Harkins' move to IR is simply a formality, as he is expected to be out until late November at a minimum. Once healthy, he should be able to enter the mix for a fourth-line spot, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him get waived or end up as a healthy scratch.

Harkins (upper body) is expected to be re-evaluated Wednesday night to get another opinion on his injury, per Zach Cavanagh of The Sporting Tribune.

Ducks' Jansen Harkins: Could have serious injury
Harkins exited Sunday's preseason outing versus the Kings because of an upper-body injury, and head coach Joel Quenneville said after the game that he isn't optimistic about the forward's status, according to Derek Lee of The Hockey News.
Harkins might be set to miss substantial time going forward, as he was spotted leaving the arena with his right arm in a sling, per Lee. Quenneville said the club will know more about Harkins' injury Monday. The 28-year-old registered two goals, six points and 136 hits over 62 appearances in his first season with the Ducks in 2024-25.

Ducks' Jansen Harkins: Drought continues Wednesday
Harkins' point drought is up to 23 games after he was held scoreless in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flames.
Harkins has gotten a fair amount of time on the fourth line even late in the season. He was scratched versus the Oilers on Monday, but that was just his second trip to the press box since the start of March -- Brett Leason and Nikita Nesterenko have been scratched more frequently of late. However, Harkins is stuck on six points through 59 outings this season while adding 48 shots on net, 131 hits and a minus-13 rating. He'll likely end 2024-25 in a part-time role.

Harkins' point drought reached nine games in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Blues.
While Harkins isn't scoring, he's been in the lineup for six straight contests after being scratched four times in February. The 27-year-old is holding onto a fourth-line role over Ross Johnston for now, though Harkins is likely to face more pressure for ice time once Robby Fabbri (upper body) returns. Harkins has just six points with 34 shots on net, 102 hits, 16 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 45 appearances this season. Harkins scored a goal, dished an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Predators.
Harkins had to settle for the secondary helper on Pavel Mintyukov's opening tally after creating some chaos in front of the net. Harkins was later rewarded with a goal of his own midway through the second period, which stood as the game-winner. The 27-year-old forward doesn't typically earn many points -- this was his first multi-point effort since May 1, 2022. In 2024-25, the fourth-line forward has six points, 29 shots on net, 85 hits and a minus-6 rating over 36 outings.

Harkins scored a goal while recording two shots, three hits and two blocked shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Hurricanes.
Harkins found the twine for the first time in the 2024-25 campaign. It was also the first time he cracked the scoresheet since Dec. 22, when he delivered an assist in a 5-4 shootout win over Utah. He has four points in 30 games, though, so he's not much of a fantasy asset in most formats outside of leagues that reward physicality (77 hits, 22 blocked shots).

Harkins has just two helpers to go with 26 hits and eight PIM over 10 games in December, but it's encouraging he's been a steady part of the lineup. He's been a fixture on the fourth line in that time and has little chance of being promoted to a more scoring-friendly spot. The 27-year-old has three assists, 52 hits, 14 blocked shots, 12 PIM and 11 shots on net through 19 outings overall.

Harkins has been in the lineup steadily since mid-November, but he's in a fourth-line role on a low-scoring team. The 27-year-old has collected two assists 10 PIM, 36 hits and six shots on net through 13 appearances. Harkins will likely stay in the lineup at least until Leo Carlsson (upper body) can return. Since Harkins has crossed the 10-game mark since his last pass through waivers, he would need to be waived again to be sent back to AHL San Diego.
