Oilers' Isaac Howard: Doesn't score in NHL debut
Howard logged 10:43 of ice time in his first NHL debut, but he didn't record a point en route to the Oilers' 4-3 shootout loss to Calgary on Thursday.
The shootout dragged on to eight rounds, and Howard did get a chance to break the deadlock, but he wasn't able to score in the skills competition. Taken with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by Tampa Bay, Howard was acquired by Edmonton over the summer. The 21-year-old has offensive upside, which was on full display with Michigan State University last year -- 26 goals and 52 points in 37 outings -- so it'll be interesting to see if he gets a shot to play alongside Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl at some point. However, Howard is currently serving in a bottom-six capacity.

Oilers' Isaac Howard: Coming up from minors
Howard will be recalled by the Oilers ahead of Wednesday's matchup with Calgary, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.
Howard figures to step into a bottom-six role for the club, which could see Curtis Lazar relegated to a spot in the press box, while James Hamblin will likely be shipped down to the minors. Unless the 21-year-old Howard puts together an outstanding start to the season, he likely will shift between levels a couple of times this year.

Oilers' Isaac Howard: Sent down to minors
Howard was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Monday.
Howard, who was acquired by the Oilers from the Lightning in July, made it to the last round of cuts before being shipped off to the minors. While the 21-year-old winger will have to settle for starting the year with AHL Bakersfield, he should be on the short list of potential call-ups this year, and figures to make his NHL debut at some point during the 2025-26 campaign.
