  • Giants' DJ James: Reverts to IR

James (undisclosed) reverted to the Giants' injured reserve list Friday, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.

James was waived/injured by the Giants on Thursday and went unclaimed. The cornerback will now spend the entirety of the 2026 season on injured reserve unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team. James played two defensive snaps and five special-teams snaps over one regular-season game for the Patriots in 2025.

  • DJ James: Waived/injured by New York

The Giants waived/injured James (undisclosed) on Thursday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.

James will be placed on waivers, and if he remains unclaimed, will revert to the Giants' injured-reserve list. Once on IR, the cornerback will remain there for the entirety of the 2026 season unless he is waived with an injury settlement.

  • Seahawks' D.J. James: Comes off NFI list

James (undisclosed) was activated off Seattle's active/non-football injury list Wednesday, John Boyle of the team's official website reports.

James had been dealing with an undisclosed injury, but he's eligible to return to the field now that he's passed his physical. Since the 2024 sixth-round pick is fully healthy once again, he's expected to compete with Chris Steele and Nehemiah Pritchett for a depth role in the Seahawks' secondary as the offseason progresses.

  • Seahawks' D.J. James: Placed on active/NFI list

James (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Seahawks on Thursday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.

James went on the list before training camp, so he can return at any time during camp, per Boyle. Seattle drafted James in the sixth round back in April, and once the Auburn product is back on the field, he'll compete for depth slotting in the team's cornerback corps.

  • Seahawks' D.J. James: Seattle ends tumble in Round 6

The Seahawks selected James in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 192nd overall.

By selecting James, the Seahawks reunite him with fellow corner and former Auburn teammate Nehemiah Pritchett, whom Seattle selected in the fifth round. Whereas Pritchett is a typical Seattle-style boundary corner (taller, longer arms, fast), James is very much not a typical Seattle corner. That's because James is rail-thin by cornerback standards (6-feet, 175 pounds) and has short arms (31 inches), two details that make James a poor fit for the press coverage Seattle is known for. James was an effective starter for Auburn and has plenty of speed to work with (4.42-second 40-yard dash), and apparently that was enough for Seattle, especially so late in the draft.
