Samuelsson is on a four-game point streak -- his second of the year -- in which he's earned three goals and two assists. It's a strong run for the 25-year-old defenseman, who has gone from a potential depth defenseman to a top-four lock this year. He's at 11 points, 24 shots on net, 25 hits, 43 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating over 19 appearances, which puts him just three points shy of matching last year's production from 62 games.

Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Two-point effort in loss
Samuelsson produced a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Flames.
Both points came in the second period as the Sabres erased an early 2-0 deficit, but the game got away from the home side in the third. Samuelsson has gotten onto the scoresheet in three straight games, delivering two goals and four points, and the 2018 second-round pick is well on his way to a career-best campaign with four goals -- already tying his career high -- and 10 points in 18 contests.

Samuelsson aggravated an upper-body injury in late September and is considered week-to-week. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Thursday's Opening Night matchup against the Rangers, but it was at least encouraging to see him back on the ice for Monday's practice session, even though he practiced in a limited capacity. Samuelsson's placement on injured reserve effectively ruled the blueliner out for Saturday's matchup against the Predators, but his absence has now been confirmed by Ruff. Across his last nine appearances, the 24-year-old Samuelsson has generated one goal on 14 shots, three assists and 21 blocks while averaging 19:00 of ice time. Look for Owen Power to see an uptick in ice time while Samuelsson is on the shelf.
