Garcia improved his record to 4-5 after giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks while striking out nine Wednesday in the Astros' 9-2 win over the Rangers.

Garcia's only earned run came on a solo home run by Corey Seager, though he committed the error responsible for his unearned run. Garcia recorded nine strikeouts for the third time this season, and he backed that with an impressive 19 swinging strikes on 92 total pitches. Four of those swings and misses came in the bottom of the second, when he threw nine strikes to retire the side in what went down as the 107th immaculate inning in MLB history. Houston reliever Phil Maton also struck out the side on nine pitches in the seventh to allow him and Garcia to become the first teammates in league history to toss immaculate innings in the same game.

Kaprielian (0-4) allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and six walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Red Sox.

Kaprielian was inefficient, throwing 48 of 94 pitches for strikes. This was a season-worst performance in terms of runs, hits and walks allowed, though he wasn't hurt too much by the long ball since he only surrendered one homer. The right-hander hasn't shown much quality in 41.1 innings across nine starts, logging a 6.31 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 27:19 K:BB while not pitching deeper than the sixth inning. Kaprielian lines up for a home start versus the Mariners next week.

Berrios allowed three runs on three hits and struck out eight in seven innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Wednesday.

Berrios turned in his third straight quality start, but Yimi Garcia couldn't maintain the lead for the Blue Jays in the eighth inning. Two of the hits Berrios allowed were home runs -- a two-run blast from Adley Rutschman and a solo shot by Ryan Mountcastle. Despite the long balls, it was a solid showing for Berrios, who trimmed his ERA to 4.65 with a 1.24 WHIP and 62:17 K:BB across 71.2 innings overall. He remains at a 5-2 record heading into next week's projected road start versus the White Sox.

Allard allowed three earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four across five innings Thursday against the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Allard entered the game to begin the fourth inning. He allowed a home run to the first batter he faced but then settled in until he allowed a two-run homer in his final frame of work. Allard has been used exclusively out of the bullpen this season, though he has recorded six or more outs in four of his seven appearances. He has a 5.06 ERA across 16 innings and has served up five home runs.

Faedo (1-3) allowed seven runs on nine hits across three innings to take the loss Wednesday against the White Sox. He walked one and struck out five.

All good things come to an end. Faedo had allowed two runs or fewer in each of his first seven MLB starts, resulting in a 2.92 ERA. However, his eighth career start was a buzzsaw, and the 26-year-old saw his ERA climb to 4.28 as a result. His FIP sat at 3.92 before Wednesday, so some regression seemed likely, but this was still a very disappointing outing. Faedo will look to get back on track in his next scheduled start Monday against a tricky Boston lineup.

German (shoulder) will toss three innings against live hitters Wednesday before heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment, Max Goodman of SI.com reports.

Previous reports indicated that German would make his next throwing appearance in a minor-league uniform, but the organization has instead decided to have him toss one more session of live batting practice. If that goes well, it is expected that the right-hander will then join a minor-league squad for what will probably be an extended rehab assignment. German will likely be built up as a starter during the rehab stint, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Mize confirmed via his personal Instagram account that he underwent successful Tommy John surgery earlier Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The right-hander stated that his goal is to pitch for the Tigers at some point in 2023, but if Detroit plans to bring him back in a starting role, his return may not happen until next August or September even if he endures no setbacks in his recovery. Mize made only two starts for the Tigers this season before landing on the injured list in mid-April and eventually opting for the procedure after rest and rehab didn't yield the desired results.

Manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that the Red Sox envision Sale (rib cage) serving in a starting role once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Rumors percolated earlier this month that Sale could be brought back as a reliever in order to speed up his return from the IL, but comments from pitching coach Dave Bush and now Cora have seemingly ended any speculation about the southpaw filling a bullpen role. Assuming that's the case, Sale will likely require a few weeks of ramp-up time via simulated games and a minor-league rehab assignment before he makes his 2022 debut for the Red Sox. According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Sale is scheduled to throw two simulated innings at Fenway Park on Thursday, and if all goes well, he could report to a minor-league affiliate early next week.

Rasmussen was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Wednesday, retroactive to June 12, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Rasmussen was listed as the starter for Thursday's game against the Yankees but will be unable to take the mound due to his hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for at least two weeks. The right-hander was dominant in late April and early May but struggled recently, posting a 5.59 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 19.1 innings over his last four starts. The Rays haven't yet indicated who will take Rasmussen's place in the rotation, but Ralph Garza should be a candidate to pitch multiple innings Thursday after he was recalled Wednesday.

Gray (pectoral) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's start against the Mariners.

Gray has been sidelined since late May due to his right pectoral strain and didn't require a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Twins' rotation. The right-hander threw 30 pitches in a simulated game Friday and is expected to be available to toss approximately four to six innings during Wednesday's start.
