  • Dolphins' Trey Moore: Opening season on IR

Moore (ankle) was placed on injured reserve by the Dolphins on Sunday with a designation to return.

Moore suffered an ankle injury in the team's second preseason contest against the Giants on Aug. 22, and he was unable to appear in the team's preseason finale against the Falcons on Friday. The rookie fourth-round pick will now be forced to sit out the first four games of the 2026 campaign, and the earliest he'll be able to make his NFL regular-season debut is Week 5 against the Bengals on Oct. 11. In Moore's absence, Ronnie Harrison (hamstring) and Kyle Louis are candidates to see an increase in workload as reserve options at outside linebacker.

  • Dolphins' Trey Moore: Dealing with ankle injury

Moore sustained an ankle injury during the Dolphins' 26-3 preseason loss to the Giants on Saturday, C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald reports.

Moore sustained the injury early in the first quarter while in pass coverage, which prompted his removal from Saturday's exhibition contest. Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley told reporters Sunday that Moore will "miss some time" due to his ankle injury. While a firm timeline wasn't provided, it seems like the rookie fourth-rounder will not play in Friday's preseason finale against the Falcons, with the hope that he'll be available for Week 1 against the Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 13.

  • Dolphins' Trey Moore: Nabbed by Dolphins

The Dolphins selected Moore in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 130th overall.

Moore is a versatile option on the line but is a bit of a tweener between linebacker and edge rusher, standing 6-foot-1, 243 pounds. He didn't lack for production at the collegiate level, notching 14.0 sacks in 2023 at UTSA before transferring to Texas and compiling a combined 8.5 sacks and 70 tackles in his two seasons in Austin. He does a good job of staying low and keeping leverage in the run game but is undersized for an edge with arms on the shorter side that could lead to some trouble creating separation from opposing offensive linemen. It remains to be seen what the Dolphins plan to do with Moore, whether it be remaining on the edge or ultimately moving to linebacker. Either way, he's likely bound for special-teams duties as a rookie and will likely face a learning curve at the next level.
