  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

    Giants' Joc Pederson: Sitting Friday

Pederson isn't in the Giants' lineup Friday against Colorado, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

After going 5-for-19 with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored across his last six games, Pederson will get a breather for Friday's series opener. Mike Yastrzemski, Luis Matos and Mitch Haniger will start across the outfield while Michael Conforto serves as the Giants' DH.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Padres' Ji-Man Choi: Activated from IL

The Padres reinstated Choi (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Choi initially landed on the injured list Aug. 14 due to a left rib strain, but his stay was extended after he suffered a fractured ankle during a rehab game at Triple-A El Paso. Fortunately for the Padres, Choi was cleared to resume playing relatively quickly, and he will return to San Diego after going 4-for-25 with an RBI and a run scored through seven rehab games. Matt Carpenter (elbow) was placed on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Padres' Matt Carpenter: Placed on IL

The Padres placed Carpenter on the 10-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation.

The move comes retroactive to Tuesday, so Carpenter will be eligible to return in a week. Carpenter has gone 2-for-10 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored since the start of September, and he will be replaced on the roster by Ji-Man Choi (ankle), who was reinstated from the injured list Friday.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Batting cleanup Friday

Garver (foot) is serving as the DH and batting cleanup Friday at Cleveland.

Garver was lifted from Thursday's series finale against the Blue Jays after fouling a ball off his left foot, but X-rays came back negative and he won't miss a contest, serving as the designated hitter for Friday's series opener versus the Guardians. Jonah Heim will do the catching for the visiting Rangers.

  • Mariners' Brian O'Keefe: Sent back to minors

O'Keefe was activated from the paternity leave list and optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Luis Torrens took O'Keefe's spot on the roster earlier this week and the Mariners have elected to keep the former around as Cal Raleigh's backup. It allows Seattle to retain catching depth, as Torrens cannot be optioned and could've been lost on waivers.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: No fracture revealed

X-rays on Garver's left foot did not reveal a fracture after he exited Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Garver fouled a ball off of his foot during an at-bat in the fifth inning and exited one frame later. He has been diagnosed with a foot contusion. Sam Huff entered the game as the designated hitter to replace Garver.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Exits Thursday's game

Garver was removed from Thursday's game against the Blue Jays due to left foot soreness, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Garver fouled a ball off his foot in the fifth inning and was struggling to run to first base later in the at-bat. The severity of the issue is unclear, though there should be more clarity after he undergoes imaging.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Red Sox's Justin Turner: Idle during nightcap

Turner isn't in Boston's lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader with the Yankees, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Turner will get to rest during Game 2 after going 1-for-4 to begin Thursday's activities. Rafael Devers will instead serve as the Red Sox's designated hitter while Luis Urias starts at the hot corner and bats ninth.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Sitting out afternoon game

Stanton is absent from the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Red Sox.

Stanton will surely be back out there for the nightcap, but he'll take a seat for the afternoon tilt. Aaron Judge is getting a start in the designated hitter spot and Oswaldo Cabrera will roam right field for the Bronx Bombers.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Swats homer in victory

Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 7-1 win against the Diamondbacks.

Vientos took Arizona ace Zac Gallen deep for a two-run shot in the sixth inning, increasing New York's lead to 6-0. It was his second long ball through eight games in September and his fifth across 49 contests overall this season. During his time so far with the Mets, Vientos has yet to fully unlock the power he displayed in mashing 40 long balls across 162 games in the minors over the past two campaigns.
