  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Backfield getting crowded

Skattebo gained more competition for snaps and touches Tuesday when the Giants signed Najee Harris, as reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

New York already seemed to be leaning toward a backfield committee with Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary all working with the offensive starters during the team's preseason opener last Saturday, but Harris potentially adds another running back to the mix once he proves he's fully recovered from an Achilles tear. Skattebo remains at the top of the depth chart, but given his own health concerns after his rookie season was cut short by an ankle injury that required surgery, his workload could be scaled back from 20.8 touches per game he averaged in the five weeks before getting hurt.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Starts preseason game, takes four carries

Skattebo started Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings, taking four carries for 19 yards over the first two drives.

Tyrone Tracy lined up with the starters in warmups, but Skattebo got the nod come game time and took two carries for seven yards on the first two snaps. Tracy then had a carry and a target (for no gain) later on the opening drive, which ended when his missed block got QB Jaxson Dart thrown to the turf. Dart returned for the second drive, handing off to Devin Singletary on the first two plays. Skattebo then subbed in for carries of five and seven yards on back-to-back plays before giving way to Tracy (and then Singletary) for the rest of the series Dante Miller and Eric Gray then took over backfield work for the rest of the half. Sharing first-team snaps with two other RBs may not seem encouraging for Skattebo's fantasy value, but he did have the best afternoon of the trio in his first game back from major surgery. He'll likely get a larger share of the workload come Week 1.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Warming up with second unit

Skattebo is lined up with Jameis Winston and the second-string offense during pregame warmups for Saturday's preseason matchup with Minnesota, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy are listed as co-starters on the Giants' initial preseason depth chart, and there's a good chance both end up taking snaps with the starters. Tracy, however, appears in line to get the first crack at Minnesota's defense. Skattebo looks ready to make his first game appearance since suffering a season-ending ankle/leg injury last year. The Giants haven't outright said that he'll play, so there is still some chance that Skattebo that just watches from the sideline in uniform Saturday.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Listed as co-starter with Tracy

The Giants list Skattebo as a co-starter at running back with Tyrone Tracy on their first unofficial depth chart of season that was posted Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Though he worked ahead of Tracy last season before his rookie campaign came to an end when he dislocated his ankle Week 8, Skattebo hasn't yet been anointed as the Giants' No. 1 back heading into 2026. Skattebo was cleared for the start of training camp but has had his workload managed coming off the major injury. The 24-year-old should see his reps increase as camp and the preseason rolls along, and assuming he's able to steer clear of any health-related setbacks, the expectation remains that he'll receive the starting nod out of the backfield Week 1 versus the Cowboys.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Harbaugh downplays exit from practice

Coach John Harbaugh said Skattebo's early exit from Friday's practice is "nothing serious at all," Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

According to Duggan, Skattebo went down in the middle of Friday's session and appeared to be stretching out his hamstring, after which he didn't mix into drills the rest of the way. Harbaugh also told Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News that Skattebo is merely working his way back from last season's dislocated right ankle. How Skattebo fares the rest of training camp and the preseason will determine his ultimate workload once Week 1 arrives, with Tyrone Tracy and, to a lesser extent, Devin Singletary also on hand for backfield reps.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Declared ready for camp

Giants GM Joe Schoen said Wednesday that Skattebo (ankle) is "good to go" for the start of training camp, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Skattebo made similar comments a week and a half earlier, telling reporters that he was "perfectly fine" and "ready to go" for training camp. He and Tyrone Tracy both figure to get first-team reps this summer -- with Devin Singletary perhaps mixing in some as well -- but Skattebo remains a clear favorite for the Week 1 starting job. His progress nonetheless needs to be monitored this summer, as he's coming back from a severe injury that included ligament damage around the ankle.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Says he's ready for camp

Skattebo (ankle) said Sunday that he's "ready to go" for training camp, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.

Skattebo -- who indicated that he is "perfectly fine" after appearing to land awkwardly while doing a backflip during an appearance at Fanatics Fest this past weekend -- said "I feel great" and that "the last two weeks of my training have felt the most normal, it's been excellent." The second-year pro got back on the field for team drills late during mandatory minicamp in June, and it sounds like he'll enter training camp at near 100 percent health from ankle surgery undergone last October. Skattebo and other veterans will report for Giants training camp July 28, with rookies kicking things off July 23. Once he's fully cleared, Skattebo is expected to reclaim the lead role in New York's backfield, which also houses Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Expected for early camp work

Skattebo (ankle) is expected to be ready be a participant early on in training camp, according to coach John Harbaugh, NFL.com reports.

Skattebo is bouncing back from surgery to address a dislocated ankle that he suffered Week 8 of last season, but the running back is reportedly on track in terms of his recovery, a notion supported by the fact that he was able to take part in some 11-on-11 drills in a limited fashion during last month's minicamp. Once he's fully cleared for on-field work, Skattebo will be in a position to reestablish himself as the top option in a Giants backfield that also includes fellow returnees Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. The team's first open training camp practice will be held July 30.

  • Giants' Cam Skattebo: Confident in rehab from injury

Skattebo (ankle) said last week that he's confident he'll come back strong from his rehab and "get back [to] running people over," NFL.com's Bobby Kownack reports.

Skattebo also said he won't let "this little ankle thing" bother him, promising "normal Cam Skattebo" when he gets back on the field. He's now eight months removed from surgery, after suffering a dislocated ankle, fractured tibia and ruptured deltoid ligament in October. It's the type of injury that can seriously impact a player's speed and explosion long after he's gained medical clearance, but Skattebo has youth (24 years old) working in his favor and seems to be advancing through the rehab process as fast as anyone reasonably could've hoped for. He even took part in some 11-on-11s during June minicamp, albeit on a limited basis. The next major step is to gain clearance for training camp, where the Giants' new coaching staff will work with a backfield that looks nearly identical to last year's. Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary, Eric Gray and Dante Miller are all still with the team, though only Tracy likely represents any kind of threat to Skattebo's usage.
