Giants' Theo Johnson: Four targets, zero catches in Week 2 loss
Johnson played 16 of the Giants' 58 offensive snaps but did not haul in any of his four targets during Monday's 28-6 loss to the Rams.
All four of Johnson's targets came in the first half, three of which were in the opening quarter. The third-year tight end failed to record a catch, but he did log a tackle on Trent McDuffie after the latter intercepted Jameis Winston midway through the second quarter. Johnson is firmly behind Isaiah Likely on the depth chart, though all of the Giants pass catchers figure to see their production dip with Winston under center instead of Jaxson Dart, the latter of whom could miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Limited offensive production in Week 1
Johnson caught his only target for nine yards in Sunday night's 28-20 win over the Cowboys.
Johnson operated as a clear second-fiddle to Isaiah Likely at tight end in Week 1, with the latter reeling in all eight of his targets for 78 yards and two scores in the game. Johnson was on the field for only 32 of the team's 69 offensive snaps, and as long as Likely is available, he won't have much fantasy appeal this season.

Johnson (shoulder) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Johnson is coming off a 2025 regular season in which he posted a 45-528-5 line on 74 targets in 15 games, but the arrival of TE Isaiah Likely via free agency has provided the former with some competition at the position ahead of his third pro campaign. With the shoulder injury he picked up in an Aug. 24 practice behind Johnson, he'll focus on being a regular part of the Giants offense in Sunday's Week 1 matchup with the Cowboys.

Per the report, Johnson went down while blocking and appeared visibly frustrated as he headed toward the locker room. Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, coach John Harbaugh noted that the tight end collided with teammate Kayvon Thibodeaux, and at this stage he thinks that Johnson will be okay.

Johnson (illness) faces added target competition after the Giants signed Isaiah Likely to a three-year, $40 million contract Monday, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
Johnson, a 2024 fourth-round pick, emerged as New York's clear top tight end in 2025 while securing 45 of 74 targets for 528 and five touchdowns across 15 regular-season appearances, but Likely's contract and familiarity with new head coach John Harbaugh make him the favorite to lead the position in pass-catching reps. That said, Johnson figures to remain in a significant role on offense and the Giants made it a priority to re-sign blocking specialist Chris Manhertz prior to the start of free agency. It won't be surprising if New York deploys a heavy rotation at right end during the 2026 season. Johnson missed the final two games of 2025 due to an illness but should be fully healthy to begin offseason activities.

Johnson (illness) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Dallas, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson didn't practice this week and will now miss a second straight game to close out his second pro season. He played in each of the first 15 games, catching 45 of 74 targets for 528 yards and five touchdowns.
