Soroka (shoulder) allowed one earned run on one hit and no walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Iowa on Thursday.

Soroka was initially scheduled to make the rehab outing Wednesday, but it was instead pushed to Thursday. He allowed a solo home run to Jack Suwinski (groin) but otherwise looked sharp while throwing 38 pitches. He should be in line to return from the injured list in short order but likely won't be ready for a full starter's workload immediately upon rejoining the Cubs.

The Blue Jays reinstated Manoah (elbow) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.

The Blue Jays have five starters that are healthy in their rotation as of Thursday, and Manoah will not be joining them as a sixth man at this time. If he does not rejoin the big-league club in 2025, he should have a path back into the rotation in 2026 with Shane Bieber holding a player option while Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt are set to become free agents. Manoah had a 3.09 ERA with a 18:12 K:BB in 23.1 innings across five games for Triple-A Buffalo during his rehab assignment, which is where he is set to continue to pitch. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays designated Orelvis Martinez (undisclosed) for assignment Thursday.

Smith (6-7) earned the win Thursday over the Rays, allowing four hits and a walk across 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out four.

It's the third win in four starts for Smith, who's posted a 2.25 ERA with a 0.71 WHIP in that span (24 innings). Overall, the rookie right-hander sports a 3.78 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and 122:53 K:BB in 26 starts (131 innings) this season. Smith will look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Orioles.

Javier (1-3) took the loss Thursday against Toronto, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

Javier got off to a rocky start Thursday, allowing two runs in the opening inning before giving up a leadoff homer to Davis Schneider in the second. Javier would eventually settle in and hold the Jays to one run over his final four frames, though he'd ultimately come away with the loss in a 6-0 defeat. In six starts since rejoining Houston's rotation, the 28-year-old Javier's posted a 4.78 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB across 26.1 innings. He's currently scheduled to face the Rangers at home in his next outing.

Gausman (10-10) earned the win in a complete-game shutout of the Astros on Thursday, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out nine.

It was a spectacular performance from Gausman, who held the Astros to a pair of singles while throwing exactly 100 pitches in his first complete game since July of 2024. The 34-year-old Gausman has been rolling of late, giving up just two runs over 24 innings in his last three starts, posting a 24:2 K:BB in that span. His ERA is down to 3.44 on the year with a 1.00 WHIP and 171 strikeouts through 29 starts (177.2 innings). Gausman is currently lined up to face the Rays on the road in his next outing.

Povich did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

After giving up a two-out run in the first inning, Povich managed to hold Pittsburgh to just one additional tally over his final 4.2 frames, which came on an Alexander Canario homer in the third. It's been an up-and-down year overall for Povich, though he's posted a respectable 4.43 ERA in his last eight appearances (40.2 innings) while striking out 45 in that span. Povich is tentatively in line to face the White Sox on the road his next time out.

Oviedo did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Orioles, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Oviedo's 5.2 innings marked a season high in five starts since rejoining the Pirates in August. The right-hander has yet to allow more than two runs in an outing, posting a 2.81 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB across 25.2 innings overall. Oviedo's currently lined up to face the Cubs at home in his next outing.

The Marlins activated Weathers (lat) from the 60-day injured list Thursday to start Thursday against the Nationals.

Weathers will make his return to the Marlins' rotation for his first big-league start since June 7. The left-hander has been limited to only five starts in the majors this season, first missing time due to a forearm strain and more recently a lat strain. Weathers threw 68 pitches in his second of two rehab outings, so his workload will be relatively limited versus the Nats.

The Nationals activated Gore (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Gore will rejoin the Nationals' rotation Thursday against the Marlins after missing the last two weeks of action with left shoulder inflammation. The southpaw did not make a rehab start, and it doesn't appear he faced live hitters while on the IL, either, settling for just a couple bullpen sessions. That means Gore could have a relatively abbreviated workload versus the Marlins.

The Reds activated Burns (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Burns wound up missing a month of action with a Grade 1 right flexor strain. He did not go out on a rehab assignment, and the Reds' plan is to deploy the rookie flamethrower as a reliever down the stretch. While Burns is likely to be quite successful in a relief role, he will not be used as the team's closer, so it will be difficult for him to churn out much fantasy value in the final weeks.
