Cardinals' Will Johnson: Lands on IR, not expected back this season
The Cardinals placed Johnson (neck) on injured reserve Wednesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Johnson suffered a neck injury in the 31-7 loss to the Seahawks in Week 2. He was placed on injured reserve, so he is guaranteed to miss at least four games. However, the 23-year-old isn't expected to play again this season. If that's the case, he will finish the year with eight total tackles (three solo), one fumble recovery and one pass defended. Without Johnson, Garrett Williams (Achilles), who has yet to play this season, could take on a larger role upon his return. Max Melton (toe), Kei'Trel Clark and Starling Thomas, the latter who was promoted from the practice squad, may also be more involved.

Cardinals' Will Johnson: Could be set for long-term absence
Johnson (neck) may be forced to miss the remainder of the 2026 season, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Johnson suffered a neck injury in the second half of Sunday's 31-7 loss to the Seahawks, and he was unable to return to the contest. Head coach Mike LaFleur outlined Monday that it is a significant injury for the cornerback, placing doubt on his availability for the rest of the campaign. In Johnson's absence, Garrett Williams (Achilles) will likely start opposite of Denzel Burke in Arizona's secondary, once healthy.

Given that the game is well into the fourth quarter, it would be surprising to see Johnson return. His status over the coming days will be worth monitoring ahead of the Cardinals' Week 3 road tilt against the 49ers. Kei'Trel Clark and Kalen King would be candidates to start at outside cornerback if Johnson misses time.

Johnson (lower body) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.
Johnson was working through a lower-body injury toward the end of training camp. However, his full participation in Wednesday's practice puts the 2025 second-rounder on track to play in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Chargers. Johnson logged 37 tackles (27 solo), 10 pass defenses and one forced fumble across 12 regular-season games during his rookie campaign.

It's unclear when Johnson picked up the injury, though LaFleur relayed that the second-year pro is "progressing well" in his recovery. Cardinals' Will Johnson: MRI comes back clean
Johnson's (knee) MRI came back negative Monday, and he's healthy headed into the offseason, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Johnson had to leave Sunday's regular-season finale against the Rams with a knee injury, but he's avoided anything notable injury-wise and should have a normal offseason. The second-round rookie appeared in 12 regular-season games for Arizona, making 10 starts, and wrapped up his 2025 campaign with 37 tackles (27 solo), 10 pass breakups and one forced fumble. He should return as a starting cornerback in 2026.
