Texans' Marlin Klein: Team-high 31 receiving yards in debut
Klein caught his only target for 31 yards in Thursday's 27-7 preseason loss to the Chargers.
Klein's lone catch gained enough yards to lead the Texans in receiving yards as Houston's offense struggled to produce while the team's starters rested in the preseason opener. Houston drafted Klein 59th overall out of Michigan, and the rookie second-round pick is likely to begin his career in a backup role behind Dalton Schultz. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Klein was known more for his blocking than his receiving ability in college.

Texans' Marlin Klein: Ready for training camp
Klein has recovered from his hamstring strain and is all set for training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Klein suffered a hamstring injury during the Texans' OTAs, but the second-round draft pick is back and ready to compete for a role in the team's tight end corps. Klein's primary competition for the No. 2 tight end spot is Foster Moreau and Brevin Jordan, but Cade Stover also has NFL playing experience that could give him the edge if the rookie does not sufficiently stand out in training camp or the preseason.

Texans' Marlin Klein: Dealing with hamstring issue
Klein was sidelined at the Texans' OTAs during the week after tweaking his hamstring, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Per Wilson, the injury isn't expected to keep Klein off the practice field for an extended period. The rookie second-round pick, who's competing with Foster Moreau for the No. 2 job behind Dalton Schultz, will have a chance to return to practice at some point during the Texans' mandatory minicamp, which begins Tuesday.

Texans' Marlin Klein: Chosen by Houston
The Texans selected Klein in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 59th overall.
Klein spent his entire three-year college career with Michigan, and in 2025 he was named as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after posting 24 catches for 248 yards and a touchdown. He has an athletic, 6-foot-6 frame that should help him develop as a capable blocker at the NFL level, but he'll need to work on his route running and pass-catching ability to earn the trust of QB C.J. Stroud in the passing game. Dalton Schultz (calf) will be the Texans' starting tight end next season, so Klein will compete with Cade Stover (knee) and Brevin Jordan (knee) for the backup job.
