  • Canadiens' Hunter McKown: Lands two-way contract

McKown signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canadiens on Monday. • Canadiens' Hunter McKown: Off to Montreal

McKown was traded to the Canadiens from the Blue Jackets on Thursday in exchange for Luke Tuch, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. McKown had nine goals and 16 assists over 63 regular-season games with AHL Cleveland in 2025-26. The center will likely spend most or all of the upcoming campaign in the AHL. He is an unsigned restricted free agent, so Montreal will need to extend McKown a qualifying offer in the coming days to retain his rights or sign him to a new deal.

  • Blue Jackets' Hunter McKown: Racks up four points in AHL loss

McKown scored a goal and added three assists in AHL Cleveland's 6-5 overtime loss to Chicago on Wednesday. This was just his second multi-point effort of the season. McKown is up to six goals, 14 points and a minus-6 rating over 37 appearances. Given his mediocre scoring so far, McKown doesn't seem likely to get an NHL look this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Hunter McKown: Pens two-way deal

McKown signed a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus on Friday. McKown hasn't appeared in an NHL game since he logged 12 outings with the Jackets back in 2022-23. Despite playing entirely in the minors last year, the 22-year-old center still managed to put together a strong campaign with 13 goals and 18 assists in 68 regular-season games for the Monsters. Given the two-way nature of his new deal, McKown should be expected to continue playing the bulk of his minutes in the minors.

  • Blue Jackets' Hunter McKown: Back in Cleveland

McKown was returned to AHL Cleveland on Saturday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. McKown was held off the scoresheet in a 7-3 loss to Pittsburgh after being recalled Friday to play in the Blue Jackets' preseason finale. McKown had nine goals and 24 points in 53 regular-season contests with AHL Cleveland in 2023-24.

  • Blue Jackets' Hunter McKown: Cut from camp

McKown was sent down to AHL Cleveland on Friday, per CapFriendly. McKown's quest for a roster spot with the Blue Jackets came up short, as their offseason additions gave them more forward depth. The 21-year-old could still earn a call-up if he starts the season well with the Monsters.
