49ers' Mykel Williams: Moved to reserve/PUP list
Williams (knee) was moved to the reserve/PUP list by the 49ers on Sunday.
Williams is still recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in November 2025, and he was unable to practice or play during the preseason. The 22-year-old will now be forced to miss at least four contests to open the regular season, and the earliest he'll be able to return to action is Week 5 against the Seahawks on Oct. 11.

49ers' Mykel Williams: Unlikely to be ready for Week 1
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that Williams (knee) is considered a "long shot" to play in Week 1 against the Rams, Dylan Grausz of NBC Sports reports.
Despite the relatively discouraging update, Shanahan did not completely rule out the possibility of Williams being back up to full speed by the start of the regular season. Like Williams, fellow edge rusher Nick Bosa is also recovering from an ACL tear suffered last year, and the 49ers have already seen multiple other injuries on the front seven, so there's a strong possibility they will have to call on some unlikely players to begin the new campaign.

49ers' Mykel Williams: Opening training camp on PUP
The 49ers placed Williams (knee) on the active/PUP list Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Williams is still working his way back from a torn ACL he suffered in November 2025 and will now be sidelined indefinitely. The 22-year-old can be activated at any time and is expected to serve as one of the team's starting outside linebackers during the upcoming campaign.

49ers' Mykel Williams: Should be ready for training camp
San Francisco GM John Lynch said Sunday that Williams (knee) is expected to be back for training camp, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports.
Williams tore the ACL and lateral meniscus in his right knee during the 49ers' Week 9 win over the Giants. Lynch acknowledged that the 2025 first-round pick might take longer than fellow defensive end Nick Bosa, who tore his ACL about 1.5 months earlier in late September, to recover. Williams tallied 20 tackles and 1.0 sacks over nine games as a rookie.
