  • Travis d'Arnaud set to sit Monday against Phillies

    Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud has slugged two home runs in his last three games, but he will be hard-pressed to make it three of four. He is out of the lineup for the Monday afternoon game in Philadelphia. Anthony Recker will crouch behind the plate instead.

    d'Arnaud has six hits with six runs scored in the last five games after starting August in a slump.

  • Devin Mesoraco produces third career multi-HR game

    Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco totaled his third career multi-homer game Sunday, powering the Reds to a 7-2 win over the Marlins.

    Mesoraco put Cincinnati up 2-1 with a two-run homer off Brad Hand in the first inning. He then crushed a grand slam in the fifth inning with two outs, chasing Hand from the game. It was his fourth career grand slam. 

    Mesoraco reached 20 home runs for the first time in a season with his two-homer performance. He came into Sunday's game mired in a 7-for-29 slump in August.

  • Foul tip heightens concussion concern for Hector Sanchez

    Catcher Hector Sanchez is getting tested for a concussion after taking a foul tip off the mask during his Friday rehab start from Triple-A Fresno.

    Sanchez had been working his way back from a concussion that prompted the Giants to place him on the disabled list on July 26.

  • Tucker Barnhart up, Donald Lutz down for Reds

    The Reds have promoted catcher Tucker Barnhart from Triple-A Louisville and sent down utility player Donald Lutz.

    Lutz hasn't received an extended opportunity in his stints with Cincinnati this season. He has seven hits in 33 at-bats.

  • Travis d'Arnaud slugs eighth home run Friday

    Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud went 2 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Phillies Friday.

    d'Arnaud began August hitless in 10 at-bats over a four-game span, but he's 4 for 11 with a double and a home run in his last three outings. He has hit .225/.289/.375 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 253 at-bats.

    Indians take torrid bat of Yan Gomes out of lineup Friday

    Sizzling Indians catcher Yan Gomes will not get a chance to extend his 13-game hitting streak Friday night against the Yankees unless he pinch-hits. He is out of the lineup in favor of Roberto Perez.

    Gomes is 28 for 71 at the plate since July 13 with five home runs and 17 RBI.

    Yan Gomes rises, Nick Swisher falls in Cleveland lineup

    The Indians have finally elevated sizzling catcher Yan Gomes ahead of struggling Nick Swisher in their lineup. Gomes is batting fifth Thursday night against right-hander Homer Bailey with Swisher moving down to the seventh spot.

    Gomes owns a 12-game hitting streak and has three home runs and 10 RBI in his last nine games to sweeten his stat line to .286/.326/.489. He has raised his average 28 points since July 12.

    Swisher has eight hits in his last 46 at-bats and is batting .209 on the season.

    The Nationals have reinstated Wilson Ramos from the paternity list and optioned fellow catcher Sandy Leon back to Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

    Yan Gomes slugs 16th home run Wednesday

    Indians catcher Yan Gomes went 2 for 4 with a double and a solo home run in his team's 8-3 loss to the Reds Wednesday.

    Gomes finally put his team on the board with a 410-foot shot to left field in the eighth inning, but it was too little too late for the Indians. The catcher has a 12-game hitting streak, with three home runs and 11 RBI over that stretch. Gomes owns a .286/.327/.489 line with 16 home runs and 50 RBI in 350 at-bats.

  • Salvador Perez homer kick-starts Royals in vicory

    The Royals cranked out 15 hits Tuesday night in Arizona, but catcher Salvador Perez kicked off the rout in the third inning with a three-run homer that gave his team the lead to stay.

    Perez also singled twice for his second three-hit game since July 25. He has five hits and five RBI in his last three games combined.
