Flames' Samuel Honzek: Undergoes surgery
Honzek (upper body) underwent surgery Thursday that is expected to sideline him for up to six months, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Honzek sustained an upper-body injury last weekend and landed on injured reserve. He was initially considered week-to-week, but he could be forced to miss the remainder of the regular season following his procedure. The 21-year-old made 18 appearances prior to sustaining his injury, recording two goals, two assists, 35 hits, six blocked shots and two PIM while averaging 12:21 of ice time.

Honzek suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's game against Winnipeg, and the Flames announced a day later that he's considered week-to-week. His placement on injured reserve means that he'll miss at least one week, which isn't surprising given Sunday's update. Yegor Sharangovich will likely have an opportunity to see increased playing time while Honzek is unavailable.

Honzek has 18 points over 36 games with AHL Calgary this season.
Honzek received five games of NHL action early in the season, though an injury and a lack of scoring production made it a quick return for him to a lower level. After producing 87 points over 76 appearances with WHL Vancouver across the previous two seasons, Honzek has needed an adjustment in the professional ranks. The Flames stated Thursday that Honzek was week-to-week, so this is no surprise. Honzek was selected 16th overall in the 2023 Draft and cracked the Flames' lineup Opening Night, starting out on the top line with Nazem Kadri and Andrei Kuzmenko. He failed to pick up a point in four appearances and will likely be returned to WHL Vancouver when he is healthy enough to play as Honzek needs plenty of ice time at the tender age of 19.
