Top Emmitt Finnie News

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Contributes goal in comeback win

Finnie scored a goal on two shots, added two hits and blocked two shots in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Blues.

Finnie is now on a four-game point streak (four goals, two assists). He got an unassisted goal Saturday, and it's impressive the 20-year-old rookie was able to get some offense going in a game that saw Dylan Larkin held off the scoresheet. Finnie is up to four goals, eight points, 17 shots, 25 hits and a plus-7 rating through nine contests. He probably won't keep up that pace all season, but fantasy managers should take notice, even in standard formats.

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Finds twine in Wednesday's loss

Finnie scored a goal and added two hits in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Sabres.

Finnie has now scored in back-to-back games, and he's up to three goals and six assists through seven outings to begin his NHL career. The 20-year-old was limited to 13:05 of ice time Wednesday, his lowest total since Opening Night, but he was still taking a fairly regular shift on the top line. He's also produced 13 shots on net, 23 hits, four blocked shots and a plus-7 rating, so he has some multi-category appeal for fantasy managers willing to buy into his hot start.

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Breakout performance Sunday

Finnie scored two goals on four shots, dished out an assist and added four hits in Sunday's 4-2 win over Edmonton.

After a solid start to his career through five games, Finnie made his sixth game one to remember. He scored his first career goal in the second period before assisting Dylan Larkin's second tally of the game. To wrap up his big night, Finnie scored an empty-net goal to help seal the win for Detroit. Through six games, he has two goals, three assists, 12 shots on net and 21 hits, proving he can provide good category coverage in fantasy. Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan clearly likes what he sees from the 2023 seventh-round draft pick to entrust him with a role on the top line alongside Larkin and Lucas Raymond. Finnie's ice time has also taken a big jump over the last two contests, skating over 18 minutes for the first two times of his career. While he hasn't cracked either of the Red Wings' power-play units yet, Edmonton didn't commit a penalty Sunday, making it possible that Finnie could have been involved with a man advantage. Regardless, the 20-year-old is a rising star in fantasy who is a top waiver-wire name in deep leagues and most category formats.

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Picks up first helper

Finnie registered an assist, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

It took just over a game and a half for Finnie to find the scoresheet in the NHL. The 20-year-old has come out of nowhere to claim a top-line gig with the Red Wings to begin 2025-26, just over two years after he was a seventh-round pick in 2023. Finnie has still been a bit sheltered overall, averaging 13:04 of ice time per game, and until that number goes up by a few minutes, his offense figures to be limited.

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Gets choice assignment in debut

Finnie saw time on the first line in his NHL debut, but Detroit struggled en route to a 5-1 loss to Montreal on Thursday.

Most of Finnie's shifts were shared with Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin, but the reality is more mixed than that might sound. Finnie logged just 12:22 of ice time despite his first-line role, and he wasn't used at all with the man advantage. Finnie finished the game with no points, one shot and one hit. The 20-year-old slipped to the No. 201 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, but he's risen up the ranks quickly. He took a major step forward in 2024-25 by scoring 37 goals and 84 points across 55 regular-season outings with WHL Kamloops and followed that up with another five points in 13 regular-season and playoff appearances with AHL Grand Rapids.
