  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Unavailable Saturday

Askarov (upper body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's road matchup against Columbus, per Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers. Askarov is day-to-day and will miss at least one game after getting hurt in Thursday's 2-1 overtime loss to St. Louis. Alex Nedeljkovic will start against the Blue Jackets on Saturday, and Laurent Brossoit will serve as the backup.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Exits Thursday's game

Askarov won't return to Thursday's game versus the Blues after sustaining an apparent upper-body injury. Askarov seemed to indicate an issue with his neck after getting run into in his crease during the second period. He stopped all 11 shots he faced prior to his exit, and Alex Nedeljkovic replaced him between the pipes. Askarov was making his return from a lower-body injury that cost him seven contests. If he is forced to miss more time, Laurent Brossoit is likely to be recalled from AHL San Jose to fill the backup role. The Sharks visit the Blue Jackets on Saturday.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine Thursday

Askarov will patrol the crease on the road versus the Blues on Thursday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Askarov last featured for the Sharks back on March 10 versus the Sabres, a stretch of seven games on the shelf due to his lower-body injury. Prior to getting hurt, the netminder had allowed at least three goals in 22 of his last 24 outings, posting a 10-11-2 record and 4.01 GAA. With the amount of offensive support the Sharks can offer these days -- 3.03 goals per game -- Askarov doesn't need to be perfect but will need to be better to get them into the playoffs in the future.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Still unavailable

Askarov (lower body) isn't expected to be an option for Saturday's home game against Philadelphia, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News. Askarov remains day-to-day and will miss his sixth straight game. It is still unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. He has earned a 19-17-3 record this season with a 3.56 GAA and an .886 save percentage through 40 appearances.

He's 19-17-3 with a 3.56 GAA and an .886 save percentage in 40 outings in 2025-26. Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to get the home start against Buffalo, while Laurent Brossoit is set to serve as the understudy.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Can't stop herd of buffalo

Askarov made 20 saves in a 6-3 loss to the Sabres on Tuesday. He allowed five goals. Honestly, there are few teams that have been able to stop the Buffalo herd, and the Sharks were outmatched at times. San Jose is one point behind the Seattle Kraken for the second wild-card spot in the West. Since Feb. 2, Askarov is 2-4-1 with 26 goals allowed (.869 save percentage). Overall, he continues to develop, putting up a 19-17-3 record with a 3.56 GAA and .886 save percentage.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Facing Islanders

Askarov will guard the home goal versus the Islanders on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Askarov will get the second half of a back-to-back after Alex Nedeljkovic was in goal for Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Blues. The Sharks have started to alternate goalies, with this being Askarov's third start in the last five games, though that may be influenced by a pair of back-to-back sets. The Islanders have lost their last two games, scoring a total of four goals.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Set to face Montreal

Askarov was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, according to Max Miller of NHL.com, indicating he will patrol the home crease against the Canadiens on Tuesday. Askarov is coming off a 20-save effort in Saturday's 5-4 win over Edmonton. He has gone 18-16-2 this campaign with a 3.53 GAA and an .887 save percentage across 37 appearances. Montreal sits fourth in the league with 3.49 goals per game this season.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Hangs on for win Saturday

Askarov made 20 saves in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Oilers. It wasn't pretty, but Askarov did just enough to secure his 18th win of the season, and first since Jan. 27, after the Sharks had taken a 3-1 lead in the first period. The 23-year-old netminder needs all the offensive support he can get right now -- Askarov has allowed at least three goals in 20 of 21 outings since the beginning of December, going 9-10-1 with a rough 4.02 GAA and .868 save percentage.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Takes another loss

Askarov stopped 25 of 28 shots in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Flames. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Askarov took his third straight regulation loss, a span in which he's allowed 10 goals on 79 shots. The 23-year-old has been skidding for much of 2026, holding an opponent under three goals just once in 10 appearances since the start of the new year. For the season, Askarov has a 17-16-2 record with a 3.52 GAA and an .888 save percentage in 36 starts. It would take a lot for the Sharks to mount a playoff push, so Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic may share the crease down the stretch. Both goalies should start this weekend, as the Sharks host the Oilers on Saturday and the Jets on Sunday.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Struggles continue Wednesday

Askarov stopped 38 of 41 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Avalanche. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Askarov continues to struggle when called upon, but to be fair, the Avalanche have one of the top offenses in the league. The 23-year-old enters the Olympic break on a sour note since he's gone 2-5-1 with a 4.09 GAA and a subpar .858 save percentage in his last nine appearances.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Lets lead slip away

Askarov allowed four goals on 32 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Oilers. Askarov was spotted a 3-0 lead in the first period, but things unraveled for the netminder in the third. The Oilers tied the game, scoring twice with an extra attacker in the last 3:05 of regulation before Zach Hyman completed Edmonton's comeback at 1:06 of overtime. Askarov has had a few rough outings in recent weeks, but this was a tough way to lose, especially since he was making consecutive starts for the first time since a run of six straight games between Dec. 20 and Jan. 3. The 23-year-old netminder is now 17-13-2 with a 3.47 GAA and an .889 save percentage over 33 starts. It wouldn't be surprising to see Alex Nedeljkovic get the nod Saturday in Calgary.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Patrolling crease versus Oilers

Askarov will be in goal on the road versus Edmonton on Thursday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports. Askarov will be making consecutive appearances in the crease for the first time since early January. In his last five outings, the 23-year-old backstop has posted a 2-3-0 record and 3.43 GAA. The move to break from an alternating rotation is a bit surprising, considering Alex Nedeljkovic is riding a five-game winning streak.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Third straight loss

Askarov made 16 saves in a 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday. The Sharks were solid in the first period, but they slipped in the second and the wheels came off in the third. Askarov is talented, but goalies cannot do things on their own. The southpaw has lost three straight games. Overall, Askarov is 16-13-1 with a 3.51 GAA and an .890 save percentage.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Falls to Wings

Askarov turned aside 21 of 24 shots in Friday's 4-2 loss to Detroit, with the Red Wings' final goal getting scored into an empty net. The Sharks actually grabbed a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but Askarov couldn't make it stick. The 23-year-old netminder hasn't allowed fewer than three goals in a start since late November, and over his last 14 outings, he's gone 7-6-0 with a rough 4.27 GAA and .866 save percentage.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine in Detroit

Askarov will defend the road crease against Detroit on Friday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic have alternated starts over the past week and a half, and that trend will continue in Friday's matchup. Askarov struggled during his home start against the Golden Knights on Sunday, allowing six goals on 31 shots (.806 save percentage) in a 7-2 loss.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Struggles in loss

Askarov stopped 26 of 32 shots in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Golden Knights, who also had one empty-netter. Askarov and the Sharks were down only 2-1 after one period, but the Golden Knights scored three times in the second to take over the game. While he hasn't been very good lately, Askarov has rarely been this bad between the pipes all year aside from the first few weeks. He's down to a 16-11-1 record with a 3.54 GAA and an .890 save percentage through 29 appearances. The Sharks are off until Thursday, when they start a back-to-back against the Capitals before continuing the road trip Friday in Detroit. Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic are likely to split those starts and the two after that (Jan. 19 versus the Panthers and Jan. 20 versus the Lightning) to deal with the four-game road trip.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Taking on Golden Knights

Askarov will be the starting goaltender Sunday against the Golden Knights, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Since his torrid month of November, Askarov has allowed at least three goals in 12 straight starts. As a result, his numbers have taken a bit of a dip. The 23-year-old is 16-10-1 on the season with a 3.44 GAA and an .893 save percentage. The Golden Knights enter Sunday having won three straight games, scoring at least four goals in each contest.
