Dortch has expended two practice squad elevations for the Bills over two regular-season weeks. The returner has played four offensive snaps and 18 special teams snaps in the two contests, totaling 133 kick return yards and 46 punt return yards. With defensive back Jordan Hancock (hamstring) moving to IR, the team utilized the freshly opened spot to secure its primary returner a spot on the 53-man roster.

Greg Dortch: Reverts to practice squad
Dortch reverted to the Bills' practice squad Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Dortch played a total of 12 snaps (four on offense, eight on special teams) and was the Bills' primary returner on special teams in Thursday's 41-31 win over the Lions, logging 36 yards on three punt returns and turning two kickoffs into 51 yards. It's the second consecutive game in which Dortch has been elevated to the active roster, and he's eligible to be elevated only once more for the rest of the regular season before having to be signed to the active roster in order to suit up again for the Bills in 2026.

The Bills elevated Dortch from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Thursday's game versus the Lions.
Dortch was elevated to the active roster for Sunday's 36-31 victory over the Texans. That trend will continue Thursday, with the 28-year-old suiting up for a potential high-scoring contest. The Bills' receiving corps is healthy in Week 2, so Dortch will presumably spend most of his time on special teams once again.

In a Lions receiving corps that isn't exactly deep behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa, Dortch was unable to escape cutdown day Sunday as a roster casualty in Detroit. Upon joining the Bills, Dortch similarly has a difficult path to relevance, though two of the team's top three wide receivers -- Khalil Shakir (undisclosed) and Keon Coleman (foot) -- are tending to injuries at the moment. In any case, Buffalo will have three opportunities to elevate Dortch from the practice squad in-season before needing to make a decision to add him to the active roster.

When Dortch linked up with Detroit in the offseason, his best path to playing time, or even a roster spot, was his ability as a returner, as the Lions offense runs primarily through its big four of RB Jahmyr Gibbs, WRs Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams and TE Sam LaPorta (hip). Lions' Greg Dortch: Links up with Lions
Dortch and the Lions have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Dortch served as a regular pass catcher in the Cardinals offense the last four seasons, averaging 35.5 catches (on 47 targets) for 323.8 yards and 2.5 touchdowns in 15.3 games per campaign during that span. While he'll handle a similar tertiary role in Detroit as he reunites with his offensive coordinator (Drew Petzing) from the past three years, he may make his biggest impact as a returner after reeling off 811 yards on 31 kick returns and 185 yards on 16 punt returns in 12 regular-season contests in 2025.

Cardinals' Greg Dortch: No action after Week 13
Dortch (chest) hauled in 29 off 33 targets for 206 yards and three touchdowns, notched seven carries for 15 yards and another TD and turned 31 kick returns into 811 yards and 15 more punt returns for 185 yards in 12 regular-season games in 2025.
Dortch didn't see any game action after Week 13 due to a chest injury, spending the rest of the campaign on injured reserve, but he served as the Cardinals' primary returner and a regular option at wide receiver before that point. Overall, he recorded a new career high in touchdowns with four and also reached 200 receiving yards for a fourth straight season. Dortch is a pending unrestricted free agent, so he should handle return duties, at least, wherever he lands this offseason.
