  • Chapelle Russell: Works out with Washington

Russell (undisclosed) had a tryout with the Commanders on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Russell suffered an undisclosed injury last August and was subsequently placed on the Steelers' injured reserve. As a result, he missed the entire 2023 season. While the specific nature of his injury is unclear, the linebacker appears to be back to full health. It remains to be seen if he will get a chance with Washington.

  • Steelers' Chapelle Russell: Reverts to IR

Russell (undisclosed) has cleared waivers and subsequently reverted to the Steelers' injured reserve, per the NFL's transaction log.

Russell was injured during the Pittsburgh's preseason opener, although the team has not specified what injury he has. Unless Russell and the Steelers can come to an agreement on an injury settlement once his health is back up to par, he is in line to be sidelined for the entire 2023. season.

  • Chapelle Russell: Gets let go

Russell (undisclosed) was waived by the Steelers with an injury designation Sunday, Alan Saunders of PittsburghSportsNow.com reports.

  • Jaguars' Chapelle Russell: Activated from COVID list

Russell (undisclosed) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

Russell missed the season finale after landing on the COVID-19 list last week. He totaled 18 tackles in 16 games during 2021 and enters the offseason as an exclusive rights free agent, so he'll remain with Jacksonville if the team opts to tender him a contract.

  • Jaguars' Chapelle Russell: Placed on COVID-19 list

The Jaguars placed Russell (undisclosed) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.

While it's not yet clear whether Russell has tested positive for COVID-19, it appears unlikely that he'll be available for Sunday's Week 18 matchup against the Colts. He's played primarily on special teams this year, so his status shouldn't significantly impact Jacksonville's defensive plans.

  • Jaguars' Chapelle Russell: Awarded to Jacksonville

Russell was awarded off waivers to the Jaguars on Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Russell spent the 2020 campaign with Tampa Bay, playing 109 snaps on special teams and three on defense across 11 contests. He'll now set his sights on competing for a spot on the 53-man roster with the Jaguars.

  • Buccaneers' Chapelle Russell: Inks contract with active roster

The Buccaneers signed Russell to the active roster Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.

The rookie seventh-rounder has spent the season on the Buccaneers' practice squad, but he's received a promotion following news that Jack Cichy (hamstring) has been placed on IR. Cichy played strictly on special teams over the first five games, so Russell likely will handle a similar role. If he performs well enough, Russell has a chance to retain a spot on the 53-man roster even when Cichy returns.

  • Buccaneers' Chapelle Russell: Heading to Tampa Bay

The Buccaneers selected Russell in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 241st overall.

Russell fought though back-to-back ACL tears during his collegiate career before stepping up as an every-game starter for Temple over the last two seasons. He boasts solid athleticism and coverage skills, but concerns regarding his tackling consistency and durability will likely lead the Buccaneers to view him as a project with potential depth upside.
