Sabres' Alexandar Georgiev: Set to hit waivers
Head coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday that Georgiev will be placed on waivers, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.
Even with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) starting the year on injured reserve, Georgiev seemingly failed to impress the Sabres' brass, as the club claimed netminder Colten Ellis on Monday. Georgiev will report to AHL Rochester if he goes unclaimed on the waiver wire, and at best, he'd be the No. 4 option on the organizational depth chart.

Sabres' Alexandar Georgiev: Tending twine Thursday
Georgiev will defend the road crease during Thursday's preseason game against Detroit, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.
Georgiev will draw the start Thursday, and he's also slated to play the full game against the Red Wings. The Sabres also announced that Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will have his first full practice Thursday, and Georgiev's opportunities to begin the regular season will likely be limited if Luukkonen is healthy.

Sabres' Alexandar Georgiev: Guarding cage Monday
Georgiev will patrol the blue paint on the road versus Columbus on Monday, likely playing two periods, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports.
Georgiev will open Monday's preseason contest while Devon Levi is expected to come in for the third period. In 49 regular-season games between the Avalanche and Sharks last year, Georgiev went 15-26-4 with an .875 save percentage -- not exactly the type of numbers to instill confidence in his ability to carry a team. Still, Georgiev could see additional opportunities to start the 2025-26 campaign if Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) isn't ready to start the season.

Sabres' Alexandar Georgiev: Joins Buffalo on one-year deal
Georgiev signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with the Sabres on Thursday.
Georgiev's contract is cheap enough to make it possible to bury his cap hit in the minors if he doesn't perform well enough to make the NHL roster. He'll compete with Alex Lyon and Devon Levi for the backup role during training camp, though this signing seems to indicate the Sabres don't expect Levi to begin in the NHL this year. Georgiev had terrible numbers between Colorado and San Jose last year, with a 15-26-4 record with a 3.71 GAA and an .875 save percentage over 49 regular-season appearances.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Loses in finale
Georgiev stopped 25 of 27 shots in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the Oilers. The third goal was an empty-netter.
Georgiev went 0-3-3 with 25 goals allowed over his last six games of the season. The 29-year-old ends the year at 15-26-4 with a 3.71 GAA and an .875 save percentage. Per Max Miller of NHL.com, Georgiev has already been informed he'll be a free agent this summer, as general manager Mike Grier is not interested in re-signing the struggling goalie. Given Georgiev's statistical decline over the last two years, he may not find anything more than a backup role if he stays in the NHL, though he could opt to continue his career overseas. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting Georgiev to make a positive impact in 2025-26, regardless of where he ends up.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: First goalie off
Georgiev was the first goalie off during Wednesday's morning skate, Max Miller of NHL.com reports, indicating that he'll draw the home start against the Oilers.
Georgiev hasn't been particularly sharp in recent weeks, going 0-2-3 with a 4.92 GAA and .858 save percentage over his last five appearances, but he'll draw the start in Wednesday's regular-season finale. He made a home start against Edmonton on Nov. 30, turning aside 28 of 31 shots (.903 save percentage) en route to a loss.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Makes 35 saves in OT loss
Georgiev stopped 35 of 37 shots in Monday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Canucks.
Georgiev was beaten midway through the third period and with only 18 seconds left in overtime, so he had to settle with another OT loss -- his third one over his last four starts. Georgiev is on a five-game losing streak, going 0-2-3 with a 4.92 GAA and an .858 save percentage. It's clear he's not playing at a good-enough level to be considered as a fantasy alternative in most formats, though the Sharks have only one game left in the schedule, so it's easy to overlook Georgiev and aim for better goaltending options in that slate.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Starting in Vancouver
Georgiev will guard the road net against the Canucks on Monday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Georgiev has allowed 21 goals on 125 shots during his four-game (0-2-2) losing skid. He has a 15-25-3 record with a 3.79 GAA and an .872 save percentage over 47 appearances between San Jose and Colorado this season. Vancouver ranks 22nd in the league with 2.88 goals per game in 2024-25.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Can't handle Wild's returning stars
Georgiev stopped 36 of 44 shots in Wednesday's 8-7 overtime loss to the Wild.
Georgiev gave up a combined six goals to players returning from injury -- four to Joel Eriksson Ek and two to Kirill Kaprizov. Among the many lowlights of Georgiev's season, this was one of the worst, as he wasted the Sharks' three-goal comeback in the third period that forced overtime. He's 0-2-2 with 21 goals allowed over his last four contests, dropping to 15-25-3 on the year. Georgiev has also posted horrendous ratios with a 3.79 GAA and an .872 save percentage over 47 appearances. The Sharks' road trip continues in Edmonton on Friday, but Georgiev should not be a goalie any fantasy manager is relying on at this time of the season.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Pulled in second period
Georgiev allowed four goals on 11 shots before he was pulled in the second period of Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Kraken.
Georgiev missed one game due to an upper-body injury, and it's unclear if that played a part in his poor performance. The 29-year-old lost his third straight outing and has given up at least three goals in four consecutive games. He dropped to 15-25-2 with a 3.69 GAA and an .873 save percentage over 46 appearances this season. The Sharks' next game is at home versus the Flames.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Getting back in action
Georgiev (upper body) will start Saturday at home versus the Kraken, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Georgiev was out for Thursday's game due to an upper-body injury, but it ended up being a short-term issue. He is 3-3-1 with a 3.56 GAA and an .879 save percentage over his last seven games. His only appearance against the Kraken this season was Jan. 30, a relief outing in which he saved 20 of 22 shots.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Out with upper-body issue
Georgiev will miss out against the Oilers on Thursday due to an upper-body injury, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Since Georgiev will be on the shelf, the team will deploy Georgi Romanov in the pipes Thursday while recently recalled Gabriel Carriere will serve as the No. 2 option. In his 27 outings with San Jose this year, the 29-year-old Georgiev is 7-17-2 with a 3.80 GAA and .876 save percentage. The backstop will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and may have to find a new place to play following his underwhelming stint with the club.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Loses in shootout
Georgiev stopped 34 of 37 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Ducks.
The Sharks rallied from two goals down in the third period to force overtime. Georgiev did well after an ugly first period, but Mason McTavish finally broke through in the shootout to send the San Jose netminder to his sixth loss in nine outings. Georgiev is down to 15-24-2 with a 3.64 GAA and an .876 save percentage over 45 appearances this season. The Sharks return home to face the Oilers on Thursday -- as usual, Georgiev is a goalie best avoided in fantasy, especially in a matchup as tough as that one.

Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Guarding cage against Ducks
Georgiev will patrol the crease for Tuesday's road clash versus Anaheim, Derek Lee of The Hockey News reports.
Georgiev gave up 11 goals on 68 shots (.838 save percentage) in his last two outings. He'll face a Ducks squad that is generating just 2.71 goals per game this year, a significantly easier matchup compared to his last two opponents, the Maple Leafs and the Rangers.
