Trey Sermon: Returns to practice squad
Sermon reverted to Pittsburgh's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Sermon got a gameday elevation for Sunday's matchup versus Minnesota in Dublin, Ireland. He didn't log any work on offense but did see six snaps on special teams and returned two kickoffs for 51 yards. Sermon's elevation was influenced by Jaylen Warren needing to sit out Week 4 due to a knee injury, but Warren seemingly has a good chance of being back in action for the Steelers' next game given that the team has a Week 5 bye.

Steelers' Trey Sermon: Elevated from practice squad
The Steelers elevated Sermon from their practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Vikings.
Sermon is set to be elevated for the second straight week and will provide extra depth at running back if Jaylen Warren is limited due to his knee injury. Sermon played exclusively on special teams during last week's victory over the Patriots and will look to have a larger role versus Minnesota. The Steelers will be able to elevate the 26-year-old just one more time this season following Sunday's matchup before having to sign him to the active roster if they want him to suit up.

Trey Sermon: Reverts to practice squad
Sermon reverted to the Steelers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
All three of Sermon's snaps came on special teams as Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell handled touches out of the backfield while Kaleb Johnson was active but did not play. Sermon is eligible to be elevated to the Steelers' active roster two more times this season and that could come as soon as Week 4 against the Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, especially if Johnson continues to see limited to no playing time.

Steelers' Trey Sermon: Called up from practice squad
The Steelers elevated Sermon from the practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Patriots, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Sermon will get his first chance to appear in a game this season after having joined Pittsburgh's practice squad back in August. He will likely serve as the team's No. 4 running back and could see playing time on special teams as well.

Trey Sermon: Joins Steelers' practice squad
Sermon signed with Pittsburgh's practice squad Wednesday.
Sermon and Lew Nichols have been added to the practice squad as organizational depth behind rostered running backs Jaylen Warren, Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell. Sermon has suited up for 42 regular-season NFL games, including all 17 with the Colts last season.

Trey Sermon: Let go by Pittsburgh
Sermon was released by the Steelers on Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official website reports.
Sermon signed with the Steelers on May 11, and despite a relatively active preseason, the 26-year-old running back was unable to secure a spot on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster behind Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson. The Ohio State product will now look to latch on with another team for the 2025 season.

Steelers' Trey Sermon: Scores touchdown in preseason win
Sermon rushed three times for seven yards while securing all four of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 31-25 preseason win over the Jaguars.
While Sermon didn't make much of an impact on the ground during Saturday's preseason opener, he tied for the team lead in targets and receptions while also reaching the end zone in the third quarter. The 2021 third-rounder signed a one-year contract with the Steelers in May and is competing with Kenneth Gainwell, Evan Hull and Lew Nichols for a spot on the 53-man roster behind Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson.

Steelers' Trey Sermon: Set to join Pittsburgh
The Steelers are signing Sermon to a one-year contract, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
Sermon was a third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2021, but he's yet to make a major impact at the NFL level. The 26-year-old spent the past two seasons with Indianapolis, and he logged a career-high 236 offensive snaps over 17 regular-season games last year, though he averaged just 2.8 yards on 56 carries while scoring a career-high two rushing touchdowns. Sermon also logged 99 yards on 16 catches and contributed on special teams late in the campaign. With Najee Harris now with the Chargers, Pittsburgh has rebuilt its running back room behind returning starter Jaylen Warren, adding both Sermon and Kenneth Gainwell in free agency along with third-round draft choice Kaleb Johnson.

Colts' Trey Sermon: Free agency looms
Sermon rushed 56 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns across 17 regular-season appearances with the Colts in 2024. He also secured 16 of 19 targets for 99 yards.
Sermon suited up for all 17 of Indianapolis' regular-season games but finished the year with just a 2.8 YPC mark, a significant step down in efficiency. Jonathan Taylor dominated offensive snaps in all but the three games he missed due to injury, and at times Tyler Goodson looked like a more capable No. 2 option than Sermon. With Goodson having inked a one-year extension with the Colts, Sermon could be set to walk as an unrestricted free agent.

Colts' Trey Sermon: Gets eight carries in win
Sermon had eight carries for 25 yards in Sunday's win over Tennessee.
Sermon had his most carries since Week 7 as he got some work with the Colts having a large lead. Jonathan Taylor had 218 yards rushing and the Colts had 335 yards rushing, so Sermon isn't likely to get many carries next week unless a similar blowout scenario happens. Sermon had minimal work the previous five weeks (1 carry total) as Taylor has received almost every touch in the backfield.

Colts' Trey Sermon: Three touches against Denver
Sermon rushed once for three yards and caught both of his targets for nine yards in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Broncos.
Sermon played just 18 of the Colts' 76 offensive snaps Sunday, while starter Jonathan Taylor continued to dominate the snap share with 52 snaps. The 25-year-old Sermon's rushing attempt against the Broncos in Week 15 was his first carry since Week 9. Barring an injury to Taylor, the veteran backup holds little value for fantasy purposes other than as an insurance policy. The Colts host the Titans in Week 16.
