the Kings on opening night, though those plans were halted after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice. Now, Simmons will focus on rehab. However, it's unknown what the future holds regarding his career in the NBA.

Simmons suffered a season-ending right Achilles tear during practice Sunday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Simmons was seemingly poised for a comeback campaign after being out of the league following the 2024-25 season, but his return will be delayed due to a suspected Achilles tear suffered during practice. A heartbreaking development for the 30-year-old pro, who was performing at a high level throughout the preseason and expected to start on Opening Night. His injury figures to impact the Kings' offensive plan, likely resulting in more ball-handling responsibilities for rookie Darius Acuff.

Simmons amassed 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal in 26 minutes in Friday's 126-97 preseason loss to the Spurs. Simmons drew the starter in the finale after scoring seven points in nine minutes off the bench in his only other appearance. The former No. 1 overall pick sat out all of 2025-26 before signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Kings in September, and he's expected to back up Darius Acuff at point guard. It seemed Simmons had all but exhausted his chances to make an impact at this level, but he'll get another chance to make a difference in Sacramento.

Simmons ended with 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal across 26 minutes in Friday's 126-97 preseason loss to San Antonio. Simmons had a productive game to end the preseason, narrowly missing a triple-double. The 30-year-old has appeared in 383 regular-season games for the 76ers, Nets and Clippers throughout his career, averaging 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.5 steals over 31.1 minutes per contest. Simmons appears to be in fantastic shape, and while he isn't an efficient shooter, he is an all-around producer when healthy.

Simmons (rest) is available for Friday's preseason finale against San Antonio, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports. Simmons will return from a one-game absence for rest purposes. He's expected to open the regular season as a member of Sacramento's starting five.
