Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Sitting ahead of start
Ohtani isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Athletics.
Ohtani went 1-for-5 with a strikeout in Friday's season opener, but he'll sit Saturday before he's scheduled to take the mound Sunday. Justin Upton will take over as the designated hitter, batting third.

Mark Canha LF | TEX
Athletics' Mark Canha: Sitting Saturday
Canha is not in the lineup Saturday against the Angels.
Canha started against lefty Andrew Heaney in the season opener Friday but will sit in favor of Robbie Grossman against righty Dylan Bundy in this one. The Athletics are certainly known to utilize platoons heavily, though it would be a surprise to see Canha sit against most righties, as he hit an excellent .273/.396/.517 last season. Over the course of his career, he's actually had reverse splits, posting a 101 wRC+ against lefties and a 121 wRC+ against righties, so platooning him in the conventional way wouldn't make much sense.

Nick Solak 1B | PIT
Rangers' Nick Solak: Starts in LF
Solak started in left field Friday in place of Willy Calhoun (hip). He went 0-for-3 in a 1-0 win over the Rockies.
Calhoun is expected to return to action Saturday but as the designated hitter, so Solak may be in the starting lineup again. Eventually, Calhoun will return to left field, leaving Rangers manager Chris Woodward looking to find a spot for Solak's bat.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Won't have restriction on innings
Ohtani won't be on an innings restriction this season even in the case of a potential playoff run, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Ohtani did not pitch at all last season following 2018 Tommy John surgery, so he would likely be handled carefully in a typical season. The 60-game 2020 campaign is far from typical, however, so the Angels have no plans to limit his season workload even if the team goes deep into the playoffs. As it stands, Ohtani is slated to pitch on a once-per-week schedule throughout the campaign, so he's unlikely to make more than 10 regular-season starts.

Byron Buxton CF | MIN
Twins' Byron Buxton: Could return early next week
Buxton (foot) could be ready for game action for the Twins' homestand early next week, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Buxton traveled to Chicago on Friday, fueling speculation that he could be available for the team's series against the White Sox. However, Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said Friday that the team hopes he'll be ready when the Twins return home early next week. Although the 26-year-old avoided the injured list to begin the season, Friday's update indicates that he could miss the entire opening series.

Kyle Lewis DH | ARI
Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Crushes first homer
Lewis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-2 loss to the Astros.
Batting cleanup, Lewis belted a long ball off of Astros ace Justin Verlander in the second inning. In 18 games last season, Lewis hit .268/.293/.592 with six homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored through 75 plate appearances. With a lack of natural outfielders on the Mariners' roster, the 24-year-old Lewis should find regular playing time in 2020.

Michael Brantley LF | HOU
Astros' Michael Brantley: Paces offense Friday
Brantley went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Friday's 8-2 win over the Mariners.
Brantley went deep against Mariners reliever Zac Grotz to complete a five-run surge from the Astros in the fifth inning. The 33-year-old left fielder knocked a career-high 22 homers in 2019 and picked up right where he left off to start the abbreviated 2020 season. Brantley will likely maintain a role in the top half of the Houston lineup.

Yoenis Cespedes DH | NYM
Mets' Yoenis Cespedes: Homers in return
Cespedes went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's win against the Braves.
Cespedes was playing in his first game in over two years after coming back from a pair of heel surgeries and a fractured ankle, but he looked like his old self as he blasted a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh inning. The home run proved to be the only run of the game in the Opening Day pitching duel. While the 34-year-old is still reportedly limited while running, Friday's performance as the designated hitter showed that he can still be a force at the plate.

J.D. Martinez DH | NYM
Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Plates three runs
Martinez went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk during Friday's 13-2 win over the Orioles.
Martinez created havoc hitting in front of Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts, but the entire Red Sox lineup produced at a high level -- Martinez was one of four Boston players to record three or more hits. The veteran slugger kicked off the season in style after hitting for .304 with 36 home runs and 105 RBI in 2019.

Brad Miller DH | SD
Cardinals' Brad Miller: Rehabbing at alternate site
Miller (ankle) arrived at the team's alternate training site in Springfield on Thursday night to get live at-bats, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
The veteran utility man still needs to work his way up to running, but the at-bats will also help him keep his timing sharp after he was able to get some work against pitchers in summer camp. The Cardinals are aiming for Miller to be available by the start of next weekend's series against the Brewers, with his progress in the coming days revealing how realistic that timeline might be.
