Fears won't start in Sunday's game against Houston, according to Lachard Binkley of SI.com.
Dejounte Murray (hand) didn't suit up for Friday's 119-106 loss to Toronto. As a result, Fears entered the starting lineup, finishing with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and one block across 27 minutes. However, with Murray cleared to return from his one-game absence, Fears will head back to the bench.

Pelicans' Jeremiah Fears: Struggles with shot once again
Fears produced 10 points (3-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, three assists and one block across 28 minutes during Friday's 119-106 loss to the Raptors.
Fears returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 23, although he only did it due to the absences of Dejounte Murray (Achilles) and Trey Murphy (ankle), who were both unavailable for the second leg of this back-to-back set. The rookie out of Oklahoma failed to take advantage of the opportunity, and he should return to a lesser role off the bench going forward. That should limit his fantasy upside considerably.

Fears will start Friday's game against the Raptors, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports.
With Dejounte Murray (Achilles) and Trey Murphy (ankle) unavailable for the second leg of this back-to-back set, Fears will get the starting nod for the first time since Jan. 21. As a starter this season (44 games), the rookie first-rounder has averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 26.5 minutes per tilt.

Fears had 21 points (9-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt), one rebound, three assists and two steals across 20 minutes during Tuesday's 121-116 loss to the Knicks.
Fears was held scoreless in both the first and third quarters but posted double-digit points in each of the second and fourth frames to finish as the Pelicans' second-leading scorer behind Zion Williamson (22 points). It was Fears' 12th 20-plus-point game of the season and first since March 1 against the Clippers. The rookie first-rounder has averaged 12.5 points, 3.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 threes over 22.2 minutes per game since the All-Star break.

Fears racked up 28 points (10-15 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), three rebounds, four assists and two blocks across 26 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 137-117 loss to the Clippers.
The 28 points led all scorers on the night, and the Pelicans' top two offensive threats both came from the second unit, as fellow rookie Derik Queen dropped 19 points. Fears also set a new career scoring high with the performance, and he's picked up the pace over the last few weeks. In his last eight games, the seventh overall pick in the 2025 Draft is averaging 15.3 points, 5.5 boards, 5.0 assists, 1.6 threes, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks in 27.3 minutes.

The No. 7 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft saw his biggest workload since Jan. 16 in the rout, and he turned it into his best scoring effort since he dropped 21 points against the Wizards on Jan. 9. Fears has continues to make an impact on defense since shifting to the second unit, averaging 9.9 points, 2.7 boards, 2.2 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.2 threes and 0.8 blocks in 20.9 minutes over the last nine games, but with Dejounte Murray (Achilles) having begun practicing with the team Sunday, the Pelicans' backcourt could be a few weeks away from getting significantly more crowded.

Given the Pelicans' placement near the bottom of the standings, it's curious to see the team continue to dial back the rookie first-rounder's workload. This trend appears to have gone hand-in-hand with the recent return of Herbert Jones, who has since replaced Fears in the starting lineup.
