  • Chargers' Keaton Mitchell: Will have role on game days

Chargers OC Mike McDaniel said Monday that Mitchell will have an offensive role on game days this season, Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.

McDaniel specifically mentioned all three of Omarion Hampton, Kimani Vidal and Mitchell will have roles in the offense. "All three of those guys will start at that point given the nature of the NFL," McDaniel said. "I will use all three of those guys every game." Mitchell signed a two-year, $9.25 million deal with the Bolts in the offseason, and that's not chump change for a running back, so the money itself suggests McDaniel has a vision for him. Armed with a 4.37 40 time and elite burst, Mitchell is a dream fit in McDaniel's offense that is built on speed. The Chargers have already been experimenting with Mitchell in the passing game this summer. He's a high-upside, lottery-ticket pick in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

  • Chargers' Keaton Mitchell: Gets two-year deal with Chargers

Mitchell agreed to terms Thursday on a two-year, $9.25 million contract with Los Angeles, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Mitchell brings his talents to a backfield already led by Omarion Hamption and No. 2 back Kimani Vidal. Across three seasons with Baltimore, the 24-year-old logged a total of 112 carries for 767 yards and three touchdowns, averaging an impressive 6.34 YPC. While the Hampton and Vidal represent difficult competition for Mitchell to earn depth opportunities, he seems a strong fit for new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel's scheme and will be a sleeper candidate to impress with the Chargers.

  • Keaton Mitchell: Not tendered by Ravens

The Ravens aren't placing a tender on Mitchell, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Mitchell went undrafted back in 2023, which means his original-round tender ($3.52 million) as a restricted free agent wouldn't have entailed any draft compensation. The Ravens opted against it, even though Mitchell averaged 5.1 carries for 30.3 yards (5.9 YPC) over the final 11 games of last season. Derrick Henry will return as Baltimore's lead runner, while passing-down specialist Justice Hill has been mentioned as a potential cap casualty (something that may or may not change with Mitchell becoming a free agent). Meanwhile, Fowler mentions the Giants as a potential suitor for Mitchell.

  • Ravens' Keaton Mitchell: Gets back on track in 2025

Mitchell finished the 2025 season with 59 carries for 341 yards and a touchdown while adding nine catches for 63 yards on 12 targets over 13 games.

This was a bounce-back season for Mitchell, who was limited to just five games in 2024 after recovering from a knee injury suffered as a rookie. Mitchell was inactive as a healthy scratch for the first month of the season before getting into the mix for the rest of the season. Though Mitchell never garnered more than nine carries in any game, he was effective with his chances by sustaining a 5.8 YPC figure over 59 rushes. He seemed to regain his speed with four carries of at least 20 yards. Mitchell enters the offseason as a restricted free agent, meaning the Ravens will be able to offer him various types of qualifying offers. Derrick Henry and Justice Hill are both under contract for 2026, however.
