Dolphins' Kyle McCord: Opening season as No. 2 quarterback
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed Tuesday that McCord will begin the season as the team's No. 2 quarterback, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Miami bolstered its quarterback room by claiming Brady Cook off waivers Monday, but he'll occupy the third spot on the depth chart while McCord serves as the top backup to Malik Willis. Acquired from the Packers over the weekend in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick, McCord is coming off an impressive preseason in which he completed 46 of 70 pass attempts (65.7 percent) for 446 yards and a 4:0 TD:INT over three games. The 23-year-old is still waiting to make his NFL debut, as he spent all of last season on the Eagles' practice squad after failing to make the roster as a rookie sixth-round pick.

Dolphins' Kyle McCord: Moving to Miami
Green Bay traded McCord to the Dolphins on Sunday in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
McCord had a strong preseason with the Packers, completing 65.7 percent of his 70 passes for 446 yards with a 4:0 TD:INT over three games. However, Green Bay already has a reliable backup to Jordan Love in veteran Tyrod Taylor, so the organization opted to get something back for McCord rather than risk losing him on waivers. Now that he's with Miami, McCord will fill the team's No. 2 QB role behind Malik Willis after the Dolphins traded Quinn Ewers to Jacksonville on Saturday and waived both Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski early Sunday. That puts McCord in a better position to make an impact in fantasy, though his opportunity for playing time is entirely dependent on Willis' health and performance.

Packers' Kyle McCord: Heading to Green Bay
The Packers signed McCord to a reserve/future contract Tuesday.
McCord was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was unable to beat out Tanner McKee or Sam Howell for a spot on the 53-man roster behind Jalen Hurts, so McCord spent his entire rookie season on Philadelphia's practice squad. McCord will get a new opportunity in Green Bay, and he would have a clearer path to the backup quarterback job behind Jordan Love if Malik Willis opts to sign with a different team when the offseason officially begins Feb. 9.

Kyle McCord: Will be Eagles' practice-squad QB
The Eagles signed McCord to the practice squad Thursday.
The rookie sixth-rounder wasn't able to crack the Eagles' 53-man roster, but he'll stay in Philadelphia as the team's scout team quarterback. With Tanner McKee in jeopardy of missing Week 1 due to a thumb injury, McCord could be elevated to the active roster to serve as the Eagles' emergency quarterback behind Jalen Hurts and Sam Howell.

Kyle McCord: Let go by Philadelphia
McCord was waived by the Eagles on Tuesday.
McCord appeared in all three preseason games with the team, completing 24 of 56 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions. The quarterback was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and if he clears waivers, he will likely join the Eagles' practice squad.
