Top William Eklund News

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Suiting up in State of Hockey

Eklund (lower body) will return to the lineup in Minnesota on Tuesday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Prior to missing four straight contests, Eklund was in a groove offensively, earning four goals and nine points over a six-game stretch. The 23-year-old winger might replace Collin Graf on the second line Tuesday, and Eklund will likely receive time with the man advantage as well.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Traveling with team

Eklund (lower body) will make the trip to Minnesota for Tuesday's matchup, with his game status to be determined after the morning skate, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

Eklund is effectively a game-time call heading into Tuesday, though he will need to be activated off injured reserve before he can suit up. That final step should give fantasy managers the information they need to put Eklund into their lineups. If the young winger does play, it will likely be in a second-line role, which could see Collin Graf dropped to the bottom-six or relegated to the press box.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Moved to injured reserve

Eklund (lower body) was designated for injured reserve Friday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

According to Pashelka, this move rules Eklund out versus Florida on Saturday, but the winger should be eligible to come off IR any time after that. In a corresponding move, the team activated Ryan Reaves (lower body), though it is Collin Graf who figures to move into a top-six role for Friday's matchup with Winnipeg.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Skates Thursday

Eklund (lower body) skated Thursday and will be re-evaluated ahead of Friday's game against Winnipeg, according to Max Miller of NHL.com.

Eklund has missed the last two games with the injury. He has five goals, six assists, 10 blocked shots, eight hits and 31 shots on goal over 12 contests in 2025-26. Should Eklund play Friday, look for him to replace Adam Gaudette on the second line.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Unavailable for Wednesday

Eklund (lower body) won't play against Seattle on Wednesday, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.

Eklund remains day-to-day and will miss his second straight game. He has generated five goals, 11 points, 31 shots on net, 10 blocked shots and eight hits across 12 appearances this season. Adam Gaudette (upper body) participated in Tuesday's practice and could replace Eklund in the top six versus the Kraken on Wednesday.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Won't play Sunday

Eklund has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Red Wings due to a lower-body injury, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

Eklund has had a solid start to the season, recording five goals, 11 points, 10 blocked shots, eight hits and two PIM while averaging 19:50 of ice time. He'll be sidelined for the first time this season, but his injury isn't believed to be a long-term concern. Eklund should tentatively be considered day-to-day, while his next chance to suit up will be Wednesday in Seattle.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Scores early in win

Eklund scored a goal on two shots, blocked three shots, added two PIM and went plus-2 in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Devils.

Eklund's point streak is up to five games (four goals, five assists) after his tally just 42 seconds into this contest. The 23-year-old's eruption on offense shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as he's logging massive minutes in a top-six role with ice time in all situations. Eklund is up to five goals, 11 points, 31 shots on net, 10 blocked shots, eight hits and a minus-5 rating over 11 appearances this season. Scoop him up in fantasy now -- he won't linger on the waiver wire much longer.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Three-point effort Sunday

Eklund had two goals, including one on the power play, and a power-play assist in Sunday's 6-5 overtime win over the Wild.

Eklund bagged two or more goals in a single game for the first time this season, but this three-point performance also allowed him to extend his prolific point streak to three contests. The 23-year-old winger has three goals, four assists, 11 shots, two hits and three blocked shots over that three-game span.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Nets PP goal Friday

Eklund scored a power-play goal in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Devils.

Eklund found the twine at the 2:25 mark of the first period with a snap shot following a set-up from Macklin Celebrini, but that would be all the offense the Sharks would muster throughout the game. Eklund endured a slow start to the season but seems to be turning things around and has recorded four points (one goal, three assists), seven shots and a minus-2 rating over his last two games.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Three helpers in OT win

Eklund picked up three assists, one on the power play, in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.

The 23-year-old saw plenty of shifts alongside Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, and the trio combined for five goals and 12 points in a wild win at MSG. It was Eklund's first multi-point performance of the season, but there will be plenty more coming if he keeps that line assignment. Through seven games, Eklund has put together one goal and five points with 19 shots on net, seven blocked shots and six hits, but he also has a rough minus-8 rating.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Nets lone goal in loss

Eklund scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes.

Eklund tied the game at 1-1 with his second-period tally, though the Hurricanes would regain their lead before the end of the frame. For the season, Eklund has two points, six shots on net and a minus-4 rating over three appearances. He's firmly in a top-six role with power-play time, so the 23-year-old should have a good chance of matching last year's 58-point performance.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Participating in team scrimamge

Eklund (wrist) took part in the Sharks' scrimmage Thursday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

If Eklund was dealing with any lingering effects of his wrist injury, the Sharks would undoubtedly withhold him from taking part in the scrimmage portion of Thursday's camp session. Of note, the 22-year-old winger found himself skating on a line with rookie Michael Misa, instead of Macklin Celebrini, which could be a sign the team is going to spread its youngsters throughout all three lines heading into Opening Night.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Skating with teammates

Eklund (wrist) was on the ice for Monday's informal skate, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Eklund continues to work his way back from offseason wrist surgery, with Peng noting that the 22-year-old winger didn't appear to be limited at the informal skate. While fantasy players likely want to continue monitoring the situation, all signs seem to be pointing at Eklund being good to go for Opening Night against the Golden Knights on Oct. 9. Barring any setbacks, Eklund figures to slot into a first-line role alongside Macklin Celebrini.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Inks extension with San Jose

Eklund (wrist) signed a three-year, $16.8 million contract extension with the Sharks on Tuesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Eklund's new deal will begin in 2026-27. There hasn't been a substantial update on the status of Eklund's recovery from wrist surgery after the young forward was cut by a skate in a tune-up game at the 2025 IIHF World Championship in May. However, it was noted at the time that he is expected to be ready for training camp in the fall, and he's facing a three-month recovery period. When healthy, the 22-year-old Swede will fill a top-six role in addition to seeing time with the man advantage, and he's certainly a name to keep in mind for upcoming fantasy drafts, considering his offensive output has increased in each of the last two seasons.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Undergoes surgery on wrist

Eklund underwent successful wrist surgery Monday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

After a scary incident Saturday in which his wrist was cut by a skate in an exhibition contest ahead of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Eklund will now be on the road to recovery. The 2021 first-round pick is set to miss the international tournament with Team Sweden, but he is expected to be ready for training camp in 2025-26. Peng noted that Eklund's recovery timeline is roughly three months. The 22-year-old Eklund took a step forward in his second full season with the Sharks, earning 17 goals and 58 points over 77 appearances. The left-shot winger's plus-minus rating also improved from minus-45 in 2023-24 to minus-7 in 2024-25, which highlights his progression on both ends of the ice.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Cut by skate in Czechia

Eklund is in stable condition after his wrist was cut by Filip Hronek's skate during a tune-up game Saturday ahead of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey News reports.

Eklund's agent, Todd Diamond, does not believe the skate "cut key tendons or nerves at the moment." The 22-year-old Eklund was taken to a local hospital after the incident in Brno, Czechia and posted on his Instagram account that "everything is fine." The World Championship begins May 9, and Eklund's hometown of Stockholm, Sweden, is co-hosting the tournament. The opportunity to represent Sweden at home would doubtlessly be memorable for the 22-year-old forward, but after that scary incident, the focus is squarely on his health and recovery.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Assist streak at three games

Eklund logged an assist in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Flames.

Eklund deflected a Tyler Toffoli shot, and Jan Rutta cleaned up the loose change at 4:20 of the second period. This was Eklund's third straight game with a helper, though he's now gone nine contests without a goal. The winger is up to 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists), 147 shots on net, 54 hits and a minus-5 rating across 75 appearances.
