49ers' Patrick McMorris: Joining 49ers
The 49ers signed McMorris to a one-year deal Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
McMorris spent the 2025 campaign on the Cardinals' practice squad but didn't appear in any games. The 24-year-old will now spend the remainder of the offseason competing for a spot on San Francisco's final roster.

Patrick McMorris: Signed to Cardinals' practice squad
The Cardinals signed McMorris (calf) to the practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
McMorris logged one solo tackle across eight regular-season games for the Dolphins in 2024. He mostly played on special teams and would serve in that role if the Cardinals elevate him to the active roster.

In a corresponding transaction, the Dolphins waived veteran safety Marcus Maye. Dolphins' Patrick McMorris: Starting season on IR
The Dolphins placed McMorris (foot) on the reserve/injured list Thursday.
The Dolphins' rookie sixth-round pick sustained a foot injury at the tail end of training camp, which caused him to miss the preseason finale against the Buccaneers on Friday. McMorris will be forced to sit out for the first four regular-season games, and he is eligible to return in Week 5 against the Patriots on Oct. 6.

Dolphins' Patrick McMorris: Considered week-to-week
Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that McMorris (foot) is week-to-week, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
McMorris sat out Friday's exhibition finale against the Buccaneers and was wearing a walking boot on his right foot prior to the contest. He made a push for a spot on the 53-man roster during the team's first two preseason contests and in practice, but that opportunity could be blunted by the foot injury. Fellow safeties Jordan Poyer (thumb) and Jevon Holland (undisclosed) are also dealing with injuries, but those issues are expected to be shorter term, and both players are likely to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Dolphins' Patrick McMorris: Wearing walking boot
McMorris (foot) is wearing a boot on his right foot Friday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
It's not clear when or how McMorris hurt his foot, but the injury will likely keep him out of the Dolphins' preseason finale Friday versus Tampa Bay. The rookie safety had been turning heads in camp, and he played in both of Miami's first two exhibition matchups, including in the preseason opener against Atlanta when he tallied a team-high eight tackles (seven solo) -- including two tackles for loss -- and a defensed pass. McMorris has been on the bubble for a spot on the 53-man roster, and it's not clear how the foot injury will impact his standing in that regard.

Dolphins' Patrick McMorris: Provides needed depth in Miami
The Dolphins selected McMorris in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 198th overall.
McMorris brings plenty of production to the Miami secondary, as he was an all-conference performer in the Mountain West with San Diego State for much of his collegiate career. He transferred to Cal for his final year of eligibility and immediately stepped in to lead the team in pass breakups. McMorris has the physicality to play safety in the pros, but he lacks explosiveness (sixth percentile broad jump, fifth percentile vertical jump) which limits his upside. The Dolphins had only three safeties on the roster entering the draft, so McMorris should have a chance to make the team with a decent performance in training camp.
