Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Nabs second win
Askarov made 37 saves in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Avalanche.
Martin Necas slipped the puck past Askarov just 30 seconds into the game. However, the 23-year-old netminder kept his composure and technically didn't let another shot beat him on the afternoon -- a goal was awarded to Nathan MacKinnon in the second period after the net behind Askarov was knocked off its pegs. The win was Askarov's second of the season, with both coming in his last three starts. Through seven outings, he sports a 4.15 GAA and an .867 save percentage to go with his 2-4-1 record.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Slated starter Saturday
Askarov is expected to start at home against Colorado on Saturday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
Askarov has a 1-4-1 record, 4.69 GAA and .844 save percentage in six outings this year. The 23-year-old has surrendered four or more goals in five of his six appearances. Colorado is 7-1-4 and ranks second in goals per game with 3.75, so this is a very tough assignment for the young goaltender.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Not sharp enough Tuesday
Askarov allowed four goals on 14 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Kings.
The Sharks dominated possession, but Askarov wasn't good enough on the few chances the Kings accumulated. The four goals didn't even come from the Kings' best players. It was a pair of fourth-liners and two defensemen who carried the offense. Askarov continues to offer subpar goaltending, though this is part of the growing pains as the Sharks attempt to become more competitive. He is 1-4-1 with a 4.69 GAA and an .844 save percentage this season. The Sharks host the Devils on Thursday.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Leaves ice first
Askarov was the first goalie off Tuesday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home versus the Kings.
Askarov will make his third straight appearance between the pipes for the Sharks after having split the opening seven games with Alex Nedeljkovic. With a 1-3-1 record and a 4.80 GAA, it's a little surprising Askarov is continuing to get a heavier workload. A back-to-back versus the Avs and Wings on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, should give both netminders some work in the coming days.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Earns win despite subpar showing
Askarov stopped 28 of 33 shots in Sunday's 6-5 overtime win over the Wild.
Askarov allowed five or more goals for the third time across five starts this season. The 23-year-old netminder, who started consecutive games for the first time Friday and Sunday, might return to the bench ahead of Tuesday's game against the Kings since the Sharks have been rotating netminders regularly so far this season. Askarov hasn't inspired a ton of confidence between the pipes, either -- he's gone 1-3-1 with a 4.80 GAA and an .855 save percentage in his five starts so far.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Starting Sunday in Minny
Askarov will start Sunday's game against the Wild, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Askarov will start consecutive games for the first time this season after participating in a true 50-50 split with Alex Nedeljkovic to begin the season. The 23-year-old is coming off of a strong performance against the red-hot Devils, stopping 26 of 28 shots in Friday's 3-1 loss. He will face a Wild team that's struggling offensively this season, particularly at even strength. Minnesota has just 10 goals at 5-on-5 this season, tied for the fewest in the league.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Gives up two goals
Askarov stopped 26 of 28 shots in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Devils. The third goal was an empty-netter with 47 seconds left in the game.
Askarov allowed two power-play goals to New Jersey defenseman Dougie Hamilton, but turned in a valiant effort in Friday's defeat. By the time the Devils added a third goal, the 23-year-old netminder was already on the bench with the Sharks pushing for a late equalizer. The Sharks have been rotating goalies this season, and Askarov hasn't been a very reliable option. In four starts, he's gone 0-3-1 with a 4.81 GAA and a poor .857 save percentage.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine Friday
Askarov will patrol the visiting crease in New Jersey on Friday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Askarov needs a good performance as he has allowed 17 goals on 105 shots (.838 save percentage) across three starts this year. The 23-year-old came into the season as the Sharks' No. 1 goaltender, but another poor outing could get him sent to AHL San Jose. Askarov will face the Devils, who are tied for second in NHL scoring, averaging 4.00 goals.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Winless through three starts
Askarov stopped 23 of 27 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Islanders.
Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic have been splitting the workload for the Sharks to start the season, but the former's results haven't been good. Aside from the fact that he's lost in his three starts for a winless Sharks team, the main issue is that Asrakov has given up at least four goals each time. Through his three appearances, he's stopped only 88 of the 105 shots he's faced -- good for a ballooned 5.73 GAA and a poor .838 save percentage. Fantasy managers shouldn't consider starting Askarov in most formats given his early-season struggles.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine Tuesday
Askarov will be between the pipes on the road against the Islanders on Tuesday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic have been splitting the workload for the Sharks to start the season and it seems that trend will continue. In his two outings this year, the 23-year-old Askarov remains winless, going 0-1-1 with a 6.45 GAA and .833 save percentage. Given the young team around him and the timeshare in the crease, Askarov could struggle to put up wins this year, making him a poor fantasy option in redraft formats.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Surrenders six goals in loss
Askarov stopped 28 of 34 shots in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Mammoth.
Askarov's 2025-26 is off to an unimpressive start with 13 goals allowed on 78 shots over two games. That shot volume against is a big problem, but one that's not likely to get better in the near term with the Sharks battling multiple injuries on the blue line. The 23-year-old has alternated starts with Alex Nedeljkovic, a pattern that's likely to continue until one goalie gets in a groove. Look for Nedeljkovic to get the nod versus his former team, the Penguins, at home Saturday.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Facing Mammoth
Askarov will patrol the visiting crease in Utah on Friday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Askarov had a tough go of it in his season debut Saturday against Anaheim, allowing seven goals on 43 shots in an overtime loss. Askarov is highly regarded -- he was selected 11th overall by Nashville in 2020 -- and will get a chance to redeem himself against the Mammoth, who are averaging only 2.00 goals per game, 30th in the NHL.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Rough outing Saturday
Askarov stopped 36 of 43 shots in Saturday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Ducks.
Askarov didn't exactly impress in his first start of the season, squandering two separate multi-goal leads before giving up a goal to Leo Carlsson in overtime to complete the collapse. It's a start like this that shows why the Sharks seem intent on splitting time between Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic early in the campaign. The 23-year-old Askarov is the goalie of the future, and he'll get his chances in 2025-26, but fantasy managers may want to see him as more of a streaming option when he gets a favorable matchup. The Sharks' next game is a tough one at home versus the Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Between pipes against Ducks
Askarov will guard the cage in Saturday's home clash versus Anaheim, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Askarov watched from the bench during the Sharks' Opening Night clash with the Golden Knights on Thursday. Heading into the 2025-26 campaign, the 23-year-old backstop was expected to be the No. 1 option ahead of Alex Nedeljkovic, but it seems perhaps the team is going to more evenly split the workload this year.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine Saturday
Askarov will patrol the visiting crease in Utah on Saturday, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
Askarov will probably start Opening Night versus Vegas on Thursday. He has been considered the Sharks' goaltender of the future since being acquired from Nashville in August of 2024. During the 2024-25 regular season, Askarov was 4-6-2 with a 3.10 GAA and an .896 save percentage across 13 appearances with the Sharks in 2024-25. He was superb at the AHL level last year, posting an 11-9-1 mark with a 2.45 GAA and a .923 save percentage in 22 regular-season games.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Exits ice first Friday
Askarov was the first goalie to leave the ice Friday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports, indicating he'll patrol the crease on the road against Vegas.
With Askarov taking the start Friday, it seems likely that Alex Nedeljkovic will get the nod for Saturday's clash with Utah before Askarov takes the crease for Opening Night against Vegas at home Thursday. Looking ahead to the rest of the 2025-26 campaign, Askarov figures to see the bulk of the workload for San Jose, though Nedeljkovic could certainly see plenty of starts as well.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Set to start Wednesday
Askarov is expected to guard the home goal against San Jose on Wednesday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
Askarov had a 2.45 GAA and a .923 save percentage in 22 regular-season appearances with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. He also posted a 3.10 GAA and an .896 in 13 outings with the Sharks. Askarov is set to open this season as the Sharks' No. 1 goaltender.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Starting Friday
Askarov will patrol the home crease versus Vegas on Friday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Askarov is considered the Sharks' goaltender of the future, and that should begin this season, as he has been penciled in as the No. 1 starter. Askarov played in 13 NHL games in 2024-25, posting a 4-6-2 record to go with a 3.10 GAA and an .896 save percentage. Look for Askarov to play in 45-50 contests in 2025-26.
