Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Hangs on for OT win
Askarov turned aside 38 shots in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over the Penguins.
The Penguins dominated the second period and took a 5-1 lead on an Anthony Mantha power-play tally early in the third, but Askarov stood on his head down the stretch as the Sharks mounted the biggest late comeback in franchise history. The 23-year-old netminder had ceded the prior three starts to Alex Nedeljkovic due to an illness, but Askarov seems ready to resume No. 1 duties in the San Jose crease. On the season, he's gone 11-8-1 in 20 outings with a 3.19 GAA and a .902 save percentage.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Pulled before first intermission
Askarov gave up four goals on 12 shots before he was replaced by Alex Nedeljkovic in the first period of Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Capitals.
It's the second time in four outings that Askarov has received an early hook. Brandon Duhaime's shorthanded tally was the final goal Askarov gave up in Wednesday's outing. He still ended up with the loss, falling to 10-7-1 with a 3.15 GAA and a .905 save percentage through 18 starts this season. After looking nearly invincible in early November, the 23-year-old netminder might be safer to use in favorable matchups in fantasy. He'll be a risky option if he gets the start Friday in Dallas as the Sharks begin a five-game road trip.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Getting Sunday's start
Askarov will be in net for Sunday's game against the Bruins, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Askarov has been on a November heater for the Sharks, putting up video game numbers. In seven starts this month, the 23-year-old is 6-1-0 with a 1.54 GAA and a .957 save percentage. He'll look to build on those impressive stats Sunday against the Bruins, who have been held to three goals or fewer in five consecutive games.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Stellar in win over Bruins
Askarov stopped 34 of 35 shots in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Bruins.
Askarov was kept busy, but he allowed just a Morgan Geekie goal in the middle of the third period. This was Askarov's seventh win in eight outings this month, and it's the fifth time he's allowed exactly one goal during November. The 23-year-old is up to 8-5-1 with a 2.83 GAA and a .913 save percentage through 14 starts. That's already a career-high workload in an NHL season, and it's clear the Sharks' No. 1 job between the pipes will be Askarov's at least until he hits a slump. Fantasy managers may still be wary of his next matchup, as the Sharks are visiting the Avalanche on Wednesday. Askarov defeated Colorado in overtime on Nov. 1 by stopping 36 of 38 shots, though that game was in San Jose.

The 23-year-old netminder improved to 7-5-1 with a 2.97 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 13 appearances. The Sharks' next two games are at home in a back-to-back set versus the Senators on Saturday and the Bruins on Sunday. Expect Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic to split those starts.

Askarov has been hard to beat of late, going 5-1-0 with a 1.31 GAA in his last six contests. With the 23-year-old netminder on top of his game, he figures to see plenty of work ahead of Alex Nedeljkovic. Through just 12 outings, Askarov has already set a new personal best with six wins and should be capable of challenging for the 20-win threshold at least.

The 23-year-old is at 6-5-1 with a 2.99 GAA and a .907 save percentage through 12 starts. The Sharks will get a firm test in their next game, which is at home versus the Kings on Thursday.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Scheduled to face Utah
Askarov was the first netminder off at morning skate, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports, which indicates he'll guard the home cage Tuesday versus the Mammoth.
Askarov has been tremendous lately after a slow start to the campaign, but his four-game winning streak was snapped during his last start in Calgary on Thursday. Still, he stopped 34 of 35 shots in that game but didn't receive any offensive support in a 2-0 loss. To put things in perspective, the 2020 first-round pick has a 1.19 GAA and an otherworldly .965 save percentage across his last five outings, so he'll look to get back in the win column Tuesday after receiving the night off Saturday in Seattle. The Mammoth are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks on Monday, so the Sharks have the clear rest advantage.
