  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Lands on injured list

Miller was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hip strain Friday.

Miller has been sidelined since Aug. 31 due to his hip injury, so his move to the IL is likely backdated a few days. The transaction helps to make room on the active roster for Josh Jung, whose contract was officially selected Friday. It's not yet clear when Miller will be able to return to game action.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Royals' Brent Rooker: Sent back to minors

Rooker was optioned to Triple-A Omaha by the Royals on Friday.

After recording a 1.026 OPS in Triple-A this season, Rooker slashed just .160/.276/.200 over 29 plate appearances once he joined the Royals. He will be sent down in order to open up a roster spot for Vinnie Pasquantino (shoulder) who is coming off the injured list.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Remains on bench

Stanton (foot) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.

Stanton hasn't started since Monday after fouling a ball off his foot. He was able to appear off the bench Thursday, striking out as a pinch hitter, which suggests he'll be available again in that role Friday, though it remains unclear when he'll return to the lineup. Miguel Andujar remains the designated hitter Friday.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Slugs 11th homer

Jimenez went 1-for-5 with a walk, a two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Athletics.

Jimenez delivered his 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning. He's homered in two of his last three games -- also picking up five RBI and four runs scored -- and has gone deep five times in 15 contests since Aug. 23. Though he's been on the field inconsistently, Jimenez has maintained an excellent .302/.372/.488 line across 242 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Appears as pinch hitter

Stanton (foot) went 0-for-1 with a strikeout as a pinch hitter in Thursday's game against the Twins.

Manager Aaron Boone was unsure if Stanton would be able to return to the lineup Friday against the Rays, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. Miguel Andujar got the nod at designated hitter Thursday.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Yet to start baseball activities

Buxton (hip) has not started baseball activities, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "We're still kind of at the beginning phases of getting him moving and activating different parts of his lower half and getting back to some baseball activity," said manager Rocco Baldelli. "We're not quite there yet."

Buxton was placed on the injured list Aug. 23 with a low-grade right hip strain, and it was thought initially he may travel with the Twins during the current road trip for a potential activation. However, now it sounds as though the team will be lucky to see him return in September.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Still not starting

Stanton (foot) isn't starting Thursday against the Twins.

Stanton was sidelined for both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Twins and will remain out of the lineup for Thursday's series finale. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench, but Miguel Andujar will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Productive in loss

Winker went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk in a loss to the White Sox on Wednesday before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning.

It was an increasingly rare productive offensive night for Winker, who'd been mired in a 1-for-22 slump over the seven games prior to Wednesday. The offseason addition is trudging through his poorest season at the plate by far in his big-league career, as his .222 average and .352 slugging percentage are both low-water marks. However, Winker has been able to salvage matters to an extent with a .344 on-base percentage that's largely the byproduct of a career-high 15.5 percent walk rate, and he's also been undeniably held back by a .252 BABIP.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Slugs in important victory

Jimenez went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's victory over the Mariners.

Jimenez blasted a two-run homer off righty starter Luis Castillo with two outs in the fourth. The outfielder has hit four home runs and recorded 10 RBI over 42 at-bats in his last 14 games. The 25-year-old is significantly more productive against righties this year, recording a .905 OPS in 180 plate appearances as opposed to a .686 OPS in 56 plate appearances against southpaws.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Hitless in return

Martinez returned to the lineup and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Rays.

Martinez had missed the previous three games due to back problems. He'll get another off day Thursday before the Red Sox face the Orioles for three games in Baltimore this weekend. The slugger is batting just .200 with two home runs since the All-Star break.
